Do all of the 2020 tundra's have the auto start feature from an actual key fob. I have a 2020 sport and the only way for me to auto start my truck is with the App. My key fab has no auto start button, just lock and unlock and panic.

For Toyota Connect, I'm in. I spent $60K on this truck, so the Connect fee doesn't worry me.

If you do not use the free trial the Fob will not work as it had never been initialized and they shut it all down.
If however you run and let the trial expire, your fob will continue to work.

I sell them - this is how it's worked (at least here in Ontario Canada)

I was thinking a year, but not sure. I had Toyota shut mine down after a few weeks.

Interesting. I used my trial for a few weeks, but never used the FOB to start the truck (didn't know about it). I used the app a few times and realized it was horrible, so had Toyota shut down the service. Maybe because I didn't try it with the FOB while my service was active is why mine won't start? It never has worked (just tried it again).

I think we have all flavors of responses now. "Never worked", "always works", "think it worked in the past", and now "If you had it, you'll keep it; if you didn't get it, you're SOL". So we're just proving the Internet Theory that any evidence can be found to support any view.

Since remote start is standard equipment I would have the dealer look at it under warranty.

12 months, but for some reason they tossed me an extra two months a few weeks before mine was set to expire.

My key FOB works to remote start but have to be pretty close to the truck. The range is abysmal. I never activated the remote services.

If you asked them to shut off the service, you effectively told them to kill it however. If left to have just expired, that should have left the fob active.

Depending on how you ask the question, also determines the answers - or leaving out key elements of the story may also change things =P

Key fob remote start is roughly the same range as the unlock/lock function as it's on the same fob.
Either needing to purchase the long range remote, which includes a special fob solely for that - or yes the active remote app feature.

I really don't care to keep the OnStar-like services but I do enjoy the in-car WiFi. I recently paid $200 for unlimited data for a year which is not bad when you look at the cost of a standalone hotspot device from AT&T or Verizon. BUT, if you have to keep all the other services up to date in order to use the WiFi, that's going to be a problem for me.

True story. I love the touchless entry and locking, to the point that I never take my key out of my pocket. Grab handle to unlock, touch to lock. Otherwise, yes, the remote start range would be the same as the FOB. Supposedly, you can put the fob under your chin and open your mouth or some voodoo like that to improve the range. I always figured that was an adult version of a playground prank to make you look like a fool, but some swear it works.

LOL so when we look for cars on the lot - you can SEE the car and it won't unlock and if you do press the fob up against you, your body seems to slightly increase the range and I swear it then opens while I stand on the same spot.

I also thought I was being setup the first time it was told to me

LOL seriously?? :facepalm:It's called Smart Entry and, though it isn't really that smart, is a nice convenience feature. Your truck may or may not have it. Look for the three little lines on the driver and passenger door handles.

This actually does work, and it can increase the range by 2-3x. I checked it out thoroughly when I used to have to walk >100 yards from the building door to my truck at work.

Yup, you should have it if you have the 2020 1794. If you touch the spot, opposite of the key hole, where those little lines are - it'll lock.

And...wait for it.... its on both the driver and passenger doors! Actually on my 17 Tacoma it was only on the driver door. The passenger didn't have the lock feature. I know it is now on both doors on the 20 and 21 Tacoma.

Has anyone let the remote services expire and gotten a better offer to renew/come back because of it? Basically like XM radio and all the cable companies do in order to keep you as a customer.

Went to start up my truck with the App this morning since everything was iced over, and noticed my subscription had expired. I walked out to my truck and tried three times to start it from the FOB with zero success. I've started it often with the FOB with no problem since activating my Toyota Connected Services, but this morning - it did nothing (same issue I had prior to activating my services). I'll try again when I get out of work, but as for now:

I CAN CONFIRM THAT REMOTE START FROM THE KEY FOB IS DISABLED WHEN YOUR TOYOTA CONNECTED SERVICES EXPIRES.

I can't speak for those that either never activated their services and it works (Maybe the dealership forgot to disable to demo mode), or for those that called and cancelled the services - but I can't for now, confirm that in my situation. The Remote Start from the Key FOB was disabled.

My 2020 1794 is now a year old and my remote start has quit working with the fob. I never signed up for anything or downloaded an app just always used the fob. Funny thing is I got an email the other day saying my "services" have been extended to 1/23/21. Remote start worked fine earlier this month and now nothing.

I got 5 years of the connect service through my dealer when I bought the truck. I didn’t really care about it at the time but have grown fond of the Auto start via app now that it’s cold . My work is huge and there is no way the key fob works from my office .

that is weird my dealer has specifically said the fob will still work even if you don’t renew the connect service.

The dealership I purchased my truck through didn't even know you could use the key fob to remote start.

Like I said, I'll try again when I get out of work - but I've done it a lot of times with no issue, so it's pretty suspect that on the day it expires, I can't get it to start with the FOB.
