Remote Starter

Sounds like maybe a stupid question. But is there not an option from the dealership that utilizes your key? Like hold lock down for a couple seconds?

 

Yes there is a factory option, but most people don’t like it because when you unlock or open the door the engine shuts off and you have to start it again when you get in. Also, it has a more limited range. There are after market options that work with your factory fob as well and those don’t shut off the engine when you open the door, but still have the limited range.

 

Just installed my compustar on my 18 sport from Chris I bought on eBay. Install took about 40 mins. He includes a YouTube video on how to take apart the dash and install the kit. Way toooo easy!

 

I have the Fortin...I hit "lock-unlock-lock" to start my truck. I do need the key to open the door, but the engine keeps running unless I step on the brake before inserting the key into the ignition. I've had it for about a year now, and I've been very happy with it.

 

I bought this a few months ago and everything was working great but then I started having some issues with my remote (I had upgrade to the 2 way remote). I contacted Chris and he was pretty helpful at first. I had to send him out my remote to get it swapped and this is were my problems started. He told me he would send me a new one at the end of July and when it didn’t get here after a few weeks I contacted him and he said that they were on back order and that it would be a few weeks before I got mine. I gave him about a month or so and I still didn’t get anything. I tried texting and calling him and he wouldn’t return my texts or calls. Eventually he answered me and told me that he still hadn’t received any remotes and told me to check the compustar website to see if there were any other remotes I would be interest in and that maybe he could send me one for the same price (keep in mind we are now in September). I then contacted Compustar to verify what he was telling me about the remotes being on backorder and they said they were stocked up with 500+ units with no record of them being on back order. I called Chris back that same day (it was a Friday) and he said he would call compustar and to give him a call back on Monday to see what we were going to do. The following week I tried calling him several times with no answer, I was finally able to talk to him when I called from a different number. He told me he had just received them and that I would be getting mine this up coming week. Now we will wait and see if it does show up.

His customer service was great until I started having issues.

One thing is happening I don’t like but I’m sure someone else has had the same thing happen.

When the truck starts via compustar fob the doors unlock and stay unlocked until I press the fob 2x. Anyone else know how to reprogram the system so the door stays locked when remote started?

That does not sound encouraging. I hope they get it worked out for you quickly.

 

I was really happy with the product at first but after this experience if I have any further issues I would no contact the seller. I rather have someone in my area take a look at it.

 

There is a factory setting from your dash where you can set the doors to relock after being unlocked via FOB if the doors haven't been opened for X amount of time. Mine is currently set to 30seconds.

 

How does this work though.... If I have an aftermarket alarm?

 

installed mine this week and it was a breeze. My door is unlocked after remote starting. had to use the computer fob to re lock which I don't like. Looks like there are a bunch of programmable options so I'm gonna delve into that when I have a chance

 

You just convinced me to order elsewhere, probably from 12volt solutions instead. Nothing worse than tracking down a slippery vendor over stupid simple issue, no thank you.

 

also, just noticed that if I got the lock button on my Toyota fob 3x it will start the truck too

 

With the plug and play, no splice? Do your doors stay locked when starting this way? Thanks!

 

Honestly it doesn’t take much to keep me satisfied (you can ask any of my ex wives lol jk). But on a serious note, all he had to do was update me, that’s all I needed.

 

Yes plug and play. Doors do not stay locked when starting this way. Not sure why anyone would ever want the doors to unlock when remotely starting

 

Yeah I don’t get it, my doors would have to stay locked.

 

Love mine from Tech 12 volts. 3X lock, door is locked, truck starts. press unlock get in and forget half the time to not touch brake before turning key.

I just had my local shop install a compustar remote start on my truck and 2 of the 2 way remotes with 2 mile range,they did my last 2 tacomas and i like that they are local and will fix any issues i might have. Might cost me more but i can go to there shop and not have someone play phone tag. ..my 2 cents...

 

Installed this one a while a while back, 99% plug and play minus the key sense wire which uses a tap. Otherwise proper lengths, factory fit connectors and factory remote. Truck stays running if you open the door too. The install itself took under 2 hours, nothing complicated just a plug that needs to run from the driver side to the passenger.

Update:: just got off the phone with Chris. Apparently I received a bad harness. At first he was gonna ship me a programmer he had to fix the problem then I mentioned the fobs wouldn’t unlock the doors either. He told me the complete harness was bad and is shipping me a new one.

As opposed to the other member here who had bad luck w Chris, I have had great customer service so far. Let’s hope the next harness works!

Does Fortin offer a 2018 plug n play as well?

Ordered mine today. Sadly, the group discount was not honored (I asked and mentioned Tundras.com 3 times). But Chris did spend time with me on the phone to answer my questions and it'll be at my door Saturday.

 

I have the same one. I feel like it sets the panic alarm off 1/4 of the time. Any ideas why?? If I hit unlock then lock x3 it doesn't but if I hit lock x3 when it's already locked it goes off!! Embarrassing in parking lots...
