I've seen others post that their trucks sound like a powerstroke diesel. Someone did explain that Toyota used plastic pieces around the valve train. I dont recall what pieces those were exactly. You can really hear it next to buildings as the sound bounces off the wall.

They do sound like diesels, but they don’t require DEF and they don’t break. Run it, and check those cam towers for leaks.

Roar at startup is the obnoxious fan noise.

diesel sound is the entire time it's running.

I've been enjoying this transmission a lot, shifts really smoothly. Anyone knows who makes it? Is it Aisin or Toyota made?

    This isn't a 2017, it's a 2018.

These are crazy loud on a cold start up. My neighbor down the street has one and I can hear him every morning and I'm sure he can hear mine too.

Nothing but foam. Check out ESP Underseat storage and they have videos showing them cutting out the foam.

I have had two friends comment that the engine was very loud, especially when passing on the highway (4500 rpms). Honestly, I never thought it was that loud.

Edit: I haven't modified anything. Single exhaust and OEM intake. Right from the factory.

Loudest valve train I've heard in a modern verhicle but with a good exhaust it no longer matters. I'm good with the loud valve train given the performance and reliability. You win some and you lose some but in the end it's a fantastic power plant.

Loud will soon be thing of the past...the new electric hybrid will be quiet; if you’re into silence while driving.

I'd also like to arrive at my destination while maintaining my man card so the Rivian will have to wait . Electric just isn't for me unless I need a cheap city car.

Yep, I actually turn down the radio and run a quiet exhaust so I can hear the engine better... I even removed the engine cover & intake foam insulation. Our quad cam engines make beautiful music to my ears.

Every Toyota truck I've owned has had what many might consider to be "excessive" engine noise in the cabin. I actually think my Tundra might be a little quieter than my 2010 4Runner was, though.
