For temps below 40 yeah it’s pretty good.
I came from a second gen Tacoma with the 4.0 that I had for 5 years.
I’ll take the power, cabin room and comfort of the Tundra over the Taco any day, the Tundra is also really capable off road but you can feel the size of the Tundra on the trail, so I’ll take the taco over the 3rd Gen Tundra on the trail (personal opinion so far)

My first Toyota truck was a '94 v6 4x4 (pre-Tacoma). The dealer sticker said 13 city. I didn't believe it; it's a Toy, its gotta do better than that. Well, it got about 13 city and about 17~18 highway, as long as I wasn't in the Los Angeles area. With all the traffic, 'highway' was like 13 and city was 11 provided I didn't turn the AC on. My 2002 Tundra got about the same, maybe 1mpg less on the open highway, and I was good with it because, hey, does it look like a Toyota Starlet? People complain about the crappy mileage, but I'm really used to it now after decades with Toyota trucks. That being said, I actually got 20.7 going from Lancaster CA (High Desert), to Woodland Hills (about 70 miles) on the open highway in my new 2019 Limited 4x4. There was a bit of downhill  but hey I never got that on my last Tundra. Think I am also still babying it because it's 32 days old LOL so I wasn't punching the gas. There are reasons for choosing a truck, and gas mileage isn't one of them.

I don't drive crazy but I don't mind opening her up either.
I do use the remote start a lot. Stupid winter.

    It gets 15+ consistently when I go 75-80 .

Sorry for off topic but what app is that Kevin? Seems a few of us here use that one. Thank you in advance.

The whole 14 is downhill! your real MPG would be the AVG after you drove back up. Ive gotten 45-50 mpg in other cars driving down

I was getting 14.5 mixed but now its about 13.5 mixed after my 3/1.5 lift.

I reset once since new. Bought in July, 1600 miles, think I'm on my 4th tank of gas. I'll reset every gas purchase and see whats going on. What baffles me is that my 2008 at the time I sold it 6 months ago was getting better mileage than essentially the same truck which isn't a decade old? Both stock 5.7 DC's

Sounds like you do a lot of small runs and not a lot of freeway. The idle time will kill your read out display too, so keep that in mind. Stop and go isn’t another burner for high fuel mileage. 1600 is still really new too. Try and be patient and see if things improve as you put more miles on your engine.

Cold morning starts with idle time will cause this. Don't pay attention to your tank average! Look at your trip average after you cut your ignition off, but before you open your drivers door. That will be your true MPG.

But, the old school way of doing simple math with your fill up vs your miles driven is the exact MPG.

I bought a barely used Tacoma and kept it for 3 months before trading for a new Tundra. You will love the space! I average about 15.2 mpg.

This is where remote starters cost money to use. I've been using mine a lot lately and my current tank average is 12.1. But my trip mileages have been well over 13 since I upped my stock 20" stock tire air up to 36 psi. I don't think that's bad considering that my work commute is 13 miles and takes 35-40 minutes each way. Not exactly stop and go but not high speed either. I need to take a road trip to see what that comes out to.

I had a 2006 Tacoma, eventually putting a Icon lift and bigger wheels tires on it. It was amazing offroad! I just "upgraded" to a 19 Tundra with the CrewMax. Love it! So far I'm averaging around 14-15 mpg, city with occasional highway driving. Only 300 miles on it so I'm still on the first tank of gas, thanks o the 38 gal fuel tank. I also had a 2011 4Runner that I loved, but ultimately, lost in a divorce :censored:. Have you considered a 4Runner? You can spice them up to be a pretty capable offroad machine. We used to take it on long road trips and I could get 20 mpg, @ around 70 mph. Just a thought.

Suspension for sure. If you're offroading I would stay away from spacer kits for front lift. At minimum Bilstien 5100 shocks, set on the upper settings. Best bet would be a coilover setup with shackles or add-a-leaf in the rear. @Toytec Lifts has some options that are a little bit more budget friendly than doing something like Icon or King.

LOL I know I know. Was nice to see though after a week of 12mpg average on the freeway going to work. 101 east from Woodland hills to 405 south to UCLA and back may not be very far but it's well over an hour to go 17 miles. I'm glad Garcetti fixed the traffic problem, he's a legend in his own mind. I can't wait for some time off to get to the Mojave desert and blast some fruit and drive some trails.

Everything stock. I drive the speed limit always. Cruise control. I have never been interested in "gunning" my vehicles, taking off fast, or racing. I just drive. No secret, really.
