I've heard drive shaft carriers make that noise.

I've even experienced some that were defective in less than 500 miles.

Was there no "test drive" before you signed papers?

Interesting...it would make sense if it were that for some of the issues. I'll mention it to them when I bring it in, thanks!

No, and I typically don't for a new vehicle, but either way it wouldn't have told me much as I didn't start hearing the noises until I got on the highway.

it's definitely rotational and not related to the brakes. I have engaged and disengaged 4hi just messing around and didn't seem to change anything. The random clank noises and such seem to be coming from the rear, so I'd guess it's coming from the axle, dif or drive shaft joint, but then again some noises like the random squeeking noise at low speed seem to be coming from the front wheels. That's the frustrating part and what's frustrating me most about toyota and the fact that this thing passed multiple inspections is that the noises are coming from all over the truck.

Was probably built on a Friday. Take it to any Toyota dealership for warranty service. Tell them you want everything fixed.

I must be strange then. I test drive every vehicle I buy, and have a mechanic look over any used vehicle I buy (because I dont know anything). I would have absolutely put in on the highway in this test drive. Not to mash the accelerator, but at least test on ramp merging speed and to make sure there's no alignment/wobble issues at 65-70.

Sorry for the troubles you're experiencing, but like many have suggested, you have a warranty. I would contact any dealer (if the selling dealer is too far away) and have them address the issues.

I didn't test drive the 2020 I just bought either. Probably should have but by the time it came in, I was just ready to GTFO of there.

My '16 got some strange sound as well but nothing nearly as bad as yours, hopefully the stealership can make it right for you...

Issues with new vehicles are rare and I flew out for this specific truck, so realistically i was driving it home one way or another at that point. Would've cost me another $500 and lost time at work to reject it between Uber rides, plane tickets, more days off of work, etc etc. Not to mention this is the last thing I (or any rational person) would expect from a new 50k truck from a brand known for reliability.

Listening to a couple of those sounds (whirring, not clanking), I wouldn't be surprised if they are generating heat. Probably wouldn't hurt, next time you hear the sound, to put your hand up to the diff, hubs and even each wheel, and check to see of they are hotter than normal. My spidey-sense is telling me that there is some abnormal friction going on somewhere. And not to state the obvious, but one issue can cause multiple, strange sounds (albiet, maybe not all).

That's nuts. Even though Toyotas have an exceptional record, someone, somewhere, will receive a new vehicle where a problem has occurred. Sucks to be that guy. Never heard anything like that though  Get that thing to the dealer and let us know what they come up with. Sorry for your troubles and good luck

I'm a noob here but anxious to see how this plays out. I too failed to test drive my 2019 before I drove it off the lot because I had driven one *exactly* like it extensively (the only thing different was the color) and had owned another Tundra for 10 years and 200,000 trouble free miles. Now I own a truck that hasn't driven exactly right a single day since I've had it. I am two alignments, two sets of wheels, and about to be on my third set of tires to try to cure a steering wheel wobble (plus several dealer inspections reporting nothing wrong with any suspension or steering components). I also have the intermittent howling banshee feature from my driver's window in the wind. Learn from my and the OP's mistake... NEVER sign for a car that you haven't tested and driven until you are certain it's perfect. Also, check for a transmission cooler if that sort of thing is important to you :)

The steering wheel wobble appears to be a common problem. I've taken my truck in 4 times first year with no resolution. I think they've fixed all the rattles and recall #1 is done.

Good advice to always test drive before signing.

I’ve bought several cars a long distance away. I’ve driven 600 miles one way to look at a car and when it wasn’t as advertised I turned around and drove back home! Better to be out a few hundred $$$ and some lost time than get stuck with a permanent headache.

Obviously there is an issue with the truck and it's possibly the same thing causing multiple sounds.

I'm sure there is a logical explanation and mechanical fix for it.

Definitely a frustrating experience... but not worthy of swearing-off the brand. Every new vehicle mfg has an occasional issue or failure of something unexpected.

Just take it to the dealer and get the damn thing fixed.

I hope they are able to fix it for him in one visit. What's frustrating is taking them back over and over with no resolution.

I totally agree... but when the noises/issues are as obvious as this... I don't think a Toyota Tech would have much trouble finding the issue.

So in an interesting development, and I'm not sure if this is a good or a bad thing, the truck has suddenly become quieter than a pindrop the last 2 days (of course, because my service appointment is today).

I half wonder if there was a rock or debris that somehow got into some area and wedged itself inbetween some rotating surface (brake rotor cover, somewhere on the axles or driveshaft, etc etc) and just eventually broke free somehow.

It would kind of serve to explain the initial clunking noise (whatever it was banging around in whatever area it was trapped in) and all other weird noises...It would also explain how it made it past so many inspections because it would have likely been something I picked up on the road while driving after the fact.

i dunno boys, may have been a weird fluke. I'm probably going to reschedule until next week because theyre not going to be able to diagnose based off videos and I was gonna pull my camper a short distance this friday anyway so might just play this one by ear.

Have the check the rear axle. My 2019 ate a rear axle bearing in 30,000 miles. Slight whirring noise and a vibrate were my symptoms.

I would still follow through with the service appointment.
There may still be damage under there that you aren't seeing. A rock, pipe, stick, misc road debris, etc... could have worn a groove in the rotor or brake pad... bent a brake line, stretched a brake hose... etc.
Tell them exactly what you suspect and have the tech look it over real good.

Hell... I've seen railroad spikes stuck in tires already. No idea how they got from the train tracks to the roadway... but still saw it with my own two eyes.

I pulled a full pair of pliers out of a tire once when I was younger and worked in a shop.

I rescheduled my appt for next week so I'll have em look it over. Thanks for the suggestions.

Only sound mine has made is a squeal when lowering the driver’s window. Loud a times.
I’ll mention it at the recall service in a couple weeks.
