You ask what should you do?
I say use your own eyes to watch your surroundings.

Would Toyota fix it if they were at fault? I'd assume so.
P.S.- Toyota would not be at fault for you backing into a tree when relying on a drivers aid/assistance feature.

Maybe I'm old school but I like to use mirrors and Turing my head to see all around my vehicle before I move.

You also never asked how to fix it and if you did you asked in about the most vague of ways possible.

He didn’t say it was Toyota’s fault!
He asked if it was Toyota’s fault, would they do anything!

Pretty easy to see that he was asking for help with the sensor system.

Op, I have a basic truck so unfortunately I can’t help.

Unfortunately, you’re on your own. My sensors pick up quite often and on most things but I never rely on them.
Get your bumper fixed and don’t rely on the sensors.

As I mentioned earlier, even when manufacturers are at fault e.g. Toyota cam tower, rear diff, IBC ... or Ford/Chevy/Dodge other more major problems/issues ... they still try to find a way not to fix the problem.

Now you have a gadget sensor which I like btw, not detecting something or a little dog ... Good luck. Even I would not consider that their fault.

Fix the IBC that I paid for. Why should I buy P3? :D

I have a Lexus RX350 and turn off all the sensors. When I learned to drive I learned to watch my surroundings (I’m sure there is something like that in the Drivers Ed manual). I’ve made mistakes like backing through a garage door because I was a dumbass and forgot to raise it :annoyed:. That’s on me - not on the garage door, car manufacturer, donut shop, etc. you get the point

They are called "Park ASSIST sensors". I work for Toyota. We would not warranty that for you.
They are not meant to detect everything, if you look in your owner's manual it specifically says which objects they will not detect, and thin round poles (AKA trees) are one of them.

After reading the entire thread I'm pretty sure that I have it figured out. It is definitely not Toyota's fault. It is not a bad sensor's fault. It might be slightly the OP's fault, but just a little.

Pretty much all the fault lies with Canada. It's always their fault, no matter what the problem is.

It’s no wonder these driver aids come standard nowadays. I hate paying extra for something I don’t want or need. These things don’t make up for lack of brain.

Now after reading this I’m entirely not surprised why I always run into people that still change lanes when their BSM is on. If I can see the light from the next lane over the driver should have no excuse.

Did you turn off the parking sensors? I've done that then forgot to put them back on. But I cant imagine even asking if toyota would pay for the damages, I wouldn't even consider it.

I don't have the sensors so don't know for sure but it seems like they can be turned off, so your dealership is probably going to assume they were if you ask them to pay to fix your truck. They may be willing to check if there's a problem with the system but they'll also want to charge you a diagnostic fee for that, I bet.

I don't have TSS on my Tundra, but the backup camera works pretty damn well once you figure out how the brackets they give you work. I had the wife stand behind the truck while slowly backing up so i could figure out how close i could get before hitting something. She's a keeper.

No sensors on my 2007. I rely on space perception. I can usually backup to within 8 to 10 inches of the stupid 4x4 right behind my parking space.

How fast were you going? The sensors work when you're in parking situations and traveling at slow speeds for a period of time. The fact your camera worked at the time has nothing to do with the sensors, those are in the bumper. My bet is you were going too fast for them to work, if you did indeed had them on. Your original post was asking if toyota would pay for the damages, in addition to asking what could be wrong with the sensors, so playing that card now doesn't fly

I have. And my buddies and I also blame coors light seeing that my group of about 10 close friends have about 25 kids....ALL girls. The only commonality between us all was the consumption of about 20 of those beers a few times a week from ages 18-24, we have yet to hear back from corporate in CO. They owe us for pain and suffering.
