I have them. Haven’t hit any objects with them, but some that have say they have held up good. Are you going steel or aluminum? I got the aluminum ones.

Yes, but if you're doing enough to need armor, get sliders first to protect your frame. (Forgive me; you may have these. I can't keep track.)

If you go RCI, skip the gas tank skid for a 38 gallon tank; protruding bolts make them risky.

Thanks for posting this. I had these on my 'maybe someday' list but if they're on sale maybe I should bump them up. What do you guys think of doing the skid for the transfer case and transmission? Worth it?

I think they were trying to fix these. @RCIoffroad may have more info.

I've read several times that they're 'working on it' but so far no verification of progress. Since the [OP] is asking as he's about to push the purchase button, figured he'd appreciate a heads up. So he knows to ask before buying.

2"CB shackles, bushings and 1 shim, lockerdown console vault, rear folding seat back mod, snugtop shell with opening side windows, 46g fuel tank, SDHQ sliders and hidden winch, Decked Drawers, Alcan leaf springs and got rid of the interior chrome
If you off-road much you know how easy it is to do damage. Nothing sucks more than to have a hard hit on a boulder and see a trail of oil behind you. The engine/transfer case skids are pretty important, in my opinion. The sliders mainly keep the body rocker panels from getting dented up and rear kick out will help push the back end away from rocks. They’re also really handy for jacking up the side of your truck to get over obstacles or out of trouble.

Agree. Tagged RCI to see if they can clarify.

Sliders will be here friday! And yea I've read that about the gas tank skids. Was going to hold off on those until they got the situation cleared up. And I was going to go with the bare aluminum ones. Mainly to save a little weight but still have the added protection.

Worth it just by not having to take the stupid skid off to change the oil.

They weight difference is nothing. You have a 5.8, and the skids are lighter than anything you’ll stick in the bed. I wouldn’t be too concerned about durability of the aluminum either if you’re not gonna be doing anything stupidly crazy. Either should handle just about anything you throw at them....within reason

Thanks. I guess I'm skeptical because I also drive on a lot of rough roads and I've beat the hell out of other parts of my vehicles, especially step boards, but I've never had anything other than factory skids and never had an issue. That said, my current truck is a TRD Sport and prior trucks have all been of the off-road persuasion. Not sure how much more support they had. Anyone have an idea of how often these things go on sale like this? Rare occasion or not that unusual?

Anyone on this forum that is off road ever will have some skids, and of the folks I know, at least 80% went with RCI

I just pulled the trigger on a raw aluminum set for the engine and transfer case. I'll hold off on the gas tank until that gets worked out.
