I look forward to the Ram adopting the new Hurricane I6 twin turbo. It’s getting good reviews in the Grand Wagoneer. The high output unit
/ZF 8 speed combo is yeeting that 6000+lb brick from 0-60 in under 5 seconds!

Meanwhile Toyota can’t manage to get under 6 seconds with their new iForce or iForceMax.

I am now officially calling a Ram 1500 as being on my radar.

    Sigh….

Take care of your stuff and it will take care of you. The fact that they are generally the cheapest truck on the market means they may end up in the hands of people who don't value or take care of them properly. Just my two cents

yeah because buying a truck for its speed is super necessary. If you want something fast go buy a car

Already have a pretty quick car.

The fact a trucks priority isn’t speed, 0-60 and 1/4 mile times are still indicative of how much power a vehicle is putting to the ground and the new Tundra is wildly underperforming in testing.

I also dislike V6’s, and these days the V6 has no reason to exist. Passenger cars that are FWD can now get plenty of power with a modern turbo I4, so no need for a V6 anymore.

All other applications can be designed to easily accommodate the glorious, inherently balanced, fine sounding, broad torque curve producing superior 6 cylinder engine where the pistons are all in a row. Putting a V6 in an engine bay that could take an I6 is just laziness and cost cutting at the expense of quality.

I will still give the 3rd Gen Tundra a chance because I can’t ignore how good my 2nd Gen has been for nearly 16 years.

The problem is nothing on the 3rd Gen is very compelling, when the 2nd Gen came out it had the most power, most gears, biggest rear end gears, biggest brakes etc of any 1/2 ton. The 3rd Gen offers none of those compelling differentiating features.

    Nah.

Think more meth pipe, double wide, mullet, Jorts, sleeveless t-shirts, restraining orders.

That’s an average Ram 1/2 ton buyer.

Believe me it’s not a group I want to associate or be associated with.

A guy across the street in the upper suite of a rental duplex is the epitome of Ram owner. Pretty sure he bought the Ram Owner Starter Kit.

Red ram 1500, jacked up, loud stereo he insists on making sure everyone hears, gawdy big ass wheels and low profile mud tires. Dude only wears camo or red sweatpants and matching hoodie, flat bill hat, white framed sunglasses. Clearly does steroids but only works out his arms so he has tiny legs and a big beer gut. Owns a husky he either leaves tied up in the yard or lets run loose leading to him yelling profanity up and down the block chasing it. Enjoys leaving his front door open so the neighborhood can also enjoy his atrocious taste in gangster rap. Walks with an attempted tough guy swagger but ends up looking like he just shit his pants. Basically a loser peacocking for attention.

We call him Neighbor Douche. Looking forward to when he eventually moves out.

In the Canadian market at least, the SR5 comes equipped far better than other trucks at a comparable price point in my opinion. This combined with a proven record of reliability (I realize this is up for debate with redesign/new powertrain) and excellent resale value were enough to convince me.

I do acknowledge everyone's needs are different and different attributes will hold varying importance for each buyer.

    Let’s be realistic here.

That dude is never moving out unless he gets evicted.

He spends all his money on roids, meth, Bud Light, flat bill hats, and $1000/month truck payment on an 84 month note because he has a 600 FICO beacon and his APR is like 18%.

This dude isn’t going to own his own home. Ever.

So you probably need to plan on moving if you want to be rid of him.

Never in my life would I have considered buying a Dodge product or ever leaving Toyota for another truck but this embarrassment the new Tundra has become with its laughable looks and still a dozen years behind in technology means Ram will be in my driveway when my 2019 five years are up.

Ah, but I live in a resource industry town. Renters are generally transitory. 2 years is average before they move on. So far, he's at 8 months.

Besides, it'd be easier to make his life miserable so he move on than move myself. My side of the street is all homeowners.

True. I will give Toyota credit for the SR5 and Limited trims offering decent value for the money on overall features. Beyond that I think the other trim levels are overpriced compared to their luxo-barge 1/2 ton competition or focused off road truck competitors.

As stated earlier I also can’t ignore the decade and a half of good service my 2007 has given me so far. My current truck is the longest I have ever owned a vehicle that is my primary driver.

However the new truck is unproven, and if I’m keeping anything long term it will be getting an extended warranty: including a new Tundra.

There is a very strong chance that next summer once we’re firmly in a recession I will consider a new truck. Some of the decision will come down to perceived and predicted reliability, but I have to like the truck too. The Toyota will be more expensive for me, because I get a vendor discount with Ram, GM, and Ford. I expect that in order to move trucks there will be deep discounts and finance deals to be had and that will factor in as well. Toyota doesn’t usually like to play that game, and at a certain point unless the Tundra is clearly superior in every way it might be tough to justify the premium price.

Ummmm... A Power Wagon for towing???? The Power Wagon being off road focused kills the towing and payload. Max towing is 10600 lbs and payload is only 1630 lbs. So he's downgraded his towing capabilities from the Rebel since they're 11500 and 1870 lbs respectively.

Look I ain’t look into all that stuff, but it’s just more comfortable towing with a 3/4 ton, bigger brakes, blah blah blah. I’m not for Rams… I’m pro Toyota I don’t have any reason to make the story up…

I fully believe it, seen it myself. Too many people don't know different trims have different payload and towing numbers. They just see the brochure that says 'up to 20000 lbs of towing' and think that's every single trim of that model. And this isn't exclusive to Ram or domestics - we've seen it on this site. Scary to know there's people out there willingly going double (or in some cases more) the rated capacity of their vehicles thinking they're 100% safe.

I have seen some I6 cylinders crank out some impressive HP and torque numbers.

Same; as much as I like the idea of TT engines, I'd put an TT I6 on order tomorrow if Toyota came out with one.

this one Toyota is using now is no slouch but ya a online 6 twin turbo would be a torque monster

I hope the new 4Runner and Tacoma get a inline 4 turbo

All black Dodge Ram guy forget to mention how you can beat liter bikes in a race.

I’ve lost count of how many of those clowns have tried racing me on my motorcycle. Still waiting for one with a supercharger, nitrous, etc. to come close to hanging with me. Someday…

I had Rams, and I like them, I probably will pick up a night edition megacab if we get a larger trailer, but black 1500 classics definitely has a stereotype, kinda like those F150 Maple Leaf edition.

It's the muffler delete yo, I think they are the only one sounds good with muffler delete, but it seems the moment they do that, guys just drive them with pedal to the metal everywhere.
