"My truck just stalls while driving. It’s happened several times but yesterday was the scariest. I turned left onto a fairly busy road only to notice I had a message on the screen to turn on the truck. Since we were rolling at 3-4mph, I switched into neutral and hit the start button which started the engine. At the next red light, the engine turned off and the emergency brake applied itself. The car behind me almost hit us because we were parked at a green light now. I quickly got it started and pulled over. There were no warning lights or messages. The dealer doesn’t know what the issue is. Truthfully I’m a little concerned with my family’s safety while driving this truck."

At least with Tundras you could actually drive it. I will take leaky seals all day over not being able to drive it

Most of the positive statements I hear about Ram are of the sort “the fit and finish is light years ahead of Toyota/GM/Ford/etc” or “I was totally knocked out by how smooth it rides” or “it has the best interior hands down”.

These are all first impression statements.

I want to know how it has treated you over several years. Two water pumps, a new torque converter, lifter repairs, manifold bolts, cab mounts (this is a frequent post at the Ram forum as well), etc etc etc—this is the kind of shit I am flat out allergic to.

That truck could do my taxes and make my coffee every morning, but if I have to go back and fight with the dealer to get a problem that they somehow can’t recreate covered by warranty, then it’s eating into my time. And my time is far far FAR more precious to me than the way a truck rides or the way its interior looks.

That’s why I’m here driving this dinosaur. I’ve never been back to the dealer. All maintenance and mods have been performed in my driveway. It’s paid for. All I have to do is feed it. Zero issues in 33k miles. I expect this to continue for a long time.

I had a '19 Ram 1500. I was really impressed with it. Decided (foolishly) to "upgrade" to a 2500 gas. That truck was horrible. The tranny had to be re-built twice at 40k miles, it was uncomfortable, and drove like shit. I ordered a Tundra and another 1500. The Tundra came in first. After driving it I was sold. For reference I tried a F150 as well. It was the least comfortable. The new rams are nice. But the Tundra is just money!

Another very important point. After 50k miles my Ram felt like it had 100k on it. Toyotas (and a few other brands) still feel new at 50k. Plus, RESALE VALUE!!!

Until the AIP valves shit the bed on you.

The power steering rack decides to crash

    Headlights catch fire

Fuel pump decides to crap out

Cam tower leaks cause a major oil spill causing you to lose traction and slide around and crash and burn while screaming loudly but no one can hear you because of the big V8 roar

Frame rusts into pieces and falls apart on you.

Just a few examples of how the tundra is not perfect, nothing man made is.

Take it to the dealer. I would have the dealer come with a flat bed and come get it. The grab handle on the drivers side is for the same thing it is on the other side! It is so the driver can grab it to get into the vehicle.

Good luck with your new truck.
Was watching the game last night to see if Judge hit 61 and the advertising was in my face.
If you are looking for a truck for a few years and to sell before warranty expires that $10000 off RAM in Canada can be an enticing carrot.

Hate to hear you had issues with your Tundra. I have been with Toyota since 2006. I was a combo Mopar and GM owner for decades. I still own one not by choice. Wife won't let an '02 Caravan go. I kept my first Tundra for 10 years. Only traded it because the '16 caught my eye and the trade in value was great. I planned to keep it as long but the '22 came along. I didn't like the look at first. When I had a chance to see touch and feel at a car show, I felt the same as you about the interior. Over time it grew on me. Now I cant wait to get one. A truck is an investment and I like to see that investment pay off. As much as I like the looks of the Sierra and Rams, I just can't see grabbing my ankles when it's trade in time. Best of luck with your Ram.

I tend to avoid the first model year of a vehicle because the daily use issues have not been fully worked out. Are people really surprised by the fact that a truck completely rebuilt from the ground up has issues?

I know that someone has to buy the first year of a new generation, but it's not gonna be me. I'm hoping that Toyota actually figures some things out with the '22s so that the '23s will be back to what we expect from a Toyota.

Yeah . well 4 of the walks with the Jays so far went to 3-2. So there have been pitches.

Good luck OP - hope you find what you are looking for in your new vehicle.

I can see some of the points made here being valid regarding the Gen 3. I guess my only question is - why f you’ve been a loyalist and happy with a brand for many years did you not seek out a 2.5 with the tried and true tech?

Not saying every Ram made is a POS - nor am I saying every 2021 Tundra is issue free. But I do believe in probability over possibility. It’s POSSIBLE that a new 2022 Ram is problem free for 10 years/100k - just as it’s POSSIBLE a Tundra has problems in that time frame. It’s the probability that catches up with you though. Again - 1 truck and you’ve picked your horse so ride it and enjoy. Just expect a lot of “told you so’s” if you come back here in a couple of years saying you opted to dump the Ram and return to Toyota - but hopefully it serves you well.

My point is all of the manufactures have issues, some more than others some years. Plenty of folks with all brands have very positive experiences with other brands for many years.
Some have crappy experiences with toyota.

The cam tower leak thread is several thousand post long and still running. Like the oil pouring out of those sweet V8 cam towers LOL

In normal times, a truck is a depreciating asset. Toyota trucks just depreciate more slowly than the others.

Good luck with the RAM. They're pretty popular around here but I think that's more to do with the fact that RAM will finance anyone with a pulse and provides deep "discounts" off MSRP giving the illusion of a good deal (a $50K msrp RAM isn't worth anywhere close to that, which is why you can get one for the high 30's to low 40's).

The Woman's uncle is a sales manager at a RAM dealership. He flat out refuses to sell them to friends and family because he considers the build quality to be garbage. He also says because of this average ownership of a RAM half ton is about 3 years which is why he loves selling them. He has customers coming in every 3 years or so to trade in a truck and buy a new one.

Im on my 3rd Tundra. I’ll admit, I have no interest in gen3, even my wife not poisoned with my thoughts cracks jokes at gen3 when we see them on the road together. I just wont buy one until they make gen 3.5 potentially, its an ugly truck thats way too low to the ground and appears to have taken too many estrogen supplements.

    But….

A Dodge?? LMAO…. Come on… In my professional life, we have a large nationwide fleet… some 1/2 ton, some 3/4 and some 1ton.. we also have mid sized like Tacomas. The dodges have had, by far, the largest cost of ownership in all sizes as well as the most down time. Although we have 0 Tundras to compare to F150’s, we have plenty of Tacomas. The Tacomas have almost 0 repairs, almost 0, across an entire country for a very large publicly traded company. We eliminated Dodge all together the last few years. I’ll never forget buying kitty litter to absorb the tranny fluid in my buildings parking lot for the ram’s that physically dropped their tranny’s…. This happened multiple times over the years.

Never a Dodge in my driveway, I seriously might make guests park on the road lol, I dont want a stain!!!

I think all brands are having issues right now. I believe it’s supply chain and employment issues of getting good people who want to work. It’s a problem everywhere.

Not to mention first year of a vehicle. I’ve had several first year cars and they all had problems. GTR’s had trans issues until 2011. Cayennes had coil pack issues 2011-2012, transfer case issues from 2011-2015.

all DFI engines had carbon issues until manufacturers finally put some extra injectors before the valve train

Planes are same way actually with gremlin issues lol
