Dropped off truck for the frame check today. They gave me a new 4 door SR5 Tacoma 4x4 to cruise until my truck is finished. Not bad but no Tundra. Feels so small with no ass ;)

Picked up my Tundra today after having the frame undercoating done. First off they got that crap all over my coilovers and rear shocks. As well my Trd sway bar. It stinks as well. I got the call yesterday morning at 9:30 saying it was done. Picked it up today at about 4 pm and the undercoating is still pretty wet. I'm talking touch it and it's all over you. I had to clean that crap off all my suspension parts. I am concerned it won't dry fast enough to cure for its supposed to rain a bunch tomorrow. Anyone have any experience with this undercoating and how long will it take for it to dry fully. I wonder if I even should have had it done. Wasn't that bad in the first place. But it can't hurt I suppose. On top of that they hit me for $79 for an oil change which I thought was quite more than I normally pay.

The drying process takes about a month.

The more you drive it, Or warmer weather will speed up the process.

    Can’t complain about my treatment.

07-09? I think. My frame was not bad.I guess for the low miles I have. Plus previous owner I believe garaged it. I just did it because it's covered and for piece of mind.

2 personal experiences with Toyota and rust.

1st was my 1999 4runner Limited. Frame was replaced by Toyota 1 year before I bought the truck. Came with all the Toyota paperwork to back it up. The 4runner was showroom condition, limited, every option in the book at the time. Apparently that was why Toyota decided to replace the frame instead of buy it back, made more financial sense for them.

2nd was a close friends Tacoma, want to say '98. They paid him $14k toward the purchase of a new Toyota in 2006, cash payout would have been $9k-ish.

My 2010 Tundra looks good right now. No surface rust anywhere.

Anyone have definite dates, years, that this new rust bulletin actually covers? Is it a NEW rust bulletin?

To the guy that asked about the frame spray and drying time - it never really completely dries. I've had 2 Taco's that were sprayed and years after spray you can still peel off the soft coating with your finger nail, (i'm in Illinois).

To the other guy that said they were not going to take it in because nothing looks bad underneath - I would advise to take it in if you received a letter and get in the system that it was officially checked by Toyota. From the Taco experience - at some point they will no longer cover the frame problem. Originally was 15 years on 1st gen taco's, however, if they inspected the Taco and sprayed it - it was an additional "extended time frame" after that inspection/spray they would still honor the frame recall if it rusted.

There is a TON of info about this on the Tacoma forums.

I worked a Toyota dealership for 25 yrs in the body shop. They inspect the frame if there is a rust hole 3/8" they replace frame. Scale rust they wire brush it spray two types of rust protection only the frame outside black and inside yellow the last recall 2000 to 2006 they gave uou a 10 year warranty on the frame.

Hi I'm new here I've had my 2000 tundra for about 4 years now and I love it the body is in good condition but of course the Frame has about 5 holes in it. I took it to my Toyota dealer today and they said the recall is over is that True ?
    Thank you John (2000Toy)

Its not over. Go to this website.
    https://www.nhtsa.gov/recalls
Call Toyota and get a recall number, then go to your local dealership.

I had the recall on my 07 frame a year ago and rust is starting to bleed through the undercoat they put on it. I have an appointment to have it inspected tomorrow morning. Has anyone else had this problem?

Just surface rust where it is double plated. Nothing to worry about.
