Hey guys, I have a 18 tundra and I recently installed some rocks lights. A few days ago my truck battery was flat when I tired to start it. It turns out it was my rock lights the made it flat since it’s controlled through Bluetooth and I may have accedently turned it on. So currently, the Power running to the battery with a fuse and the ground is running to the fender bolt near the battery. So what I want to do is connect the power wire to the positive wire on the cargo lights. I need some help locating the power wire for the cargo lights (3rd brake lamp). I’m not trying to unbolt my dash or nothing like that. Is there any wires going though the door jam on the driver side where I can connect the power wire for my rock lights that is controlled from the cargo light switch? If so can someone tell me where to find it and maybe attach a picture

On my '16 there's a very small brown wire beneath the driver door sill. I tapped into that to run puddle lights under my truck that turn on and off with the courtesy lights. Not sure if that's what you're trying to achieve.

Why not get a harness with relay and fuse and switch that way u avoid the hassle of turning on by accident. U add a switch and once it’s on control with Bluetooth. Easy peasy

I don’t want to run a separate switch since I don’t want to drill holes into my dash. I need a wire that will turn on the rock lights when I turn on the cargo lights. What I need is a wire I can tap into from the driver side door jam

@831Tun gave you a good recommendation for tapping the cargo light switch. In addition, you an also tap the cargo light switch underneath the driver side rear passenger scuff plate. I believe you have to remove the driver side kick panel and the scuff plate to tap underneath the driver scuff plate whereas you only need to take the scuff plate off on the rear. The wire color underneath the rear scuff plate will most likely be a different color wire and may take some testing with a test light or multimeter to get the right wire for your year model. On my 2015 it was a grayish colored wire in the wiring bundle and was one of the smaller gauge wires.

Far right wire on my 2015.

NM. I see 2018. It's a pink wire under the driver side sill.

Do you have a multimeter or test light and some PosiTaps? If you do, unscrew a PosiTap that the wire fits the groove in the end. Lay the wire you are testing (it will be a smaller gauge wire) in the PosiTap groove and screw it down. The point in the PosiTap will pierce the insulation and tap the wire. Take your multimeter or test light, clip the ground contact to a bolt or other good ground point, and touch the multimeter or test light to the other end of the PosiTap metal. You will obviously need to have the rear door open and scuff plate removed to do this if you tap the light circuit in the driver side rear passenger bundle. If your test light or multimeter shows voltage, press in on the door switch and hold it in. If you have the correct wire, the test light or multimeter will loose power/light after the delay for the cargo/inside lights. If it does not loose power like the cargo light/inside lights, choose another small gauge wire and repeat. Put a little electrician tape on the wire you just pierced (it will be a small hole from the tap). Shampoo, rinse, and repeat until you find the wire that you need.

On the 18 in the wire bundle under the driver's door sill, it is the pink wire. I'll try to take a pic later. i think it's the bright pink one

Yes. There were a couple of the gray/black thinner gauge wires in the bundle so you may need to test them, as I mentioned in my post, before knowing you have the right wire.

Ok, so I’m tapping into the rear scuff plate. Does anyone know how to route the wire from under the truck to the rear surf plate without drilling? My control box is mounted in the frame rail under the driver and I need to get the 18 gauge wire somehow into the cabin to the rear scuff plate. Does anyone know how to do it???

When I did mine, I used a fish wire to run the wire into one of the drip edge drain holes. They will come up into the wire bundle channel. There are also rubber grommets on the underside if you prefer that. After running your wire, seal around the wire with some silicone. Are you planning to use an in-line fuse when you tap into the cargo light circuit?

Can you please attach some pictures? Of the drip edge drain hole and where to fish the wire through. I wasted my whole day today to find a way to fish it through. And yes I’m going to use a inline fuse

Ok, here is a picture of the drip edge and the oblong drain hole plus my wire running up through it. You will need to use a fairly stiff gauge wire to go up through the hole and into the channel. The wire below it goes to one of my led lights (the black framed piece).

I didn't take a picture of the wire bundle in the channel and I don't want to pull up the door scuff plate on the driver side rear passenger side for a picture. But, it pops up off of a few white clips on the wiring bundle channel. Really not a whole lot to see. Just imagine a channel under the scuff plate that the wiring bundle runs through to the rear of the truck. The drain hole on the drip edge/pinch weld comes up directly below the channel. Just fish your wire up into the channel from below and remove some of the tape that covers the wiring bundle to access the wires. The scuff plate picture below (the large plastic cover by the carpeting) is what pops up.
