They're willing to provide the MSRP adjusted price in writing at the same time they commit to the trade in value of your current vehicle?

:monocle: Exactly. Highly skeptical that this is truly the deal and that it won’t change after the dealer feels that they have set the hook, so to speak.

From what I understand, you can put a deposit on a new one and when it arrives you can beck out of the deal without any penalty. Be sure the deposit is fully refundable and you can get out of the contract for ANY reason. Then you have nothing to lose

It would be smart to wait for the 2022: Lifts, Mods, and most important Catalytic Converter Shield. If you have a paid off Tundra look into Supercharging, that's what I plan on doing after I pay mine off. I will probably get the next gen Tundra but in a couple of years and by then I will know of its worth buying. :pccoffee:

I wouldn't get the 2022 right away. I would wait. A toyota mechanic told me the first buyers will be the guinea pigs and will help toyota work through the issues that pop up. I personally experienced this when I bought the current model toyota tacoma in 2016 when it came out. I paid a little above msrp and the truck had weird transmission issues that were later fixed with software updates. That's when I got rid of it and got my tundra.

Yeah at that time of the release of the 16. I was purchasing a new Tacoma. Had my choice go with the last 15 or get the 16. I got the 15. Drove it for 2 years and got almost what I paid for it and traded it in on my 17 4runner Pro. And so on.

To me, it sounds like your mind is made up just from your responses to posts that arent swinging in favor of the new model. Trade and buy a new one. Like previously mentioned, Toyota needs guinea pigs.

I've noticed there are quite a few on here posting for "help" deciding, and when the majority vote against buying the new truck, or spending more money on some scenario they ignore it, lol.

They just came to validate a decision they already made. Which is fine, bit funny to read through :D

it is good when threads are funny and entertaining and providing good information. 8^0
as the op of this thread. and as I said earlier about 2 weeks ago I was not even considering this.
But two weeks ago I learned how much my truck is worth in this market. So i figured lets look into this. So based on the information mainly from the internet, before starting this thread I was lets call it 50-50.
I can tell you as of right now I am 80-20 keeping my truck.
That could change tomorrow if I see the truck and things change. That is happening mid Dec when the dealer's first trucks come in.
I am going to go and look. Why not. I have been given a crazy price through email on my truck and in Canada it is illegal for dealers to sell above MSRP.

I said earlier the responses here have really helped me. I am getting opinions from real truck people. Not friends and family who do not really understand the things I value.
Also I am the type if you have noticed when presented with a decision to make, to try and list ALL the Pros for changing and see if that makes a difference.

In warm weather on country roads doing 80kms/50mph. Truck is loaded down but obviously not pulling anything.
The other thing is, this is going by the truck mileage computer with at least 1 hour of driving. Usually two hours.
Otherwise I find the mileage display on my 2018 pretty useless as it starts at 60L/100 (lol) and goes down from there. So time at the wheel is needed.
In cold weather forgetaboutit till it warms up.
    Just my experience.

And one time when gas prices dropped I went to the gas station to fill up and came back home. I lived in a valley with the station at the top of it. I filled up and for fun as there was no traffic I coasted home in idle most of the way. I got the mileage shown in this picture.

Hey this is good financial advice. People are too caught up in “keeping up with the Jones’s “, new things. Cars are 99% of the time not an investment but a depreciating asset.
I have had 55+ cars, I love them they make me happy looking back at them as I walk away or I dump them. But on the other hand when I bought my 19 cash I had 9 houses in the fastest growing market in the US. The business I own manages to cover about 10k in depreciation every year. So in the past I would just trade and break even instead of paying it in taxes. Covid messed that up for me so I still have my 9000 mile 19. I had a 2016 taco I got in 2015 and it had all kinds of issues, this makes me wary of a first year Tundra. On the other hand I also think the new Tundra looks cool and liked my 19 Raptors power. , interior and options. I will probably wait a year for the 2023 Tundra as well or a full electric Taco would spark my interest.

Thx for all suggestions to date. Feel Free to Add to the Pros and Cons. I am trying to compare
My 2018 SR5 Crewmax TRD OR versus a 2022 New SR5 DB TRD OR. Truck Unseen.

