Good luck! Hope they fixed all the issues. Sucks they refuse to show us what they actually did

Some clear revisions I noted were that the passenger side top box had been redesigned to allow for the proper clearance against the coolant reservoir tank so it now does not rub.
Additionally the seating side (tabs and lip) of both top boxes now has a better QC as far as measurements to allow a closer to OEM fit on the lower box. I am unsure of a change to the molded nuts and how they line up with the holes for the aluminum MAF pipe.
For the items I didn't see a change on or what still may be improved on.
The silicone pipe from the front air inlet to the top box is the same length. I personally wish it was lengthened about an inch to allow for better register on both male ends of the top box and the added air scoop.
Despite the better cut on the tabs that slide under the top box and the cross lip in the back, they're still a smidge thick. Original Toyota top box is around 11-12mm thick and the Stillen top box is around 14-15 mm thick. Also noticing some light leaking through when running a rough fit with a cube light inside. See images above.

Thanks for sharing. How about the latches? Still pop off when you tap the lid?

I ended up sticking with running the original set I shaved down so not sure how the revised set hold under normal driving conditions. Given the tabs are unable to seat fully and are still a smidge big and the back lip is a little long I'd guess it'll still pop.

Listen fellas I'm not saying it's great, and not even saying it'll fit now but Stillen has made revisions based on our feedback and I'll commend them for that.

The whole radio silence deal, is what it is. Reps come and go just business and what I'd consider a small-medium sized family business they’ve done what they could and managed as well as I’d imagine they could.

with all that said I’ll do my own tweaking and get it to the fit I’m comfortable with and run it. Design and thought behind it is right, at this point not going to get a refund for a return, so make I’ll make it work. Yes it should be good to go from the start but I’ve found more times that any product will have some form of finesse needed than not nowadays.

Sounds like its still a no go for me then. It's way too much money for it to not work. Having an abundance of feedback and available resources to beta test revisions....I wouldn't expect that type of quality to be put out there. I feel for the poor guy off the street that buys it without doing any research and getting sent this stuff...even worse if they settle for it.

Thanks again for sharing your experience!

    Hey all,

I apologize for the silence. I am still here and working hard to try to get you guys a solid product. I know this is taking longer than you want and I wish we could speed the process up myself. I've had a few customers on here and off test out the revised intake. It appears our revisions still need work. We are possibly thinking about using injection molding instead of roto molding for a cleaner fit. I'm taking all the feed back and passing them off to management. I don't have any exact dates for you as their considering all avenues on a solid fix.

Feel free to message me anytime with questions or updates. Thanks for your patience and possible interest in our intake.

Hey Will, thanks for the update. My background is construction and one of the simplest things we try to hash out immediately is measurements. I am not in manufacturing so I don't know the R&D processes that Stillen and other manufacturers follow, so please forgive my ignorance, but I feel like making sure these items fit would be at the foundation of product development.

Other manufacturers, such as aFe and K&N, their intakes replace the entire intake box under the hood at a better price point and have not had any issues with fitment. At this point, why wouldn't you go that route? It seems like trying to "make it fit" to the existing lower-half of the intake box is really hindering your ability to provide a functioning product.

S&B is the gold standard here with intake systems if you MUST mess with the OEM. So far, Stillen has not shown the competency (or desire) to rise to that level.

If S&B's system included a secondary intake point at the front of the truck, I'd be all over it. That is the one component to Stillen's system that has me drawn to it. It doesn't make sense to me to modify the stock intakes if the air is being introduced in the same fashion.

Not trying to make a race truck, just want some better efficiency and value for the money I spend.

on this, I agree. I wish the S&B had the same inlet ducts. Shame that this is still ongoing for needing revisions. Should have sent more out for R&D. Quite clear that many of us here would have been more than happy to give real time feedback but not one of us was reached out to, to my knowledge anyways.

Toyota makes a quality product. While the others provide a complete box, I actually think it's unnecessary as the OEM lower half is solid, provides a debris capture point and difficult to re-mount. Magnuson has shown that you can simply provide a top-box cover taking advantage of the existing design and engineering while providing a higher flow filter and inlet pipe. Toyota Tundra Magnuson Performance Air Intake System – Magnuson Superchargers

While S&B is great, one of the biggest complaints I've heard is issues around securing their lower box to the truck.

I had more complaints installing the S&B brackets to keep the tubes locked in place than the box. The box itself is bulky but not at all the problem. The Stillen and Magnuson use much smaller filters as a result of the lower oem intake box being retained and I don’t pretend to know the science or power gains/loss behind that. I’m sure there is a diminishing return with going larger filter at some point but I wonder how much air flow difference there actually is between the different sizes. This is probably moot though with the restrictor than the S&B uses to not set off any codes

The OEM box does a great job of getting ambient air into the box though. I've been keeping an eye on AIT's via my JB4 app and its within a degree or two of what the dash displays as ambient. Maybe the Stillen kit does a better job at idle or so but the oem setup does great while moving at any speed

I think that is a fair point.

Good to know. I was between the JB4 and Banks iDash to help with monitoring data. Ultimately I've decided to go with the iDash and will order it once someone eventually buys the stock wheels I listed.

Why did you decide on the iDash? and not the JB4 with the added performance benefits?

Just picked up a kit from them...we shall see how they compare. I've had AFE, Stillen and one other prototype that never went to market...lots to compare to

Did you pick it up directly from them? If so, you should have gotten the "handy", tatted, redhead to install it for you while you watched. :D

Not really looking for power gains, I'm looking to mainly monitor what is going on under the hood. I have always been meticulous with maintenance, and would like to see where improvements can be made or catch an issue before it becomes a problem.

Some type of tuning may happen in the future, but it just isn't something I am looking for at the moment.

Cool, just curious. I too have an iDash Pro and StealthPod on order for the same reasons. Banks is just agonizingly slow to ship.

Mine ran a bit lean prior to correction with VF tuner. Just keep eye out if you still have the JB4

Did it pop a code or just noticed trims were off? Currently on oem box with trd drop ins and fuel trims and AFRs are mint. I'll notice any fluctuations for sure

Yeah, I expect everything to work when I've paid money. If they advertise it as a direct replacement for OEM, then it should be a direct, drop in replacement.

Nice! It’s something I’m really looking forward to adding. I don’t order much online so when I do order something I tend to forget about it until it shows up.

Material getting delivered to my job sites, however, is completely different story lately.

So, the ONE question I have is do they do anything other than make your engine louder? I know what Stillen and all the other CAI manufacturers would say but I want to know from non-biased purchasers of said product.
I can see where more air would be beneficial BUT only with a bigger butterfly/sensors and mods to the engine and exhaust plus flashing the computer.
So, fellow Tundrians, does it benefit your truck in any way? Thank you. Good night.

    Yep, I figured.
I fell for them about 20 years ago and put one on my 2002 Nissan Frontier believing it was going to make a few more hp. All it did was make the supercharger louder and empty my wallet of $300 bucks. It DID fit though. Then I added headers into a custom exhaust.
Yeah, this was before (and therefore the reason for) I researched the $@%# out of just about everything I buy now. So, I learned something from it at least. Not to bother with this sort of stuff unless I'm going all out. Which I'm not going to do with my Tundra. It's fast and strong enough for me and for what I do. Will tow everything I'm going to be towing and haul everything I'm going to haul. So, it stays stock.
