Well, the big deal is that he paid a MSRP of 53k on a brand new truck only to have damage done do it at the dealer before he could even take it home.

Not sure, did not ask them today because I did not think that was a thing until people in here started mentioning it. They certainly clearly said they were ordering the part, it would be here by Thursday, they would paint it, and have it installed. So I dunno.

I’m sorry to hear man! My 20 TRD pro also got damaged on the right front prior to me picking it up..they had to get a new bumper end cap & paint it and a little dent on the fender.

I believe replacement parts from Toyota come unpainted and the dealer or bodyshop has prep and color match them.

To the OP, Im glad it worked out for you - a free Tailgate Pop-Lock and 8 yrs /100k miles warranty.

Question: will that accident affect the resale/trade in value of the truck?

My sister bought a brand new Camry in 2012 and traded it in 2017. Shes never been to a fender bender and her car has a clean carfax report. The appraiser said the rear bumper has been replaced and appraised it lower than the actual trade in value. He said dealership doesnt really disclose repairs of brand new vehicles to customers.

    I personally wouldn't take delivery.
I wouldn't pay almost 60k for a repaired truck. Will it really matter, no. But a repaired/repainted truck is NOT a new truck. Refuse delivery until you are 100% sure you are ok with only getting a little over a grand in compensation. Offer to trade the truck in as is and see if it's worth only ~$1400 less than what you paid, I would bet not. As soon as you take delivery, it is your problem, and you lose your leverage. They have you, because you want your truck, but that truck (being hit by another car and caused more than enough damage) is something I wouldn't want. Take a brand new bumper and end caps off another truck maybe, but NEVER painted shit body shop replacement throw-ons would make me say ok and take the deal that favors them. They love warranty work because it gets fully funded by Toyota to the dealership. It is only costing them about $500 to make this go away. Didn't mean to be a negative ninny, just another opinion on the situation. Good luck!

Best of luck in whichever way you decide to go OP, but I would buy the truck still.

Accidents happen....at least they seem to be trying to make it right, and that part of the truck won’t be perfect for long anyway. Bugs, road debris, rocks.

OEM painted at factory is the best option!! Dealership body shops very in quality based on painter. If the body shop painter is not awesome then your asking for trouble down the road. Your in a great position to get what you want! If not tell them your walking away from deal and want your refund within 3 business days. You need to feel Happy with your purchase and your TRD PRO! Stick to your guns like we do in TEXAS

Not saying he should want it but I would raise hell at dealer if it didn’t come with it. Maybe another $1k off.

Damn, that sucks. When it comes to a $60K truck, I'd be walking away from it personally. I just wouldn't feel right knowing about that damage even if they made a repair look really good. These trucks aren't unicorns, especially since you paid MSRP. I'd back out and wait for a pristine one to come along.

    I'd tend to agree.
Although the dealer is trying to make it right, there will always be a stigma on that truck.

    @Tommygun45
I know you want the truck.
Sure accidents can happen, but why should you eat it?

Toyota demands MSRP or OVER for a TRD Pro, so a buyer should demand a NEW, UNDAMAGED, 100% factory parts and paint, truck delivery.
It isn't your fault some idiot backed into this truck at the dealership.

I know if I was in your situation, every time started that truck I would have a mental picture of that dented bumper cap, and it would piss me off paying $50K for it.
It ain't worth it for $1K.
Now if they knocked $5K or more off the price , I might could overlook this issue.

BTW on wanting an extended warranty to make it right, I bought extended warranties on both my 2005 DC SR5 and 2014 DC SR5.
Never used it on the 2005, nothing ever went wrong.
I've got 4K miles to go on the 2014 and (knock on wood) I won't use it either, so far so good.

    Good luck...1LL

It’s a gamble. If it’s found out later you can lose 10-20% on trade in for depreciated value due to the accident. I’d walk, it’s not your fault.

Warranty deal sounds awesome to me. I'd almost guarantee Toyota sells those parts already painted.

