Traded my 2022 tundra in for a Ram Laramie

I’ve been a loyal Toyota person for over 40 years. I recently purchased my third tundra (2022) eight months ago. This 3rd generation has been such a major disappointment! The interior is cheap and rattles and the exterior follows suit, with plenty of plastic moldings and rubber seals that are loose and don’t match up like a Toyota should and a bed that rattled ever time I want over a bump. I tried to like it and spent tons of money on mods, but it still felt like an inferior truck. But, finally after eight months of wanting to like it , I decided to look at a Ram Laramie at one of my local dealerships. Wow! I was blown away with the quality of the Ram trucks compared to the Tundra’s. The steel on the body of the ram feels twice as thick as the tundra and the interior is far more luxurious than the Tundra. The only thing better on my Tundra was the Safety sense features, other than that the Ram’s ride is so much smoother and feels much more solid without the interior road noise.
This has been a bittersweet experience, but sadly I have to say I’m done with Toyota, they let a once loyal customer look elsewhere.
I’m now a Extremely proud owner of a well built Ram pickup. I just hope it turns out to be as reliable as my previous Tundra’s.

Sucks the Tundra didn't work out for you. Better luck with the the RAM and enjoy the new truck.

God, I wish I could disagree with your decision. I 100% believe the Ram will not be as reliable as the Tundra although it is much better than it was years ago. I can't argue though with the fact you must be happy, and the embarrassing looks of the new Tundra are too much to overcome for me. The light years ahead the Ram gives you in technology and usage of it are also something the Tundra failed on. If you're a person who keeps a truck five or six years (the actual vast majority of truck owners) then the Ram is a much better choice.

They gave me the original MSRP. I put 4,900 miles on it and the dealership that bought my truck are selling it at 6k over original msrp.

Sorry to hear this and good luck to you with the Ram, but this is why it’s an individual thing. I had the exact polar opposite opinion of the Ram vs Tundra driving experience. Test drove both and to me personally the Tundra was much smoother, quieter, quicker, etc. (does that Ram rear window roll completely down :p). We all have different opinions and why there are so many different name brands of almost any product. Guess you will be off to DodgeRam.com forum? Tell them ole Ram boys you are not a spy trying to get inside info to come back and provide to us……..

p.s…….doesn’t surprise me on the buy back price. It’s crazy out there right now in new/used vehicle sales…..

My neighbor has a ram rebel. It feels far more sturdy and “thicker” than the tundra. Why does the tundra weigh so much lol where is the bulk

I can't disagree with you. I bought a Ram the summer of '18, the release of the newest style. I thought at the time it was full of problems and customer support sucked. Now, after owning my first Toyota for 8 months, I see what problems and bad service really are. I had sworn off the Ram brand, but will probably go back to them for my next truck. I think the ride on the Toyota is better than any vehicle I've owned, except for the Ram. That was definitely a smoother ride in mine and my wife's opinion.

In all seriousness one of the best trucks I have ever owned, and kept the longest was a Ram. 1994 Ram SLT regular cab long bed 2wd 1/2 ton with the 5.2 magnum, 318, and auto.

Kept it from 1994 until 2002, only mechanical issues were 2 water pumps and a starter. I probably should have kept it since I see it running around town every now and then.

The 2002 was eh so so.

    The 2007 Ram was fun.

The 2011 Ram was good for the short time I owned it other than the torque converter had to be replaced. Over all it was a good truck, then I traded it in for a 2013 tundra.

I have thought about going back to a Ram but have not really looked one over.

I’m a Toyota Mopar guy, and I feel the struggle lol.

Hard to beat my 06’ Tundra. Bought it cash rides nice and solid. No issues even at 310k and still gets 17mpg if I keep it at 70mph, paint is perfect.

Sure it doesn’t have all the creature comforts and technology, or that super quite ride, but beats a $800 a month truck note.

That being said I have an 18’ Ram 3500 Dually Laramie that I pretty much only use for towing the toys around, and it’s a solid truck. When Chrysler had their short stint owning Mercedes, they stole a lot of their creature comfort technology, and it shows in their newer vehicles. Best interiors by far in every way.

Hey I know and understand the love for Dodge. This was my Ram Charger I wish I never sold and still had. It had the 360 and would swallow gas like a prostitute sweating in church. Probably got like 6mpg, but man I loved her. Just got married and going off to basic had to let her go. But even with the love i had for “Blue Beauty”, this new Tundra would of made me cheat on her big time. Of course it’s new so smoother/more efficient, but I have said this before, I think Toyota did an excellent job on the design of the 22’s. So you can’t call me a Toyota fan boy as this was my first Toyota, and won’t be my last…..:amen:

I have a ram 1500 2013 now., 120k original owner, used best oil, never races my truck, loved it.

