Perhaps I should add a cross draw .410 revolver with rock salt loads to my belt just for this.

Though I like the thought process, legally you are just as liable as if you used regular ammo. Same rules apply for the most part (might vary by location) so you don't want to use these in any situation you wouldn't be justified using lethal force. It's horse shit.

Agreed. I have been through the courses and you're right, but good ol' Texas law states:

Sec. 9.42. DEADLY FORCE TO PROTECT PROPERTY.

A person is justified in using deadly force against another to protect land or tangible, movable property:

    (1) if he would be justified in using force against the other under Section 9.41; and

    (2) when and to the degree he reasonably believes the deadly force is immediately necessary:

    (A) to prevent the other’s imminent commission of arson, burglary, robbery, aggravated robbery, theft during the nighttime, or criminal mischief during the nighttime; or

    (B) to prevent the other who is fleeing immediately after committing burglary, robbery, aggravated robbery, or theft during the nighttime from escaping with the property; and

    (3) he reasonably believes that:

    (A) the land or property cannot be protected or recovered by any other means; or

    (B) the use of force other than deadly force to protect or recover the land or property would expose the actor or another to a substantial risk of death or serious bodily injury.

Yeah but I'd hobble em. There's that high probability I'd have to justify in court. Civil litigation is where you usually get strung up

This happened to me back in Dec 2021. It costs $2163.65 to replace/repair at the dealership here in the bay area. Absolute BS to deal with and put $250 for the deductible.

Having been previous leo in texas , the phrase that will get you on this one is "(2) when and to the degree he reasonably believes the deadly force is immediately necessary:" and section b3. With section b3 youll notice theres an "and" in there meaning all of the section has to be true for it to be authorized..... basically unless someones life is in danger, dont go down this rabbit hole

Good info. How would this affect something that is less lethal? Something like rock salt rounds, paper rounds, bean bag rounds, etc.?

According the Energy Information Administration we are a top producer of oil. I would say, based on that information, that domestic oil production isn’t really the issue at hand.

Fact. What’s even more strange is that scrappers drain fuel from all the scrap cars and dump it in 50 gallon barrels. That fuel is hazmat that they don’t want to deal with as they have to pay to get rid of it, so the crackheads could probably get gas for free from those yards if they asked for it.

before you ask, no you don’t want to put it in your truck as it’s gas from all kinds of cars from wrecks derelict vehicles with bad gas in it.

That said for the crack-mobiles it’s just fine.

You guys all are going the wrong direction. It's simple. Fling a match at them, then call a news reporter immediately. Let them know that this guy was drilling your gas tank and the fool didn't use any penetrating oil, so the bit got hot and ignited the fuel. Terrible way to go, but his own doing. Insurance will cover the truck and the world will be a better place.

All true, but as our instructor explained, you have to decide if using lethal force just to protect property is worth all the legal hassles that will follow. No doubt when your life is in danger, do what you have to do. But if you run out to the driveway to fill a guy with holes because he's rummaging through your console, the legal battles will be unpleasant even if you are acquitted in the legal AND civil proceedings.
