I'm on the fence between 275/70's and 285/70's. I had the intention of either getting some meaty MT's in 275 or a hybrid in 285.

I found a local person selling some 285/70 Toyo Open Country MT's that are barely used for $1k.

Is the power and mpg loss really that noticeable?

    Alot of them
See how much the MT's weigh. I have the Ridge Grapplers in 285/70 and they are 59 lbs. It didn't have too much of a noticeable decrease. These trucks are definitely not know for good mpgs.

I noticed a bigger difference from stock to 275/70-18 E rated than I did going from 275/70-18 to 285/70-18. As mentioned above - I’ll go to 285/75-18 or just bite the bullet and do 35s on my next set.

Ha. New tires, rear bumper, better suspension - hopefully my wife doesn’t get the truck in the divorce.

As stated above, if you have a leveling kit or mild lift, go 285/75s. They fit well on these trucks.

I thought that on a 2" lift that 285/70's were the largest before having to do some surgery

They weigh 70lbs according to the Toyo website.
Not really worried about mpg too much. Truck gets between 12-14mpg around town, but i do tow a travel trailer a few times a year and dont want to run into power problems.

I think a lot of guys here run 2” up front with 285/75r18. Stock +60mm offset helps with that. Front (bumper side) mud flaps is all that most remove.

I think you’re right. Chances are decent 285/75 will hit the bumper.

    Too many, but not enough....
I would stick with 275/70 or go to 35s. Both of those options are probably much easier to find if you are ever in a pinch somewhere.

Talk me out of 285/70 and into 285/75's.

In reality the 75's weren't even on my radar. These more of a common size or just "bigger is better" kinda thing?
I'd have to look into what else would come along with it...assuming i'd have to use spacers for the front bumper?

I'm going with 295/70/18s in a Falken Wildpeak A/T3W E-Rated after a 2-3" front level and 1 inch rear block (plus an RAS HD in a few months). Discount Tire lets you try them for a little bit before settling.

I absolutely love my 285/75/18 Falken Wildpeak AT3Ws. Picked them up from Simple Tire for $1240!
I'm on Bilsten 6112s on the 4th notch so about 2.5" of lift I believe. On a 18x9 +25 SCS Ray 10! They fill the wheel wells so much better than the 33s!

    20230426_073621.jpg

    Before and after top is 275/70/18 on a 18x9 +12 and bottom is 285/75/18 on a 18x9 +25!

Ohh trust me, i've used that comparison calculator many times.

my concern is more so how they will fit on the truck, will they clear the UCA and bumer on TRD OR wheels? I eventually will get some SCS Ray10, but probably put them on the OR wheels for now.

I can get a measurement between my tire and my stock UCA and then deduct the offset difference between the stock trd wheel and a SCS ray 10 which would be 35mm! Then that should tell you if you can fit it on the stock TRD off-road wheel! As long as i have 35mm there you should be able to clear a 285/75/18!

Nope, when I bought the truck it came with the black rhino York wheels and 275/70/18's and the only thing the guy did to the truck was put the bumper spacers on it and that's it! Which gives you a little extra room but it would be close without the bumper spacer but still would probably clear!

So Between the sidewall and stock UCA on a 285/75/18 on my SCS Wheel I got 1-5/8". So my wheels are +25mm and stock TRD offroad wheels are +60mm which means there is a 1.37" difference so mathematically speaking you should be able to clear a 285/75/18 on a stock TRD Offroad wheel! You Should have about a 1/4" of clearance which is enough!
