Talk me into ceramic coating

Ceramic coating does not allow for car washes with brushes. Brushless only or the two bucket method mentioned by Borgs above. Otherwise it will only last for a much shorter time and the swirls will show. Only use synthetic spray on waxes if you are going to top-coat it. Carnauba based waxes gum it up and is counter productive.

Had my tundra ceramic coated out here in Phoenix, AZ. Looks better than the day I drove it home from the dealership. The good guys at Bob Moses Ceramic Coating use SENSHA Japan and the results were great. Picked it up tonight and still needs to cure for 7-10 more days .

I got a servfaces coating, couldn't be happier... but ya any good quality, true ceramic coating can be a great investment if you're really using your vehicle.

 

This thread has me pretty convinced... but can anyone recommend a good shop in the bay area to do the work?

I've found some, but not sure what a fair price is..... I'm getting quoted about 600 for the 2 year warranty, 1000 for the 5 year.... The best place I have found will also do a clear bra front for 1500....My truck is a daily driver so I want to take care of it, but also don't want to over pay for something.

I paid 575.00 for my clear "bra" front. 3M PF / Bumper, full headlights, grill surround and the mirrors. My Opticoat Pro which is rated for 5 years was under 700.00. That was with very thorough paint correction. My guy is an independent and I am pretty sure he figures his hourly at around 60.00 but works most likely at 1 1/4 to 1 1/2 times more efficiently than most. Most shop rates are 100.00 to 150.00/hr which is where the costs come into play. The actual ceramic coating material costs for these products to these dealers are around 100.00 to 250.00 per vehicle plus the cost of related cleaning compounds and prep materials. Overhead, availability and hopefully expertise is what you are really paying for.

 

Yea at these prices in the Bay Area I may just have to resort to doing a wash, polish, and seal myself in the alley.... sucks but I just can’t pony up that much money I don’t think....

 

Guy locally just quoted me $500.00 for full detail, clay, paint correction and ceramic coating. That price is almost too low. Makes me leary of it. I just messaged him back asking what brand coating he uses.

One thing I’m really questioning is the price includes free “ceramic reload” every six months for two years. Not sure what that’s about. A good coating shouldn’t need “reloading”, much less twice a year, right?

He quoted paint correction only for $300.00.

Edit- Guy says he uses CQuartz.....

 

I suppose it's possible that he's hurting for xmas cash and in the mood to rip a deal.

 

I was wondering what he meant by “ceramic Reload”. If it’s him applying Reload a couple of times a year, I definitely wouldn’t need that, unless it affects his warranty. I’m seriously considering pulling the trigger on it.
