The gas mileage in my Tundra is easily on par with my 2004 Tacoma. That was the last year of the Gen 1 Taco, with the old 3.4 V6.

I went with the Limited CM 4x4 just because I wanted leather, dual climate control (keeps the wife happy), the retracting rear window, and a sunroof. We purchased the base model Limited since I knew I'd be changing up the suspension and wheels later. Anything higher and you get that JBL sound system that's a bit more tedious to change up than the stock unit (and the JBL system still sucks).

I definitely prefer my tundra over my 3rd gen Tacoma. Do it. You won't regret it.

Cement is more rare, so you’ll be paying more for paint color (according to other posts around here with people asking “what to buy”).

Based on what everyone else here says:

Need to go for a higher trim level if you want dual zone climate control and/or sunroof. Most everything else can be added to the SR5 from the dealer or aftermarket for a reasonable price. I will add cooled seats to that list... those are pricy to add on ala carte (I added leather for under 1k and cooled seats would have been an extra 1.5-2k). Heated is easer to add he said.

Out side of that you could add what you’re talking about to any trim level.

The pro grille for the 2018s looks like some work to add. No trd pro for the 2018 model year, but people have some solutions for retrofitting the TSS (Toyota safety sense) sensor onto it, it’s just a lot more work and something to consider. That or wait for the 2019 honeycomb pro grille...

I traded in my '16 Taco OR 4x4 for a '16 Tundra OR 4x4. Love the extra room and amazing throttle response. Only draw backs I have are the sucky mpgs (pun intended) and no rear locker. Other than that, perfectly happy with the decision.

Welcome. I'm also 6'4" and sat in a Tacoma for about 5 seconds before I decided there wasn't enough room.

Like many here I also came from a Tacoma. Mine was a 2010 and MPG has not been much of a change. I was actually looking at getting a new Tacoma and test drove the Tundra instead. Will never go back. I have the Pro exhaust which is my favorite thing on the truck. Negatives of the truck are the radio is not great, the long-ass wheel base makes parking / turning in tight spaces interesting compared to the Tacoma. Otherwise no complaints. For someone your size you will be way more comfortable. Good luck!

Taco's are not as wide as a 1st or 2nd generation Tundra is inside the cab, that's a deal killer for me.

Yeah, taco interior is doable but kinda cramped if I’m being honest. Going to test drive this weekend.

Did the TSS pro grill mod to the taco... worked great. That said I did NOT like that damn windshield mounted camera protrusion thing... blocks a tall drivers view to keep the truck “safer” in a rare situation. I’d rather be able to “see” :)

You guys are epic - thanks for the input. I’ll keep you posted.

Easiest path will be a lemon refund. If they finally manage to fix the taco (which I don’t hate... it’s not her it’s me) on attempt #4 then I’ll be in big-hit trade in territory taking a ~$10k hit to get in a tundra. Can’t really even find an SR5 cement w/upgrade, but did find a couple deals on MGM’s which are pretty good looking trucks imho.

    Anyway thanks - appreciated:thumbsup:

Check your states lemon laws... I think in Texas you have to take it back 3 times for the same issue with no resolution...

    Good luck!!

Same here. I am currently on a road trip in the Tundra. Over the last 1200 miles I have averaged 18 and on the road I am getting right at 20 mpg at 65 mph. My 2002 Tacoma got 16 average and 20 highway.
Today was going over the mountain from TN to VA and I got 21 average at 65 mph.

    21? Wow.

My average is 11 or 12. Mostly my fault because I'm either driving in town at 35 mph with lights, or dragging my boat around.

I've seen 18 once, when I filled up the tank, got immediately on the interstate and set adaptive cruise control at 70.

I've only seen it once. Any MPG over 12 is like the albino tiger at the zoo... Many claim to have seen it, I've never really seen much of it, but if I ever do, it'll be cool.

Longer list than the wife needs to know about....
I have both a Tacoma and Tundra.
It really depends on your use if its worth upgrading.
If you are living in a city, you may want to consider the parking. Tundra is a little more difficult to find a good parking spot due to the size. I also don't worry about door dings in my Tacoma so...
If you are towing heavily, or spend a lot of time on the road, Tundra is going to be more comfortable.
If you do upgrade spend the money and get the 5.7.
If you upgrade, are married, and share a bank account LEAVE THIS SITE IMMEDIATELY, this modness could adversely impact your marriage.

I had a 36 mile trip the other day, it was probably half highway half city, I got a mixed 19.9 MPG. So close to the elusive 20....

Many of us have come from Tacomas to the Tundra. I've not heard of anybody going the other way around. Get the Tundra. 4x4 SR5 package in Colorado includes the 38 gallon gas tank, but different regions have different option packages/build options. I definitely love the towing power of the Tundra over the Tacoma, as well as the pure power and smooth transmission. My only complaint is that parking lots are too small.

I just added remote start to my 2018 yesterday. Used a kit from tech12volts.com. Got the Crimestopper (Fortin Evo One) and the mycar phone module for $334.

Owned new 2008, 2010, 2014 Tundras. Then 2016 Taco Sport; traded for 2017 Taco Sport manual. 16 Taco boiled trnx fluid backing 4200lb trailer uphill into my yard. Got 17 stick Taco, went to back trailer uphill into yard and with 1400 miles on odo wouldn't move an inch in reverse and smoked (literally) clutch. Have vasoline and rug burns from dealer for trading to new 2017 Tundra SR-5. Have installed Bilstein 4600, TRD front and back sway bars, 10 ply Hancook all terains. No longer corners like a Lincoln and likes to pull trailer. Trailer is 4200 lb HI-LO. Have acquired a taste for using an Ultragauge to monitor transmission temps...

I traded my 15 Tacoma OR with only 13K miles to get my 18 Tundra CM OR. I tell everybody that if I would have test drove the Tundra in 2015, the Tacoma would never have left the lot. I absolutely love this truck!!
