Yes, I too consider those things ~ the truck is in great condition otherwise, but I know Toyota's aren't magical. Other things can break, and eventually they will.

    1) KBB sez about $25k for private party, $22k for trade. The dealership offered me $16k or so on trade as is with kaput tranny, or $22k with it fixed.

    2) I would want to get another Tundra I think (can't go smaller as we tow things) and they are astronomical right now. I really don't want to increase my monthly payment right now (It's $197!) and I'd be at least in the mid to high $300s with a trade and a good interest rate. The dealer has several 2018s that are priced in the $50k range right now! Shocking really.

I think all things considered I'll just fix it and hope the rest of the rig holds for another several years.

I just got the same issue a few weeks ago... I've been awaiting some parts to try and service the transmission... I got the same p2714 code with p0894... Transmission at the local stealership is 3k.. could probably DIY on the swap, but I'm in a crossroads since I'm about to move so time is of the essence right now.... Mine is paid off, but I don't really want to hang myself on a new 4 digit payment... my kbb is shockingly 10k on trade in, so I might as well do it...

Well, at least I'm not the Lone Ranger! Bummer this is happening. What year and how many miles on your truck? The trade prices are a joke. I would bet good money that if I traded for 16k, they would fix the tranny for 2500k or probably way less, and have it on the lot for 30k - 35k in two weeks.

Got an 07 5.7L with 230k 2wd... and I would agree with you. I did have issues at the beginning of my ownership with the transmission leaking towards the yoke, and then towards the front, all I got now is some oil stains in the bell housing, not really sure if its trans fluid or motor oil...
