It’s not sticky, or oily. It dries cured. To get it off you have to mechanically scrape it and use solvents.

And if you need to remove some over-spray I found Isopropyl Alcohol from the drug store, $3 for a decent sized bottle, works great in breaking it down. i recently used it on a antique car to remove some Cosmoline over-spray in the engine bay.

Your truck is going to rust out eventually..fluid film, cosmoline will slow that process down, but it won't stop rust from taking hold.

Drive your truck and enjoy it. By the time that thing has "rusted out" you'll be onto a new truck. The OEM's design/build these things to last, even in the northern climates.

@Big Yota appreciate the great research description and attention to detail. I've been wanting to do this on my Tundra for awhile. Just wish I had a lift, don't relish the thought of climbing under my rig to do this. Sounds like this Cosmoline is the way to go. What do I care if it's a bitch to remove? Isn't that the freakin point of undercoating?!?

I feel for you all in the wet salt rich climate. I haven’t bothered for years, but do appreciate the cosmoline the Germans put all over there motors. I guess with my Toyota’s I get through 300 k without noticing or caring about rust. It’s not the body, that rust left in The eighties. At that point anyone is glad to get a one owner vehicle for a good price. Rinse and repeat..
