I'm pretty sure @Terndrerrr runs 285/75r18 on TRD pro suspension (2" lift) and TRD Pro wheels and only had to remove the front flap.

285/75 appears to be more readily available than 285/70 if you have a blowout "out of town" etc.

And the obvious, bigger is always better.

I feel like a broken record. Fully OEM setup—UCAs, wheels, suspension (TRD Fox 2” lift up front), bumpers, cab mounts, all of it.

285/75R18s fit. Just add 2” up front, and remove the little mud flap in front of the front wheel.

Also, hot take: 285/75s ARE 35s. They’re basically just 35x11.5 for an 18” rim.

Double also: I do better on mpg than pretty much everyone running 12.5” wide 35s.

I agree with you and planned to run the 285/75 until I saw @TRDFerguson go down this obstacle and all the sudden 12.5” didn’t seem so wide. Still not sure what I’ll end up with - I have about 10k miles to figure it out.

Is that the top of Hells Gate? You can do that in a bone stock TRD Pro with the factory Michelins. https://www.dailymotion.com/video/x3vgvtx

I'm not saying you shouldn't do 12.5" wide tires...go with what you like, and post pics!

For me, the absolute bolt-on workability of the narrower 285/75s is a no-brainer. If I'm gonna cut stuff up, it's going to be for 37s lol

It’s “the crack” near the Devil’s Staircase at Broken Arrow in Sedona - a stock Pro could probably do it, with the right spotter, but it’d be sketchy.

I’m not sure about a tundra pro but I’ve watched a modded Taco crunch itself falling down the crack.

285/75r18s are actually taller than 35s (34.8 vs 34.5-34.6)... which are just a couple 10ths taller and wider than 295/70r18s.

Fond of the fat 35s (325/65r18... 34.6" tall) myself...

A lot of semantics on 35’s - my main distinction for “35s” vs a metric equivalent is for some reason when you get the 35x12.5, you get additional tread depth.

Which tires? It seems pretty random to me, with small differences.

    Just checked Toyo AT3s in 295/70 (16.6/32), 285/75 (16.5), 35 (16.9), and 325/65 (17.0).
    Looked at Falken AT3W in 285/75 (18.0), 35 (19.0), 325/65 (20.0)
    And Cooper AT3... 295/70 (17.0), 285/75 (17.0), 35 (16.5), 325/65 (16.5)

Inch measurements not only exaggerate diameter, they exaggerate width also. 35x12.5s are always measured on a 10" wide rim which is rarely used. 8.5" is allowed, and 9" is typical. Usually they will be 12.5" wide (but sometimes less) on a 10", but this drops to ~12.1-12.2" on a 9" rim... basically the same as a 295/70.

Metric tires seem to be very close to their spec (+ or - 1/10"), using appropriate rim widths. 325/65s are the easily the widest "35" at 13.0" on a 9.5" rim typically, and are the same diameter as 35s at 34.6". 285/75s are the skinniest at 11.2-11.5" on a 8" rim (would be .3-.4" wider on a 9" rim). 295/70 are 11.8-12.0" on a 8.5" rim.

Typical actual size normalized to a 9" width rim:

    295/70= 34.3 x 12.0
    285/75= 34.8 x 11.7
    35x12.5= 34.6 x 12.1
    325/65= 34.6 x 12.8

35s are usually higher priced than the others as well. I can't see any reason for that other than marketing to "Mericans" who like measurements in inches, rather than foreign commie metrics.

It's worth noting that 295/70s and 285/75 are spec'd to fit a 8" wide rim so they can be put on stock Tundra rims, while 35s usually want 8.5" and 325/65 want 9" minimum.

At any rate, I think it's pretty awesome that we have so many choices in tires around this size... just wish they weren't so damn expensive!

Those seem to be an outlier, even for Nitto. Checked their Rekon... plus BFG KO2, and Yoko X-AT, Grabber ATX, and Hankook AT2, and they don't show that trend.

I think you're missing the boat here...

You need to throw some Mickey Ts into the discussion, just know they are a big larger (more true to size) than many of the competitors. So, while a 295/70 may work for your setup in a Wildpeak, it probably won't in a Mickey T....

This was my experience (they were super wide for a 295). They "worked" for me, but they barely cleared ¼" on the UCA with the stock TRD OR wheels. Also rubbed the front sway bar at full lock. Still an awesome tire I think other than their weight.
