    Was trying to order Bilstein 6112's and 5160's from 4 wheel parts who is asking me about "top hats". Is that something needed now? They're charging me $60 to set the 6112's at 2.5", but I am not sure about the top hats.

    Since their labor is stupid expensive, $120 hour, I'm having all this stuff bought individually and then having my local tire shop do the install at $70 hour.

    Top hat is required if you are not re-using the old ones. In this case yes, since you are having them pre-assemble, assuming your truck is not in their shop.

    For 4x4, there are spacer kit out there to drop the front differential to avoid extreme angle drive shafts and damage to CV boots and joints. Not typically required for 2.5" lift or below but cheap insurance.

    For those at 1.9" on the 6112s with a shim on the driver side only, did you use shackles as well for a slight rake? I just installed the front this week, and will install the rear 5160s with toytec shackles, but I don't know if I should do 1" or 1.5" on the shackles. I want the rear to be slightly higher than the front for towing and hauling, but nothing crazy. Any help with pictures of this setup on a flat surface would be greatly appreciated.

    I'll probably order the superbumps while I am at it. My 6112s came preassembled so I don't remember seeing any washers for the bumpstops from Bilstein. Are these really necessary? I see Wheelers sells a 1/4" or 3/8" spacers to go with their superbumps. Would a 1/4" work?

    My 6112's are set on the third ring (1.9 and no shims) and I run the toytec shackles at 1". Don't have any straight on side pics and I have an extra 300 lbs in the back from the canopy....the truck sits slightly nose down.

    @32vsnake Do you wish you had it on the 1.5" setting at all? I plan to eventually have a RTT over the bed for when my wife and I go camping. Truck looks really clean man.

    no sir, I have not had any TSS issues. I did end up adding Toytec shackles in the rear, so I have very slight rake now.

    I did drive the truck for a few weeks with a little bit of squat due to getting about 2.5" of front lift from the bilsteins, but still had no issues with TSS

    Noob alert!
    Does both the spring label Bilsteins need to be oriented to face outward towards the tire or do I follow the markings on the top hat of where the old spring use to be? Because if I did follow the mark then one of the springs with the label would be facing toward the engine bay?

    I’m going to get into this in the near future if it stays warm. I think your comment is incorrect based on the instructions in the link?


    (1) At the front of the arm, loosen the bolt head facing forward.
    (2) At the rear of the arm, loosen the nut facing rearward.
