    I have a 2018 Tundra 4x4 and there are no zerks on the propeller (drive) shafts, so they are sealed and cannot be greased. Just crawled under mine with grease gun in hand and couldn't find any. Found another thread in this forum confirming 2019s are also sealed.

    Anyone know what the propeller bolt torque specs are for 2018 Tundra 4x4?

    Not sure at this point.
    Truck is currently at 15k and is about to get an oil change at the stealership, should I also be greasing the propeller shafts for a 2021? Going to be checking all the filters as well and see if there are anything that needs to be replaced.

    My 2018 did not have an zerk fittings. So I do not think your 2021 may unless toyota went backwards for some reason..lol.

    But this is an assumption. Just crawl under and check the propeller shafts and look for zerk fittings. If you dont have them, you cant grease them.

    Guys quick opinion..

    I just starting using amsoil and amsoil filters
    I change the oil every 5k miles but the filter says it’s good for 15,000 miles.

    I know we are suppose to do lube and filter together but do you guys think it’s ok to change the filter every other change? So it’d be every 10k miles on the filter E6E4E25F-CBA2-47AA-A8F0-34F8B6E5A963.jpg

    I personally would do them both at 5k. Cheap insurance for an expensive engine. Just my opinion of course. ;)

    The shield is definitely a PITA to remove, but it gives you time to lay on your back with a cold one and inspect that beautiful powertrain for any other problems that may arise in the future. :cheers:

    I don’t see a problem. It is no different than going 10k miles on an oil change and lots of people do that all the time. The nice thing with the Toyota design is you can drain the oil from the filter but leave the filter installed.

    About the missing zerks & propeller shaft maintenance on the newer models...

    From the Maintenance Manual:

    Propeller Shaft
    Lubricate the propeller shaft spiders and slide yokes with lithium-base chassis grease and the double cardan joint with molybdenum-disulfide lithium-base chassis grease, and re-torque the bolt. Only a qualified technician should perform this operation

    I had interpreted the manual as saying, just rub grease onto those exposed areas of the shaft??
    It doesn't seem logical at all, though.
    I also forgot to ask the service team about it when I went in last week to have this service done.

    For those with RCI engine/transfer plate, would you be able to change fluids without removing plates?

    There are no zerk fittings so you cannot lubricate it. By adding lubrication on the surface, you will just attract dirt and make a mess. This parts are sealed and internally lubricated. Hence we do not have the zerk fittings.

    Does anyone have experience with such "lubricated for life" things? I am planning to do half a million kilometers in this truck. Am I going to have to replace the driveshaft at some point because of this?

    While I can't answer weather or not you'll have to replace the driveshaft, I do have thoughts on the subject.

    When I first started driving cars, they were 60's vintage autos. In those times virtually every joint in the front end of the vehicle, ball joints, tie rod ends, idler arms, pitman arms, etc. all had grease zerks. Part of the oil change ritual was greasing all those parts.... a real pita!

    Then at some point (don't really recall the time frame) auto manufacturers started producing front ends with no means to lubricate the individual parts. Well we all thought "what a stupid thing to do" now we'll have to be replacing parts all the time. Didn't turn out that way, I think the sealed parts lasted just as well as the greaseable parts did. In many instances the sealed parts lasted much longer simply because the non sealed parts didn't receive the lubrication they needed often enough.

    Just something to think about, good luck with your driveshaft.

    NONE! Lasted about a month, Firestone bags, Decked system, ARE CX HD, WeatherTech mats/rainguards, TRD RSB...
    30k mile service??
    Feel like I got raked through the coals. '19 Tundra went in for inspection and left with 30k mile service, $500 later and no inspection. Lebanon Bennett Toyota is awful.
    My question is, does anyone know what the air ind serv is? I told them to leave the filters alone I can handle that. So why $200 for an air ind serv and fuel inj cleaning?

    I hate not having a lift in my garage.

    Our 2015 Tundra 5.7 has 130000 miles. I've changed the brake pads and oil so far but that's about it. What is a list of must do maintenance items now and what are some should do's? Thanks!

    Good thread.

    My 2021 now has 60k miles, bought new. I drive 30k miles/year with some towing so I tend to hit the 'recommended' milestones rather quickly.

    Here's my plan:
    - Oil always changed every 5k miles, IMO this is the single most important item
    - Engine air filter: Did not change at 30k since it looked brand new. Will check and replace now if it's dirty.
    - Cabin filter: As with engine air filter
    - Brakes: Will swap pads when they're worn, and will replace fluid at the same time
    - Transmission: Will drain & fill now (Only replace the amount I took out, will with hose from above. Not messing with the "check at correct temperature" approach)
    - Rear diff: will replace fluid now
    - Front diff: at 100k miles (very seldom use 4x4)
    - Transfer case: at 100k miles
    - Plugs: at 120k miles
    - Engine coolant: Likely never. Still looks clean & pink.

    I have a hunch I could easily delay virtually everything to 100k, the Tundra wouldn't care. The only corner I won't cut is oil changes.

    From personal experience: I'd worry about the transmission being overfilled at the factory. After a couple of years and a lot of towing mine started making whining noises, which continued after I replaced the transmission fluid, but almost completely stopped after I did the temperature stuff and drained quite a bit of extra.
