If you want the skids for general protection (ie. that rare accident where you bump on some rocks), go aluminum.
If you want to actually use the skids for crawling over big rocks on Jeep trails, go steel.

I'm running 3/16" stainless steel skids from BudBuilt and I beat on my skids. Aluminum skids will dent easier, gouge easier, and are harder to repair. More importantly, aluminum skids don't let your truck slide off of rocks as easy as steel. There's a reason why no one makes aluminum rock sliders for the very same reasons.

2"CB shackles, bushings and 1 shim, lockerdown console vault, rear folding seat back mod, snugtop shell with opening side windows, 46g fuel tank, SDHQ sliders and hidden winch, Decked Drawers, Alcan leaf springs and got rid of the interior chrome
I ran 1/2” plastic on the front of my 1st gen Taco. It was a special slippery plastic for stuff like saw and router guides. Slicker than snake snot! And you could get a bit of curve bent to it as you bolt it on. You’re right about the aluminum, as it slides over shit, it’s gouging and makes it a bit more difficult.

Ordered a steel RCI skid myself... figure the extra weight isn't a big deal and the extra durability is nice

I have the same CAT protection skids. How was the compatibility with the RCI skids?

This RCI 38 gal skid is about 1 month old. you can see they added welded protection blocks for the non-recessed locations. pics aren't great, but you get the idea. I could imagine touching them up with a grinder to round over the welded bosses just a bit. 20201124_093739.jpg 20201124_093947.jpg 20201124_093714.jpg

My thoughts exactly. Took delivery of my ‘21 on Saturday and ordered the RCI skid yesterday. Having to remove the underside splash guard each time I do an oil change on our ‘19 Avalon XSE drives my crazy......I said no-way to that with the truck.
