I had been driving a 2010 4Runner, and in 2016, was set on a Tacoma. A friend of mine who owns a Tundra tried talking me into getting a Tundra, but I couldn't be persuaded - the new Gen 3 Tacoma was in my mind, the perfect size, it was sexy looking, and got good gas mileage. Two miserable years later I ditched that awful thing and got a 2018 Tundra, and it's damn near perfect. I love it. I should have listened to my friend in 2016, it would have saved me a lot of frustration. Oh well, live and learn.

Agreed. I had an ‘05 4Runner and my Tundra gets the same mileage. All depends on how you drive it. The room in the crew max is awesome if you have kids.

What are good options for aftermarket remote start and push button start?

Sorry, I haven’t really looked into it, but I’m confident there are some good options out there.

to be fair I think the 3rd gen owners are just more "computer/internet savy" and tend to vent immediately on the forums. Makes it sound worst that it is. I see plenty of 3rd gens on the road here, they sell like hotcakes...and msrp close to $40K...jeez.

I'm 6'5" and had a 2018 Taco rental for 2 weeks while my 2018 Tundra SR5 was getting fixed from a rear end accident. I hated every minute of it. I could not wait to get back in a truck where I was comfortable and had actual power. Definitely get the Tundra. SR5 is best bang for your buck

Same here. I just finished a 2600 mile road trip. Consistent 20 MPG doing 65 to 70 MPH. My 2002 Tacoma got about 19 MPG under same conditions.

(Pay no attention to the Average Speed shown, this was just starting a new trip after stopping to refuel, but note the range of 532 miles. That's impressive)

Gen 3 tacos are maybe the best looking truck on the road right now (assuming at least 285s and suspension). Tundras with 35’s and fox/king/etc are a solid runner up.

Silverado’s square-danced fenders are full-on hoe-down material (2019’s ditch those ugly fenders FYI but then step it back again with some kind of vampire looking front bumper situation).

Rams are still trying to be 18-wheelers with that dumb hood lump. It actually looks ok on the 2500 cause it’s scaled down proportionately but on the 1500 it’s just funny lookin.

F150’s are just straight ugly AF... screw cabs look like friggin bullfrog guppies. THAT SAID... I drove one today and jesus, it’s a solid truck. Thing friggin MOVES (3.5L v6), and plenty of room in the cab. I’m ugly and strong... maybe I should get one just to match :).

    Tundra test drive soon...

I didn’t test drive the ford. Got scared by the price tag, then all the horror stories of the turbo related issues...

Screw cab  I using that from now on

I actually really, really like the look of F150's. They are incredibly nice, with plenty of amenities....and this is the problem. It seems like the Ecoboost motors are a complete crap-shoot. Some people have one that works fine for 10's of thousands of miles, others have blown turbos and major reliability issues starting right off the lot. I couldn't take that risk. The V8 that Ford uses seems really good, but now those trucks are only available in the 10 speed transmission, which I just don't trust, and which several co-workers of mine have heavily criticized. Those trucks are also heavily computerized, and the potential for spectacular software failures seems to be a very real one according to internet testimonials. Finally, the price tag was just too much.

So I'll stick with the Tundra. Ok, the pre-collision radar is prone to dumb behavior, but otherwise it's a rock solid, awesome truck.

If you like leather seats that are heated and the auto window up and down get the cement limited supercrew if not just get the sr5.
