    Hello All-

I know what you're all thinking, Toyota's don't break down, so warranties are for suckers, but this being my first NEW vehicle ever, and knowing I will most likely keep this truck for many years, I bought it.

It is called "Platinum" coverage, its a bumper to bumper warranty for 7 years or 125,000 miles.
0 deductible, roadside assist, rental car, and transferable. The cost was $1,900.

Was just curious if anyone purchased an extended warranty for their new Tundra?

If so, how much was it?

Also, how was Toyota if you ever needed to use it, did they stall, make excuses, or did they do all the necessary work without hassle...

I have 60 days to cancel the warranty for a full refund....kind of on the fence about it

    Thanks

Be glad you did. As good as Toyotas are, they are mechanical and will fail.

I had Toyota Care to 100k and glad I did. I would be 2400.00 thinner in the wallet.

Jdon, I definitely think it's worth it, but I think you can get a little better price too. Seems the guys are getting a better price through that guy on the other thread. But it seems you can add it anytime before the factory warranty expires so I would just wait. You never know what will happen in the next 3 years.

They're like any insurance, they gamble it'll never cost them the cost of the warranty to fix your vehicle and you gamble it will. Look at all the cash you've put out for your auto or home policy, think you'll ever get it back? They are in business to make money and if they didn't make money off them they wouldn't sell them. Personally I don't buy them and if they push it on me after me saying no once, they lost a deal and I go shopping again. At least that's my opinion.

Are you sure about the 125,000 miles? I was recently told Toyota didn't have any programs over 100,000 (which is still awesome).

Thanks guys! I'm signing up for a 8-year/75,000-mile TFS VSA due to the low annual mileage that I use my truck.

A personal side benefit for me is that I can cancel the private roadside assistance program we had before purchasing new vehicles (and yes, I've used them several times). My TFS VSA will cost less per year than my previous roadside assistance program subscription did. I know this isn't the case for most, but thought I'd pass this on.

I've never bought an extended warranty before, but decided to with this most recent purchase. I got a 10year/100K mile bumper to bumper at the time of purchase that also includes coverage for the custom wheels and pro-rated road hazard coverage for the tires. I don't expect to use it, and really hope I don't have to...just like homeowners' insurance....... BUT I also have full coverage insurance on my motorhome that I didn't want to use and had to use it twice in 2 months due to tire failures that did a LOT of damage to the fender well and the side of the RV. I believe the extended warranty is well worth the money, especially if you consider the price of a transmission or engine. Probably the best perk of the purchase was a 8 year maintenance coverage. At their established intervals, all fluid/oil/filter changes as well as engine/cabin air filters are included along with tire rotation and balancing for the next 8 years of ownership. Not a bad deal!! Wish I could have gotten them to throw in a wash/wax every 6 months for that Black Beauty I bought......

I know what you mean. I hadn't had a flat tire in several years but in the last 6 months, I've had two on my Tundra. First one was while on vacation during the summer in 100 degree weather, so I was glad ToyotaCare came to my aid and changed to the spare. Discount Tire was not far, so they repaired the tire which had a nail in it. Instead of paying for the repair, I took out tire coverage which includes free rotations and then had another flat just before Thanksgiving! Several years ago, my wife damaged a wheel on her 2001 Trans Am which cost a lot to replace. So, when I bought her a new Honda, we included all maintenance with tire/wheel coverage just like you did. So, I do understand.

So you want swirl marks in that black beauty from the automatic car washes that dealers use?

I got my 7/100k platinum for $1200 - which is just a few bucks above cost for my region. They offered I believe an 8/125k for $600 more but I turned that down.

Thanks for the tag, hadn't seen this thread :)

You can buy out of state which is a nice savings on tax alone - not a lot of people know that or even have that thought cross their mind.

I emailed a total of 43 dealerships IIRC,
My best deal came from the gentlemen below.

    Brian Hyman
    Finance Manager
    Pederson Toyota in Colorado
    970.223.3100
    Bhyman@PedersenToyota.com

    Tell him Oliver sent you.

I posted his info over a few different forms already, there have been so many people bought the extended warranty through Brian and they're extremely happy with his pricing. He has such a huge amount of emails that come in on a daily basis that it might take him a few days to finally get you a reply back but it'll be worth your time.

I do not post prices because every situation is different it's all based off what options you have what vehicle you have and just out of respect I wouldn't never post pricing.

I know in IL for instance I was exempt from sales tax on the warranty. I have heard good things on ^^ pricing.

Yeah, I was worried about that when I bought the truck and they said they were "detailing" it before they brought it around for me. Turns out, they WERE actually hand-detailing it. They have an outside contractor that is on-site at the dealership to wash/detail their vehicles at the time of sale, as well as to maintain the vehicles on the lot. I was impressed!

I have a policy of never buying on anything. If I really think I need it then I do not buy the product. I told the finance guy up front how I feel about them and if he tried to sell me one he could talk to the back of my head because I was turning around. He tried anyway and even through in some trickery. He asked "what if I could lower your interest rate by .4". I replied with "are you going to offer that without the warranty". He said "sure was". I said fine I will take the lower rate and you can keep your warranty.

I just exchanged emails with Brian and he gave me about 9 different option from 6yrs/75K miles all the way up to 8yrs/125K miles. prices ranged from $550-$1500 depending on which option you went with. This was for a '17 4X4 CM Limited. I don't know if prices differ depending on the model. Here is what he said was covered......"The coverage that I offer is the Toyota Platinum Vehicle Service Agreement. It is the official Toyota-branded "extended warranty" that is effectively full comprehensive, covering everything short of normal wear-and-tear and cosmetic items. It also includes full roadside assistance with both rental car and hotel reimbursement, and carries $0 deductible." I am usually not an extended warranty guy but if I can get an extra 5yr for $750 that is worth A LOT of peace of mind for me. If I was paying a couple of thousand for it I probably wouldn't do it. Just my .02

    Scott,

For $750 you got 5 years and how many miles over the 3yr/36 month that came with the truck? So 8 years/ ? miles

    Thanks

Its since in service, not in addition to.

So a 5 year gives you 2 more once initial warranty expires

He might have gotten another 5 years, meaning an 8 year plan?

    yes, it is a total 8yr coverage or 75K miles for around $750. There is 8yr/100K for around $1,100 and 8yr/125K for around $1500. 8 years= the original 3yr + extra 5yrs.

I got the 8yr/75K plan which "includes full roadside assistance with both rental car and hotel reimbursement" as stated above by @996scott, which cost me a little less than what I was paying for AAA roadside assistance alone (for the same period of time). And due to personal historical events, I will always carry some sort of roadside assistance, so this makes sense for my situation.
