Good luck!! I had 3 Ram's. All were really nice. My only issue (and why I wouldn't buy another) is the dealers in my area are terrible and couldn't care less. From the stupid games they play buying it all the way through getting something fixed or recalls or whatever. I would probably buy another if a decent dealer was in my area but they're all crooks.

Read that earlier, not a pretty conclusion. I've never driven in a ram so no idea but they describe it as near heaven...

0 having on two rims before this 1794 I can say there really is no comparison in terms of ride quality or structural rigidity, The RAM is light years ahead and the switchgear is better but I lost 50% trading both of them in and I'll never do that again

We still have a few issues. Starting out from a dead stop there's a little lag sometimes, my fuel gauge lies sometimes, The rubber around the windows haven't been addressed yet, and there may be a few others. My guess is the '23s will have a few quirks, just not as many. But its Toyota. They bend over backwards to make things right so other vehicles may be shinier or faster or more powerful, but I know that when mine's broke its going to be taken care of.

Starting with the '01s, all Limited and some optioned SR5 and Sport models had "MultiMode". So yeah, 2wd, 4wd and AWD. Despite this, the '99s were the last year with 4wd with an optional Rear E Locker (but no multimode).

Center locking diff works great in mud, snow and ice. The last big freeze over here in texas, I cruised by many vans, pickups and lots and lots of Jeeps stranded on the sides of Austin roads, I had Zero issues moving along, it was a blast to experience that.

they are awesome and 100% a better truck in almost everyday, except one.

that said, mine was pretty good, it never left me stranded and my tundra did once, (fuel pump).

from the Car and Driver review - Tundra

Highs: Major torque, cushy Fox suspension, airy cabin.
Lows: No full-time all-wheel-drive mode, hybrid battery kills interior storage, weight negates power advantage.
Verdict: One for the Tundra fans.
The new Tundra is a quixotic beast.

You get the idea that along many points of the product-development decision process, Toyota said, "We're not going to outsell any of the domestic trucks no matter what we do, so let's not strain ourselves." And thus the hybrid system uses a nickel-metal hydride battery instead of a lithium-ion one, and it takes up all the rear under-seat storage. The transfer case doesn't have a full-time mode, meaning that in normal on-road driving the TRD Pro is rear-wheel drive funneling 583 pound-feet to an open diff beneath an unladen pickup bed—in the rain, a hybrid Tundra might do a one-wheel peel until it runs out of gas. Which, incidentally, it drank at the highest rate of our trio, averaging 16 mpg in our testing. That provided us frequent opportunities to notice that the Tundra still has a gas cap, while the other trucks have capless fillers.

Seriously.... why so much torque in a RWD and no AWD.
This review just confirms what I already thought, that the Hybrid Tundra was a one shot effort and is short lived.
A real hybrid is coming. JMO

    Quixotic - their words.

2 years of free Toyotacare is great and the one here has a nice diner and they gave us free lunch. The BLT is delicious....but yea the last time I went for a recall service they charged me $300 for a cabin filter and air filter replacement, tire rotation and a tire balancing I did not ask for.

Great article and comparison of those trucks. Couldn’t agree more with their findings.

These 5th Gen Rams are the best driving / riding / sounding trucks on the road, with the most luxurious / comfortable / functional interior as well. They are NOT the poor Dodge trucks from the early 2000’s - mid 2010’s.

Have put almost 60K miles on two Ram work trucks the last 3 years with absolutely ZERO issues. Over the last 25 years of doing Heavy Civil Construction and driving / beating to death every work truck imaginable during that time, nothing has been more reliable and nothing has been more a pleasure to drive.

Edit- Disclaimer…. Am not including the Raptor / Rivian / TRX in my opinion, would take any of them over the three trucks in the comparison.

My only gripe with the C&D comparison is that they compared the off-road Tundra version against Ford and Ram's more luxury focused street trucks. They should have compared a Platinum Tundra to the other 2 or an F150 Tremor and Ram Rebel to the TRD Pro Tundra. I would be curious to see how different the review would have been if they had compared more similar versions of the trucks.

I never really considered it a pure AWD system (Subaru) because it actually has a transfer case and the drive shaft goes through it to drive the rear wheels...I have no idea how this thing works but that is my understanding. How does it decouple the speed differences between the front and rear? It doesn't look like a differential to me. I'll read up on it when I'm bored. Lol.

Nothing has been more reliable than 60k miles with no issues? o_O I don’t think this is sending the message you’re intending to send…

In 25 years of construction trucks of every brand (besides Toyota, but even had a Titan for two years), the 5th Gen Rams have been the only ones with ZERO issues. Just my experience.

Granted, most of these are not top of the line trim levels. So many of the electronic problems associated with luxury features wouldn’t be an issue. But have had Sierra Denalis and LT Quadrasteer Silverados, and they certainly were not the models of trouble free use.

4th gen V6's never had AWD as an option, you're either in 2hi, 4hi (4WD), or 4lo (4WD). All of the V8 4runners (mine included) are AWD with the selector for 4hi (4WD) or 4lo (4WD).

It helps to think about an AWD transfer case as having an "open differential" in it which allows the front and rear axles to "slip" and regular 4wd is essentially a locker that locks that center diff. AWD in my 4runner is nice for cruising up to the mountains in the snow/ice but otherwise, no benefit in day to day use.

It's great for parallel parking on snow banks in Chicago! The regular 4WD systems (Tundra) bind too much in the cities. Even in the snow. But yea if you're a plow truck or something I guess keep it locked. As I said I barely use the 4WD in the Tundra. Everytime it binds I feel like I'm gonna break something. I leave it on in the 4runner for snow traction...Even on dry pavement sometimes when I expect black ice.

Also good luck OP. I don't believe in brand loyalty. If there is something better then buy it. Competition leads to better products.

Dang. That’s a pretty condemning review of the hybrid drivetrain. 583 ft-lbs all going to one wheel in an open rear diff

I’m sure the 3rd gen has all the electronic nannies of the 2nd gen and maybe more, but the electronic LSD in these trucks has always been pretty abysmal.

Sorry all you young'uns:D. The Chevette was Chevy's "import fighter" in the eighties....(1980's) We bought one in '80; it was reliable but also a little dangerous!

I see a lot of good posts about preferences and usage needs, but I'm not seeing any fair comparisons on value per dollar. I can build a 2023 Tundra CM 4x2 SR5 with SX Package and Convenience package for 46k. In order to get similar features and amenities I would get in a Tundra in a Ram, I need to add mulitple packages and add-ons coming in thousands over that of the Tundra.