Just make sure they aren't reporting the damage to insurances

Oh no, so sorry this happened!!! I would also tell them what body shop you want to use, as dealerships are notorious for using traveling auto body people that do more of a shoddy temp fix just to get the car off the lot! As the others have said, I would also highly consider walking away and just waiting patiently at another dealership for another one.

Man that sucks. Same thing happened to my wife's Volvo SUV. I did my best to remain calm and professional but that eventually faded. They repaired and gave me a voucher... I was calling the GM at his home bitching- hahaha. They had the idiot that crashed it apologize. Your Tundra will be mint - I hope you get what you are negotiating.

Ive called two different Toyota dealerships and asked if its possible to order an OEM painted part. They both said no, that all bumpers from Toyota come unpainted. So that would not be a reasonable request apparently. One of the guys said it happens fairly frequently and usually the buyer never finds out about it, but to def check the paint very closely and make sure it matches.

I also have sold my other car. So our family is down to 1 vehicle which isn't the end of the world, but is an issue in the weeks/months ahead. There are no other Tundras within a few hundred miles of me and all of them have issues. Miles on them, demos, one is a 2019 etc.

I dont think any dealerships are getting new 2020's any time soon.

You can look at @Roman Ultimate OEM Toyota parts thread.
You'll see if you want to swap from chrome to painted bumper ends, you have to get them painted locally..

That sucks! Hopefully you get what makes you happy. As far as you looking to get a TRD PRO in 2023, i highly doubt that, unless Toyota is bringing them down to their new platform. Keep your PRO, and enjoy it for many years to come :D

Dude that was pretty lame. We get it it's a truck, but when you haven't even drove off the lot, that would piss me off. I think you would agree with that.

Way back in 08 when the New Subaru STI came out I ordered a black one, the car was a hot item and had to be ordered in to my local dealership a total of a 10 week wait. On the day the car was to show I got the call, your car is here we're sending it to detail and Pre Delivery Inspection, car should be ready in 2 hours. 4 hours later I call and the salesman is acting flighty on the phone. After finally losing my cool with him he says, there's been a incident with the car, we wrecked it. I called bull$#!+ and hauled ass up to the dealership (I've had cars sold out from underneath me before) when I got to the dealer the GM and sales manager meet me in the lot, I figured that a BS excuse was coming. They escorted me to the detail area and the whole right side (bumper to bumper, Headlamp to Tail Light peeled off) "sorry, the porters foot slipped off the clutch, we can fix it". Told them I'd give them $25k cash right on the spot, they lol'd until the Parts manager walked up with a parts cost invoice for 28k. My offer sounded really good at that point but was off the table when they lol'd. I found the only other black STI in the state 4 hours away and told them to go get it or write me a check immediately. "We'll have somebody drive it over", I replied "Get F'ING BENT or the deal is off, flatbed it, I'll do the PDI, don't drive it, just get it to the dealership, Did you know I work for Subaru" The transaction went smooth as glass after that. Bottom line, If you're not happy make them bring in the exact vehicle with no damage or refund your money and go get it somewhere else.

P.S. I performed a Lemon Law on the wrecked car 6 months later they "fixed" it and sold as a new car, Subaru of America was livid and almost pulled the dealerships license.

Definitely sucks, but honestly that’s not bad at all. If that’s the worst thing that ever happens to the truck in it’s lifetime then you should be happy!

Let them fix it, and make it right in terms of warranty or whatever else that squeeze out of them. Maybe new better rubber or predator steps?

Not trying to downplay your situation, but just to give some context on another new truck disaster.....

Back in 2017 I purchased a brand new beautiful Ram luxury Sport midnight. Had new tires / tint / bedliner / light bar / exhaust installed the first week. Only had the truck for less than a month before I got T-boned by a lady who ran a red light. Hadn’t even made the first scheduled monthly payment on it yet. Massive battle with insurance on a multitude of levels for nearly 7 months. Was so mad having to pay for a totaled truck for 7 months, but it wasn’t the bank’s problem. Finally got settlement from at-fault insurance company and finally got the truck totaled. Legit disaster.
