To reiterate, I had a set of takeoff 2021 BBS Pro rims with tires and the original Pro model TPMS sensors installed on my 2021 SR5. Firestone tried to sync them to my truck using the button in the cab and also their scanning machine and could not do it. I asked the dealership to sync the TPMS to the truck when I dropped it off and was told that they needed to break down the tires in order to see the ID numbers on the actual sensors and I would be charged for 2-1/2 hours or labor.

I had a 50+ mile long non-stop trip on the freeway today, so I decided to try the TPMSinitializing and registration process again to see if I can get the truck to recognize the sensors.

I pulled over at a park and ride just before the freeway entrance ramp to perform the steps to register the TPMS sensors.
    1. I turned the engine off and then restarted the truck.
    2. I pushed the button in the cab three times and the dash lightbegan flashing.
    3. After a minute the dash light stopped flashing, turned solidyellow and the tire pressure screen on the heads up menu read “Recalibration in processplease wait” or something to that affect.

In order for the recalibration to work the tires have to be in motion. I had tried the initialization process a couple of weeks ago and since it can’t be done when the truck is in motion, I did not try it before I started driving to avoid messing up the registration process.
    4. I started driving and kept the tire pressure screen on the heads up menu up so that I could see when/if it would show the tire pressure readings.

After driving 45mph or above continuously for 35-40 miles, the tire pressure readings all popped up, the “recalibration in progress…” message disappeared and the dash light went away.

I drove for another 10-15 miles on the freeway and then stopped at the gas station. Shutoff and then restarted the truck and the dash light did not come on and the display did not have any messages. The tire pressures weren’t showing on the display while I was still parked, but did read once I began driving (that is normal I believe).

I drove 10 highway miles to my house and the tire pressures were still reading correctly, no warning messages showed up and no dash lights came on.

I’m not sure if I need to go through the initialization process (press and hold cab button until dash light blinks three times) or what, but I’m going to let it ride unless it stops reading the sensors.

Moral of the story is read the manual and don’t assume the tire center or dealership service department knows what it says, even if the dealership states that it is a complicated 2-1/2 hour process.

I’m not counting my chickens, but it is a step in the right direction for the truck to be reading TPMS sensors that are from a different truck originally without the ID numbers being entered manually.

I am not an expert - not even an amateur. TPMS is very confusing.
My understanding is that you need to have match the sensor to fit the correct truck year AND the sensor model that fits your wheels. The difference in the various TPMS sensor models for the same year is the angle. My local parts department pulled them out and showed me that they have a different angle to fit in different wheels but the electronics are the same. The 42607-0C091 TPMS sensor is for the BBS forged wheels (and probably others).

I need to know which sensors to get for 18” steelies and a 2020 push button start truck. The nipple angle is different for the steel wheels.

I would go to your local parts department and get the correct part number then order from Lewis.

Not sure any of the trucks that come with steelies have push button start and vice versa.

Understood but if you have a sensor that is the proper angle that works with the smart button then I think those will work. I do not think the material of the wheel is a factor. -- But again I am no expert.

@Ellis_McPickle Forget my advice on asking the local parts guy. Mine will not register. I may have been given bad advice by the local parts guy.

Well this is very frustrating, I had discount tire switch out the steel 18 inch wheels over to the 18 inch alloy wheels that come on trd offroad truck. They used the tpms sensors from the oem steel wheels and eveything was fine for about 15 miles then I get the malfunction message and tire low light. Go back the next day they rescan the tires and everything is fine for about 400 miles but today I get the malfunction and tire light again. What I am not understanding is why the malfunction after this much time? They showed the pressure and acted fine both the first time and second time reset by discount tire.

I read somewhere on this forum that the TPMS sensors from steel rims aren’t compatible with aluminum rims. Something about the angle of the sensors. I’m not sure how that effects the pressure readings unless your tires are actually low because the sensors do not seal against the rim due to the differing angles.

Do a search for switching TPMS from steel to aluminum rims and you should find the information you need.

They can be installed but you have to rotate them due to the angle. The issue according to my local 4x4 shop is that for people that have done this, some sensors have been broken from the bead breaker on the tire machines hitting them.

