Sorry, I get them confused... Crewmax has as much 'trunk' space as a car...

I don’t know off hand. There are a few resources out there who can provide invoice pricing - I think I got my last through consumer reports and a friend who is no longer in the business. I also had an idea what the dealer holdback was and any rebates they got. Dealers have several ways of getting a deal done, if they want to. They also would’ve made money off your trade of course. It sounds like however they didn’t want to play ball with you .

3.5K hit is a big loss considering you only drove 300 miles or so. Furthermore, that SR5 isn't worth 46k that the dealer is asking for even with the BS discount strategy. you could actually get a platinum or 1794 for that price including TTL. just ask @Boomer. I believe the price is high on this because of the color cavalry blue which is currently hot in the market. If the color isn't important to you then you might want to consider a more neutral color. If you get a sweet deal on a platinum or 1794 then you could consider a deal.

Knowing the "invoice price" is mostly irrelevant. There are sooooo many other factors that affect the bottom line. The main one being what the dealership will actually sell the truck for. This will vary wildly between dealers. They will almost never take a loss on selling a new truck.

Tell the children that the next one that kicks the seat is going to be voted out of the family, and when they do, send to grandma's for the weekend. The other will be so traumatized they willl not kick anything again. ( yes, I am trying to be funny). Okay, seriously, bolt the car seats in the bed and problem solved

Are the kids rear facing currently? When they grow out of that it could free up some space. Also, are there different car seats that could give you more space? I will say the crew max is nice with kids.

Unfortunate circumstance, my first criteria when I was looking at trucks was fitting 2 rear facing car seats and 2 adults besides me. If you find the right truck at the right dealer, you might be able to swing a deal. Expect the 3k loss though, plus dealer fees.

I know your situation but room will be readily available like someone said when they grow out of the car seat and into a booster seat. Nothing sucks more than having additional negative equity even if you pay it all down.

When I had my 1st son, I had a regular cab Tacoma, it worked. 2nd son came along in 2008, I traded the regular cab Tacoma for a brand new double cab Tacoma, it worked just fine, 5 yr old and a infant in a double cab Tacoma. If it can work in a taco, it will definitely work in a double cab tundra. I've got a double cab tundra now, my boys are 15 and 10. Perfect truck.

I used to hate putting my daughter in her rear facing seat in my DC. I am taller and had to put my seat forward even with her in the middle. I got a CM now. Love it.
If you go sell private party, be careful about the tax implications. Here in Iowa if i trade the truck directly into the dealer I only pay tax on the difference. You have already paid tax on your truck once so you would be paying tax on the additional 5 or 8K. If you sell private party, you will be paying tax on the whole vehicle purchase again.

I have a crewmax and my 5 year old daughter can still kick my seat.

Save your money, I would consider a double cab for my next truck. They're only little for awhile, not the whole life of the truck.

Really? In Missouri you use your bill of sale and only pay tax on the difference regardless of who the buyer is.

Same thing in Colorado. Saved a couple grand in taxes trading in my Tacoma. Almost enough to offset the private party retail difference.

Same in WA, we have what's called a used tax. You can save a lot on taxes if you trade it in. It's like selling private party a few grand more and not pay the sales (used tax) part.

Sell private party KBB (example) $40k
Trade in black book or below KBB trade in (that' what dealers do) @ $35k + tax saves on a new one up to $2900 = $37,900. minimal sales tax for the difference on the new vehicle.

Btw, I traded my 2016 Chevy Silverado LT extended cab. Kbb private party is listed for 30-31k. Dealer offered me 26500. Use tax credit 2226. That's 28700. I didn't have to deal with thet jackers and hagglers. Lost a little but didn't sell my soul. Lol

My wife and I don't have kids yet, still a bit early, but....my nephew is 3 and my niece is 6 months....and their two car seats BARELY fit in a rental Nissan Murano that my bro and sister in law had for the week we were in Park City for new years. The middle seat almost couldn't even be seen let alone sat in. They're MASSIVE, but for a good reason, lots of protection thankfully. I know for a fact they will not fit in my DC whenever that happens. We're planning on upgrading wifey's vehicle to be the kid hauler. At this point planning on a 2018 or 2019 Dodge Durango RT AWD w/the 5.7 HEMI and center captain's chairs and keeping the truck too :) Semi-reluctantly I'd just give up the keys to the truck if I needed the kid hauler....but that's why I want a kid hauler that hauls ass and sounds good doing it too!

I had a crewmax and am now in a double cab with a 4-year-old and a 1-year-old. I kind of miss the crewmax space but I love the extra foot in the bed and there's still plenty of room for car seats. Also, my son knows not to kick my seat!

Wait until you can trade for a CM of the same year with similar mileage: one will pop up eventually [in a year]. You'll have to pay for the difference of price between DC and CM, but everything else should remain equal. Just a thought ...
