Exactly...just don’t open the door and expect it to stay on. POS system.

There is a bypass you can wire in as an interrupter for the door issue...Rob Motive and Gear Runner on YouTube have a pretty big following if you want to hit them up

Links? These guys have a ton of videos and none refer to this bypass in the title.

Check the build link in my signature.
After a shit-ton of digging, this is what I found on the Toyota Connected Services support site (screen shot)
    upload_2020-12-30_21-9-4.jpg

    Direct link
    https://toyotaaudioandconnectedserv...econnect/5a6a6b30-a464-11ea-b783-1bef36c335ab

Just checked 2020 Tundra and the same thing.

    Go here:
    https://toyotaaudioandconnectedservicessupport.com/toyota/home

    1. Enter model and year
    2. Hit "Get Started"
    3. Pick "Remote Connect"
    4. Then "How to Use"
    5. Then "Key Fob"
Guess for me, I've got 10 more months to decide if I want to keep their half-baked remote start, or start looking at a proper third-party setup that doesn't shut itself off when I open the door, and doesn't require me to pay $80/year. I do like having shit on my keyring though...

Or Lock x3, hold the 3rd, parking lights will flash and viola.

@RainMan_PNW , I thought even the aftermarket remote start options still shut off when you open the door? Thought I read something about that on here.

    It worked! Appreciate it everyone.

Also... You're pretty new here. Try the Konami code... See what happens :spy:
I'm a bit of a nerd so I am thinking I may be able to figure out how to bypass the door shutoff. However, I am a tad concerned with a clean way to drive away with the vehicle running (aka start up sequence).

Yeah, that's the risk. I was able to put my truck in reverse and back out of my driveway with the fob in the garage. Toyota's only "protection" is the open-door-stop-motor logic.

My F150 was the correct logic. Auto-start the truck and if you put your foot on the brake to shift the transmission, the truck shut off if the FOB wasn't in the cab.

Plus, you could lock the truck while it was running...

The remote start on our 2020 ES has never worked. Fob or App. The Lexus dealership won't even call me back about it anymore, lol. Meh.

Did anyone actually get their free extra month? My remote connect shut off after the 1 year, apparently the free month was just for the safety connect even though the email does not say this at all.
Pretty shitty that I’m forced to pay $80/year to use my remote start on this 50k truck but they’ve got me now...

This reminds me of monthly subscriptions to use a computer program. I long for the day when you could download a program, and use it forever, and not be nickeled and dimed like they do now. Same with this stupid connected services.:annoyed:

On one hand, I agree. But on the other hand, I don't have to spend possibly a few hundred bucks for software that I only need occasionally. I can subscribe for a month, use the software for what I need, and cancel. And I never have to worry about using an old version.

But for the software I use all the time? Yes, it can be a pain to have to renew it every year.

I had a viper alarm/start on my f150. Was awesome. I wired it all in myself. You can wire them to kill engine if you open door. Open hood. Open tailgate. Step on brake. Or not kill engine. The brake kill is the best Imo for anti theft and not pissin you off.. Plus they have phone Ap ones.. Mind worked a mile away. For my work. By the time I got to parking lot it was warm. I wish they had compatibility with 2020 tundra

So this is interesting. I literally just noticed that my truck sale sticker says that the TRD Off-Road package

"includes 1 year of Remote Connect and 10 years of Safety Connect."

It's telling me it's going to expire in 4 days, but salesman said "no worries, I'll ensure that's taken care of."

    NICE.

You all should be good. As stated earlier in the thread, as long as you have any connected service active - the key fob will work to remote start. There was a glitch in their system that was turning off key fob functionality once remote connect expired, but they fixed it back in January/February. Most of the higher trims include 10 years of safety connect which will give you 10 years of key fob remote start. That does mean though, that after 10 years, if you don't start paying for one of the connected services, the key fob will no longer remote start.

I saw the sticker that came with my truck, "Press this button to cancel service." So I did, got some lady on the phone. Cancelled the service, tore off the sticker. Problem solved.

Here’s another twist: I went ahead and subscribed for another year of remote services, but then received the email on how to activate. Unfortunately for me, the activation process requires entering a code in a menu on the stock head unit.

I replaced my stock head unit with a Kenwood DNR1007XR, so now I am hoping the dealership can activate remote services without needing to put back in the stock head unit. If not, I will either have to get a refund of my $80 or lose it.

Does anyone know if you don’t renew the safety connect if Toyota would still assist in finding your car if it’s stolen?

I struggle to understand the thought process of some of these new subscription models. Ford has two tiers of NAV now. "Connected" which means you lose all Nav after 3 years and just have a moving map with no guidance, and "Connected/BUILT IN" which means you will have Nav after the 3 year subscription but lose real time traffic and map updates.

With the prevalence of Apple Carplay and people being able to mirror google maps on the screen, you would think manufacturers would want to cut the price of the Nav option and offer something that sets it apart from google maps to make it a more attractive option. Instead they're going to a subscription model for something you used to just have to pay one time for, where most people will let it lapse and just use their phone.

Or remote start. How many people are just going to go aftermarket when that subscription expires?

Manufacturers are making you pay subscriptions for things they used to give you for a one time charge, most of which can be replaced by non-subscription based aftermarket options. Unless there is a 30 thousand foot view only seen from the boardroom that I am missing here it seems like in a year or 3 when they see next to zero renewals some of this is likely to be rolled back. Although I now wonder if there will be software blocks to aftermarket remote starts that people discover down the line when they start shopping around.

It's funny to me how we allowed the "conveniences" of smart phone technology to be something we couldn't live without and ultimately invited (almost begged) folks and companies, who have openly admitted to monitoring and recording us in our homes, conversations, etc., into our personal lives and information so we could have those conveniences... and now here we are again w/the same crap being pushed on us in new vehicles, yet people are worried about the cost of monthly service not what is being captured or can be done on the back end w/all that technology/infrastructure.

With a court order but Toyota wont give the information to the owner unless they pay for the service. Someone just recently posted about their truck getting stolen but Toyota not locating it for them.

Really? Well that Fucken sucks surprised they can’t throw that in after spending 65k on the damn truck.
I haven’t heard of much tundras (newer models) being stolen out here. So might just skip out on that feature.

As a property crimes detective, I would say that it depends. A LOT of the companies have told us it is not possible when we've called to ask. Which pretty much ends it right there. If auto theft is high in your area, I would pay the $8/month or whatever it is.

I'll try to find the post to see if Toyota remedied the situation. My comments are anecdotal vs. the experience of a LEO as given above. I'll echo @Ellis_McPickle 's suggestion to pay the sub. You also have the option to go third party and get a tracker that plugs in to the OBD port but those come with a steep subscription fee as well; they can readily be unplugged too.
