I picked up almost 1 mpg, from 15 mpg to 15.9 mpg, when I started driving slower; rarely do I exceed 75 mph, and I slow down pretty substantially going up hills.

If you can drive like there's an egg between your foot and the gas pedal, well you're a better man than me but it'll help. I was raised with 4 cylinder Toyotas that didn't care one bit how much throttle you used. Your mileage was pretty much the same. But as they've squeezed more and more HP out of those cylinders the more they act like the V8s of old. Of course the Tundra is a V8 and I think Toyota likes to burn a little extra gas to extend the engine life. Going from my '00 Tundra to my '07 Tundra with the 5.7 I've actually gained a mpg or two.

2011, 4x4, 4.6, bone stock. 13.6 local and 16.5 to 17.5 highway. Next time I do a highway trip, I'm going to try beast mode without the tow/haul and see if I can pick up a couple tenths.

Also new owner, 5.7L, my ride has 243k. I’ve put 1500 miles on it driving weekends only.
It gets 19.1 mpg @75 mph on flat highway while empty. (70 miles)
Typically, 18.5 mpg on 1hr highway trips. (30+ miles)
City only 14mpg (under 6 miles)
Winter warmup City (5 minutes of idle) 13.3 mpg.

    Combo city/highway is 15.3mpg @ 24 miles one way.

    Murders my 97 Ram club cab 5.9L 2wd, 11/15 city/hwy

12.5ish daily. My daily consists of all rural roads with 25-55mph speed limits.

I did hand calculate 15.8 on a trip from NC to PA last year, nothing in the bed, just some luggage in the cab.

Here are numbers with occasional long trip of 450 miles, usually avg 17 to 18 mpg on those.

Agree about how smooth the 5.0L is. I rented one on a recent fishing trip in Montana and that thing would FLY on the open road, smooth as butter. It's like driving a car tho, and maybe that's why they're shooting for, not sure. I was getting 18-19 mpg pretty easy.

I'd just got off the interstate cruising about 74.

It was short lived...GA backroads sucked the MPG down quickly, especially 5 miles behind a Cotton Pickin' machine...(literally)

2007 TSS 5.7, drove from Houston to DFW and got 20 mpg hand calculated. Granted, there was NOTHING in the truck but me and a small duffel bag at 65-70mph.

Towing my 3500 lb single axle camper I get 11mpg

Compare that to my old tow vehicle, a 2008 MDX. 9 MPG towing on premium fuel, any improvement is improvement.

I drive probably 95% city, live at 3,300' of elevation, I've got beefy A/T's with a large contact patch and good grip, and its winter. I run 91-92 octane fuel and am on average right around 12.8-13mpg even with morning warm ups. I do plug the truck in because I can, helps it warm up faster. I don't drive for fuel economy, I drive it normally and even a bit heavy footed a good chunk of the time because....power is fun. Recently I've been using 4HI a good bit due to roads being slick and MPG hasn't taken a hit. When I had the stock Michelin's on it I got closer to 16, so that tells me tires have a HUGE factor on our trucks (which I'm sure comes as no surprise and we all know). It's a truck and honestly I don't really care about my fuel economy. I only track it to make sure it is consistent for the most part. If it drastically drops, that tells me something is wrong with the truck. Also for what it's worth, my MPG display in the truck is 100% spot on, it reads 13mpg

OK folks, I just made the same trip from SC to South Florida on I-95 (flat terrain) using two tanks of gas. This time I decided to fill up with Shell non-ethanol gas. It was mid grade at 91 octane. The pump lists no additives unlike the other three Shell products 87, 91, 93 octane with additives. Here is the clincher. Non-ethanol fuel is a whopping $1.00 more per gallon! So it cost me over $20.00 more per tankful! And are you ready for this? Drum roll...... I got 17.3 mpg. Only 1/10 more per gallon better mileage. There is no reason to run non-ethanol fuel as it has no proprietary cleaning additives like the ethanol blends. Also, I noticed zero performance difference. Toyota has these engines dialed in with VVT Variable Valve Timing where the onboard computer measures about a dozen different functions such as compression, etc. These engines are made to run on regular gas. I will stick with name brand gas, as all have their own cleaning additives. I think my test results are valid as I drove the same terrain with the same driving functions. My only question now is, Is there a difference in Winter blend fuel vs non Winter fuel? I will do this again in a couple of months. Thanks for chiming in.

Ethanol free gas is better for water craft or engines that sit for long periods of time between cycles because it won't clog carb jets and typically has a much longer shelf life before starting to break down.

That is correct, but I keep reading that people swear they get better performance and mpg with non-ethanol fuel. Just isn't going to happen with a Tundra with VVT and onboard computer.
The ethanol blended fuels from all the majors contain cleaning additives. Modern vehicle engines purr on this stuff. So why would you pay $1.00 per gallon more to get 1/10 better mpg?

Agreed. Not worth the extra money. But because I have a supercharger I have to run the highest octane so I don't mind the added expense there.

I average 11.4 mpg. My highest was 17.5 highway (at 65 mph) and lowest was 8.8 towing a 30’ Jayco trailer. Most of my driving is city.

Good info, glad to see Toyota beating Ford.

There are an insane amount of variables to fuel economy. Even going with a slightly more aggressive tire, say from an AT to an MT you can lose a significant percentage. When I went from worn out Yoko ATS tires to brand new Mickey ATZ tires I lost 1.5 MPG per tank average. When my work commute went from a few blocks of stop lights and 30 miles of freeway to doing 4 miles of stop lights and the same freeway commute my tank average took a hit again. All that stop light idle and repeated stopping/accelerating added up.

Expect results to vary from person to person, but with intentional driving habits you can reach advertised figures in a Toyota.

16.3-8 bone stock mixed driving. 2wd, 5.7, '07, 52-54800 miles on the clock. 18 in fact alloys with yokohoma htx tires.

12.9-13.7 now. Same driving. 1 tank so far. Ouch. The only significant change was going to 20s and 305 55 Goodyear wranglers.

Those tires and wheels are costing 3mpg!

    Rough math...at $2 a gallon...16mpgx20 gal is 320 miles vs 260 at 13. 60miles is 4 gallons difference. Those 20s cost me $8 for every tank.

    60000 mile tires...yeah right. But...

Roughly 225 fill ups during the life of the tires x$8. $1800!!!!!

Is $1800 in looks worth it? Yes.

Glad i kept the factorys tho...for long trips i might swap.

5.7 2015 4X4, pretty much stock, (do have the airbags and Coachbuilders 1's) around West TN, to the farm and back and such divided highway mostly at 70 mph, 16 average. Hook the tractor to it for that same trip get around 12. Putter around town for a week and I get about 14.

    Stock for now.
I'm averaging about 15mpg with the last 2 tanks in my 4.7 since I put in the new crankshaft sensor I was getting around 12 before. still need my O2 sensor. Maybe I'll get the check engine light out with it.

Think long term. Below is where I considered an MT tire at 10lbs heavier per tire. Over 40k miles (life of tire) the difference of 1.5 mpg will cost nearly the price of my next tires.
