You don't have mud or gravel in florida? I know you have hurricanes...

There is no place in the world where you don't need 4wd. Most people just like to live in denial about it.

A FWD car is MAYBE, marginally acceptable.... in some places. A 2WD pickup is worse than useless when SHTF.

The dealer had the hood and roof repainted, one of his guys, so question the quality of paint.

I have seen rusted out vehicles, more trucks than cars, down here and it is usually 1 of 3 things.
The obvious one is they came from the north.
2 is people who live practically on the beach, but usually not so bad because people wash there cars.
3 is trucks that haul boats and launch at the public parks, they literally are backing the boat into the ocean and did not rinse the truck with fresh water after. Most boat owners are aware of this and do rinse.

Mud and gravel in Florida, of course, this truck will not be going off road, have farm/ranch vehicle(s) for that purpose.

I have a 4WD with a real LSD in the rear, but no lockers... it's my SHTF go anywhere truck, BUT I also have a 2WD truck with Toyota's electronic (fake) LSD that will get in & out of places few would venture. Driving experience & tire choice make all the difference in the world - the real world.

I've gone without it all my life. Some of us stay out from in front of the fan. If I need more traction, I'll throw some fat chicks in the bed with a a few buckets of KFC for their trouble.

I felt the same way, no need for 4wd in Florida but since I did have a 4wd truck and found it to be very useful in the heavy rain we get down here. I'm in a 2wd truck now and feel the difference when it rains hard. And if you do like off road adventures, there is plenty of area's that you can enjoy

Traditional 4WD is over-rated, but a sophisticated AWD is the SHIT!

I've never need to shoot anyone either...yet I still carry every time.

Oh well, if it wasn't for most people choosing to have a victim mindset I wouldn't have a job so I shouldn't complain.

Only time I've ever claimed victimization is when I fill out my income taxes, see my social security withholding, or get a property tax statement.

Cold winter night with no heater...interesting dilemma if you happen to knock one up. Guess you move further north and buy a 4WD. They don't do well in the heat

I have never looked at vehicles as investments, if I did I would ride a bicycle because no vehicle you plan to drive daily will hold value well long term, not without reinvesting (repairs and maintenance).

I bought my truck February 2008 for $13,950 which was pretty low at the time for an 03 with 50k in California. Comparable Tacomas were fetching $27k at the time.. I am coming up on 12 years of ownership and to date the money I have spent strictly on keeping it alive (minus fluids, tires and gas) is:
    Timing belt/water pump job $1100
    Brake booster/master cylinder $500
Rear diff $550 (not counting upgrades)
One set of rear drums and shoes $250
Two sets of rotors, three sets of pads $700
Four sets of spark plugs $250

Out of all those items the only ones that were unexpected was the rear diff and the brake booster/cylinder. The rest is regular maintenance that would be needed on any other vehicle. I'm over 230k and have no uneasy feelings about hopping into my truck at peak of Summer and driving to Vegas or San Francisco or into the snowy mountains. These trucks don't fail often and don't need much, just watch for frame rot and timing belt and you'll have a long lasting vehicle.

Long term value for sure. Skinny chicks are always looking for their next meal. Fat chicks know what they've got and stick with it.

Temporary hype or long term value?

BBW- They might not live too long, but they are worth the hype in my opinion.
1st Gen Tundras- keep the frame alive and they will keep their value.
Just my opinion... Get a 1st Gen tundra in the double cab variety and stuff it with all the BBW you can find and afford. Skip KFC and hit up the Chick-fil-A. You only live once so splurge a little!