Not sure where what I typed went but any way,it says A malfunction in the tire pressure warning system has been detected. Do not rely on this system. Contact your Toyota dealer in order to have your vehicle inspected.

If I remember correctly, that was the initial error that I got when i swapped wheels and took my OEM sensors away from the truck. I think I cleared the message itself and the light remained on until I got the new sensors to register. What does it show on your pressure screen? just --- for each wheel?

It shows no psi and then says tire pressure warning system malfunction.

I have a 2020 and I recently bought 2021 trail edition wheels with stock TPMS sensors. I’m hope this works. Above and the manual reminder below helped the most and is appreciated.

It should work no problem with the model years involved. I haven’t had one problem since I went through the process and created the post.

Does the Trail Edition have a key or push to start ignition? That would be the only area that would concern me as they each use a different sensor

Thats a good question... I’ll ask the fellow member who sold them. I assumed that all 2021 models were push to start. Every model 2020 that I test drove were all push to start

I've been reading for days and I can't find a solid answer. Shame on Toyota for this b.s. I have a 2020 SR5 Double Cab 4x4 with 18" steel wheels. I had Discount Tire install my 27/60R20 Nitto Ridge Grappler on a 20x9 and install new (aftermarket) sensors. They never picked up, scanner couldn't find them, so they ordered me a new set (OEM
42607-0C091). This time the dash shows "Tire Pressure Recalibrating Please Wait until Complete". I had the Assistant Manager and a Tech at DT do the reprogram 3 times each. I've taken it to the Toyota Dealership and they've scanned them and tried. I've taken it to Tire Engineers. I've done the reset button 3 times, get it to blink, drove 10 miles at 50 mph 5 different times. They absolutely will not pick up. What am I doing wrong? And why is this not more user friendly than this? Can these sensors be cloned? I was told the sensors from my steel wheels won't work in my Alloy 20s because the angle is different.

    Holy thread resurrection!
I purchased four new 42607-0C091 TPMS sensors based on the advice of three dealer parts departments. I have never been able to get them to register - although I have only driven about 1000 miles with them.
After letting this issue sit there and simmer (and seeing the flashing light) I finally gave up and went to the stealership. No one knew anything about how to register TPMS sensors or the "new" process implemented 2018+. After they played with the sensors, they finally submitted it to Toyota on their special Toyota Connect program. Toyota responded that 42607-06030 is the correct TPMS for a 2020 smart key Tundra. Kudos to @thomasbus337 who knows more about it than anyone at any dealer. However, the dealer charged me nothing and provided a free oil change even though my two years expired.
I will very shortly have four 42607-0C091 sensors available for one lucky forum member.

Question for the TPMS gurus. I'm installing the TRD Forged 22" rims (years available 2010 - 2015) on my 2021 Tundra. These rims require the TPMS-20 degree sensors, as opposed to the normal 40 degree TPMS. Having trouble finding that spec for the Keyless entry push start Tundras.

If anyone can find the part number, would be greatly appreciated.

This is the part number I can find, but stops at 2017 Tundras. Does include the 2021 Sienna....

    42607-0C070 TPMS 20-Degree. With 20 degree angle.

Ok...I called multiple Toyota Parts Departments and they confirmed that for a 2021 Tundra Platinum, the TPMS sensor number is 42607-02050. had to call multiple dealers because that part number online does not state it fits a Tundra lol

Anyways, I'm getting a set of 4 from https://www.shoptpms.com/ I spoke with him and he confirmed that the 20 degree sensor they have will fit lots of different models, he just needed the part number that fit my VIN so he could program it in. Fingers crossed this works

Just be aware that the newer Toyotas don't like aftermarket sensors.

I'm crossing my fingers they work, since the guy on the other end sounded like he knew what he was talking about. Especially making sure he had the correct part-number for my truck. He's actually the one that asked me to call Toyota Parts to verify against my vin. Said he just needed to program the right one n.

The part number you referenced looks like a rubber stem with a tpms snap lock. This is exactly what my oem once look like on my 21 Limited.
Keep us posted on your outcome. Was the price a lot cheaper?
