Thx Shifty. Assuming you are correct what is next step then? Go down to the dealer and refuse to leave until they replace my frame?

If it's a recent purchase, you need to march back to where you bought it from and raise hell - if it's rusty enough to replace, like it's got holes in it, then it's unfit to drive and shouldn't have been sold without disclosure. Refund is due, or legal action needs to follow. Many states provide consumer protections for exactly such a case, although legal avenue would vary by state.

There's plenty of threads around here with people who got totally burned on their purchase. Some ate the loss. Others were able to return. Most don't bother to update us, and some are even pissed at us for posting the info, which they failed to research before purchasing

Ha. Luckily not that dire of a situation for me. Frame looks ok. Rust yes, but not falling apart. Got the truck for a screaming deal since timing belt was broken, fixed it myself. Happy to just have it. Was really just interested in whether I could get a new frame for free. :)

How do you get the timing adjusted before putting on a new belt? Mine broke and I'm working on fixing it myself just unsure of the procedure to put a new belt on since I couldn't get to top dead center before taking the old one off.

Read through the whole thread on the first page and also searched but couldn't find a definitive answer but I was wondering how can I tell what gear ratio I have? I have an 05 DC 4wd limited I think I found somewhere saying all the 05-06 v8s have a 3.91 ratio can anyone confirm?

    That is correct. 04 DC’s have 4.10’s.

Adding to what @Casper421 said, there is a "Major Technical Specifications" section that lists gear ratio in the 2005 New Features pdf at the below Forum link.

Thank you! I’ve noticed when I was searching some of the axles say with or with out locker. Mine has the auto lsd is that what it means or did these trucks actually come with a locker at some point?

I'll leave it to others to expound further for the simple reason I know just enough to be dangerous. What I do know is that those with factory electronic LSD on our 1st Gens are adequate for traction but an aftermarket LSD or Locker(Auburn LSD, ARB locker, etc....) will benefit with increased traction. So in essence, our auto LSD vs Locker is apples vs oranges.

Now if you wanted to talk about Timothy Leary and LSD, I could definitely discuss :pccoffee:

Yeah I get that my other vehicle currently is a Gladiator Rubicon lockers front and rear an actual locker will always be better than LSD. But I was just wondering if these trucks ever came with an actual locker or only LSD. Again when I was searching rear ends when looking for parts and stuff they always had two options with locker and with out. So im wondering if they are considering the Auto LSD as a locker?

I think LSD only, no factory locker.

The sequoia did have a vsc off button in that square spot though.

@empty_lord knows the full deets. I think I remember him saying there was a fancy TRD LSD that he got his hands on.

That specific shop is known for buying and reselling stuff at exorbitant prices. Just ignore 'em. Sometimes they really sell hacked garbage too.

@shifty` thanks for the link. Agree with everything, especially going with genuine parts. Peace of mind right there. In regards to filters, having been involved in the aftermarket industry and racing in the past, I stay well clear of anything other than stock for those as well. Marketing magic at its finest with the likes of K&N and others.
A properly planned\researched build (or maintenance schedule) using proven parts will yield great, long lasting results.

    Hi All,

I recently picked up a T3 (2003 Tundra) and am going through the previous owner (original owner) paper work for lower ball joints. The truck now has 171,000 klms (106,000 miles). I found a receipt from a Toyota dealership for lower balls joints dated Oct 19, 2005, the truck only had 15475 klms (9600 miles). The paperwork shows "16TOZZ511-CP" and CAMP511 (SSC), I assume this is a campaign for the lower balls joints? Are these upgraded ones from the factory? The part number is 04005-21134
I am more curious about this than anything, because it's a moot point since if they haven't been done since, I need to do them again.
Also do 1st gen owners replace the LBJ based on time or by actually checking them to see if they are loose and need to be replaced?

I would personally replace based on whether they're showing signs of wear, using the push/pull test on raised wheel. I can't find the GIF, so if unclear, YouTube is your friend, I think my favorite car guy to hate, Chris Fix, has a video covering it although I feel like he got one of them wrong. If you're in Canuckistan, and deal with salted roads, age + kms you have on them now would have me replacing.

Only replace with OEM; may as well replace the bolts with new also (check the Spiker test thread here). That info may be linked earlier in the thread, posting just in case.

Yes, that is the LBJ SSC 50J that Toyota put out on certain year 4-runners, Sequoia, etc....including your 2003 Tundra back in 2005.

I dunno, looking at the back half of the frame through the driver's side wheel well, that frame looks awfully bumpy to me. DC is rust belt and treats the roads like anywhere else in the rust belt.