    PROS

    • No taxes on new vehicle - minimal - due to my trucks trade in value. Ontario tax 13%.
    • Above market price trade in value due to pandemic, supply chain. Temporary situation.
    • New Tires and Rims, Brakes. Wear items not under warranty.
    • New Factory Truck bumper to bumper warranty.
    • Auto Climate Control - don't have it now. A real pain with cold startup and when going through forested roads that are shady and then sunny and then shady again.
    • Ergonomic controls - my seat heater controls are after thoughts. Two buttons under the main pod. Can't be seen and pushed without performing yoga moves in a moving vehicle.
    • Android Auto / Apple Carplay - don't have it. It does have navigation but it is not very good in comparison.
    • Rear diff lock, MTS - available in 4Hi now, and Crawl Control
    • 6.5 bed length. The material not sure about the composite bed.
    • New technology in general. Multi Terrain Camera - 360 views
    • Tow and Tow + (Toyota Exclusive)
    • Better Mileage

    CONS
    • Paying close to MSRP - have always bought vehicles based on dealer cost (known) + small profit.
    • I would have to cough up extra money that does not need to spent right now on a depreciating asset.
    • Who buys a new truck that does not have to - new from the ground up in the first year?
    • Who buys a new truck that does not have to - that was built during a pandemic lockdown?
    • Lose the V8 with Borla Exhaust
    • Lose the power rear window. Use it a lot.
    • Lose the sunroof - never use it
    • Lose the Crewcab - have never had anyone sit back there except a 90lb Black Lab, but it has SUV like storage area. Secure and waterproof.
    • Lose the transmission cooler (need to confirm) and tow hooks
    • There are features I would want, that only come in a Limited model. That will be more $$$$
    ***************************

I will update the list after I see the truck in person.

Seriously... why even put backseats in this Double Cab ?
Maybe its an illusion and different in person ?
If it isn't then getting the Double Cab for the longer bed is no longer an option.

Front seat looks slid back some, but yeah the backseat in the DC is next to useless except for storage or double amputees.

I've been trying to decide whether the new DC will work for me based on the info out there. I find the gen2 double cab has plenty of room in the back. From what I can tell it looks like the rear seat bottoms are much deeper on the gen3's giving it an illusion of a lot less room between the front and rear seats. The datasheets say its 1.4" less rear leg room, which is significant but not a huge difference. Its the same as the 4 runner and more than the taco. That pic looks like the front seats are all the way back. The interior pics of the double cab on the US site are different, with the front seats probably in a mid position:

Seriously... why even put backseats in this Double Cab ?

Not all people are 6'2 and weight 275 lbs. My friend how has the double cab is 5'6 and weights about 150 lbs. and has no children at home. That leaves good room for luggage.

I'd get the DC because what I really want is the Regular cab but that's no longer available.

The Canadian picture has the back of the seats even with the back of the center console. The American picture has the seats moved up like you say. There does not appear to be much room in front of the seat. I always run with the seats up. And there has been lots of room for bulky tall items like dressers/TV's, etc... They had to build a frame under the seat to hold the batteries. They then structured it to carry/store stuff and said - well, people told us they wanted storage so we provided it. But the flat floor holding taller stuff can no longer hold as tall items with the battery frame there.

My experience has been that any passenger I carry regardless of size ,try to move the front passenger seat back all the way and the seat always hits on whatever I have stored behind the seat. I am of average size 5 10', and keep the driver seat around the middle spot. I have never had people in the back so can't provide an opinion. The times my black lab comes aboard I keep the seats up. I put his bed on the floor. I cant do that anymore with that frame there now !!

TFL just drove the new tundra they bought 350 miles and averaged 18mpg highway. Not much better than the 5.7 and a lot less than the window sticker says. I’m curious if the hybrids gonna match the window sticker

if he’s getting .5 mpg over the sticker low (I’m going off my ‘22 tundra waiting to arrive), he would still be within expectations. My ‘21 Tacoma sticker shows 18-22, I consistently get 21.x. It’s likely a matter of how one drives. I’m sure he floored it a “couple times” too :dancingbacon:

Plus it's not broken in and he was going over 70 the whole time.

I know. OP is asking if he should trade in his ‘18 in for this one. If he’s basing it off mpg, the difference is not that much is all I’m saying. If he could wait a year and have these dealers stop asking for above MSRP. That would be ideal.