Hemi v8 is a dinosaur, 12mpg engine, and still has lifter camshaft/lifter issues even on new trucks. I've had mine fixed once at 60k miles, and it's now about to break again, knocking very loud. $7-9k repair. Or new engine $12k if too many metal shavings.

Manifold bolts broke off 3 times now. One of heads had to be replaced completely because bolt couldn't be drilled out.

Transmission shift funny now, even after Oem fluid changes every 50k miles.

Brakes are pulsating - probably something central brake system, as I already had new rotors and brakes done.

Ram dealerships... Good luck with that. Terrible customer service, and they always just try to get rid of you.

Over 10 years of ownership, my truck been in service for repairs maybe 12-15 times for various issues.

Fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice, shame on me. So no more American truck for me. I would personally feel so so so dumb and stupid to buy another ram and then deal with its issues again...

I'm an avid member of ram forum site... These engine issues and manifold bolts are posted daily. Guys on forum go out of their skin to heal chronic issues with hemi engine by using expensive Redline oil, royal purple filters, doing engine oil analysis! (is this common on Tundra forums lol? To fix issues that Chrysler won't bother figuring out, and keeps making same bad engines with same bad manifold issues and camshaft lifter issues.

Over the ten years of owning a ram I became an Audiophile - I can tell which engine noise means what: is it an exhaust leak or injectors firing off, or a "hemi tick" or lifters grinding through the camshaft. Oh, and I have not one, but two different CEL engine code reading tools... And if your life is boring, all of the new CEL codes will surely add some excitement to it. Especially when you'll keep chasing that intermittent CEL that pops up and disappeares randomly, or sometimes when you use remote start.

I'm still attracted to ram, but I couldn't let my emotions make the decision to get another ram and run back and forth to the service for the next 10 years ...

I didn't want to buy a new truck now, my ram truck worked perfectly fine for me, I could have used it for another 10 years, but it's falling apart big time after 120k miles, and I'll have to spend $20k to repair all of the issues on a 10 year old truck - which is stupid, so I'm trading it in.

How often does Tundra forum gets issues posted? Does Toyota have any major chronic unresolved issues with their trucks?

Getting my 1794 delivered within a week now.

You're completely done with Toyota due to *one* bad experience?

If that's the case, we'll see you back here soon. I literally know of no one who's owned *ANY* Ram, ever, who hasn't had FAR more bad experiences, myself included.

I also had a 94 Ram pickup with a 318, put 250,000 miles on it. I needed to have the transmission rebuild at one point but the engine was still running good at the end. The problem with the truck was it completely rusted out like no vehicle I’ve owned before. It would no longer pass inspection. There were no bottoms to the doors, just a 3” wide open gap that had completely rusted away, cab corners gone, gas tank straps gone (I was holding the gas tank in with braided cable), rear bumper mostly gone etc., etc. I don’t see a single one on the road anymore, there are still early 90’s Chevys and Fords here and there but the Dodges seem to have all rusted away. I don’t know if the newer ones are better but I’d be reluctant to own another one in an area where it snows.

I went and looked at Ram over the weekend since they are running a good financing promo currently and I have no idea when my requested Tundra build will maybe be built. I personally wasn't a fan of the Ram's interior setup. It was a Big Horn double cab with the 12" radio package and for the price I feel like it was missing quite a few things that standard on a Limited Tundra at the same price.

If you owned an old Dodge and loved it, it was a 318. If you see an old dodge running around still, it’s a 318. That little motor was a workhouse and pretty darn reliable. The 360 was an anchor. Would love an old Ramcharger with a 318.

The reason I said I’m done with Toyota is because, I’m almost 60 and this will most likely be my last truck. Time to roll the dice

Ive had a lot of Rams as rentals. Last week I had a Ram Laramie with the GT package and Hemi ETorque for 7 days in Calgary/Banff and really enjoyed the truck. Ram does some intuitive, cool stuff.

But then I always get back to my 2014 Ecoboost F150 and remember why I like it. The low end torque, even at 6500’ of elevation, is far superior and the engine/driveline is just smooth and quiet. I imagine the Tundra is similar and even better

I will say, Ram’s 8 speed trans is spectacular. Its always in the right gear and just feels so good
