I am running 5w30/0w30 because two of my vehicles and my home generator use it. Now I only have to look out for deals on 3 different types of oil instead of 4, though Motul 5w40 and 10w60 don’t really go on sale…

I switched both of my high mileage 5.7's to Costco 5w-30 this spring, quite the change in how they sound. I will not being going to back to 0W-20.

Seconded on the difference in sound going from 0w20 to 0w30.

Not significant, but definitely evident at idle.

Funny how much we talk about valve noise, but I worry far more about the bottom end.

    I don’t think I’ve ever seen a crank / bearing failure in the 3UR

there’s the question…people complain about the noises but do any ever fail? Even the chain tensioner people complain about, I don’t think I’ve see any stories of skipping time or breaking a chain.

but your 5w30 is too thick the motor has tight tolerances and your oil can't lube the really tight spaces that's why it needs 0water20

Ya ok I've been running no name 5w30 for 60k miles I should probably just park it before the starving engine ceases up and leaves me stranded

I once ran out of 5w-30 and had to mix in a quart of 10w-30.

see...that right there is damn correct.

I consider Houston Texas to be Mexico...for a myriad of reasons....and thick oil is authorized.

Both of the million mile Tundras were serviced at the same dealership. Assuming they were following Toyota recommendations, they would be using 5w30. Good enough for me.

I know these were 4.7L with cast iron blocks. I’m not smart enough to know what difference that would make in the oil viscosity recommendation. It’s also interesting that the same manual that recommends 5w30 for the 4.7 recommends 5w20 or 0w20 for the 5.7.

I've ran 15w40 T6 multiple summers. Probably going to stick to 5w30 though just because sometimes I dont put enough miles on in the summer since I ride my motorcycles and end up having to drain out the T6 before 5000 since I dont like it in there once it gets cold.
