Been in the oilfield since 2010, Red Wings is all that I’ve worn. If you around OBM, then it doesn’t matter what you get bc it’ll eat it up within a year but other than that, they are comfortable. The cheap pairs, you get what you pay for. I’m wearing the Irish Setter Pecos Red Wings now. Only pair I didn’t have to break in, hopefully they conditiue this model bc it’s been the best. $170

They are always comfy when you have your feet up huh? :boink:

I never tried them but never hear a bad thing about them. I always have been a fan of Wolverine moccasin toes. No break in period and they would last a year minimum when I was a hard working service plumber, I put them through all sorts of bad shit. I only ever replaced them when they smelled too funky, they never really wore out.

I have those now, as the Justins I had previously the very soft sole wore quickly from the ballast rock along the tracks, so now it's the Wolverines moccasins, just not crazy about the reddish color, wish they came in a brown, also the Wolves insole is crap, like paper thin, so I got some Dr. Scholl's insoles, 100% better

my work boot, when i need it for certain day job activities (refineries, auto plants, heavy manufacturing), are steel toed doc martens. granted, i'm not abusing them every day but they've held up well and are super comfy since i'm running all over hell and back when i'm in them.

USA made red wings are worth every penny. Wedge soles are very comfortable, but have very little traction. On the flip side, vibram soles have great traction, not as comfortable.

The ones I've had have been waterproof from day one.

Be wary, not all are USA made (I dont think Irish setters are).

That's true, I usually swap the insoles out. I like the color but I have seen them in a darker brown too, just gotta look for them.

I work in commercial construction. Being in a trade you learn and you hear guys all day and night talk about comfort and recommendations. I beat the shit out of my boots and so does everyone else. I love my Red Wings but for work. My personal recommendation is Thorogood.

I have my Thorogood Moc Toe wedge sole. Wedge for indoor because They’re gonna be softer on the foot absorb more impact on flat concrete. Great work boot. Made in USA for over 100 years. Proven in the field.

Dressed up and going out on the weekend I put on my Red Wing heritage boots.

Yes. I have had several pairs and they all last at least 3-5 years. I still have two pairs. I usually wear out the leather and have to toss them.

For comparison, I've never had another work boot last more than 12 months.

Like others have said, the first few weeks are rough. I would only wear my new boots for one or two hours a day during the break-in, then swap for the old ones. Doing this keeps discomfort to a minimum.

I can smell a "which boot color is faster" debate coming.

Aren't red wings mostly repairable? Why do people opt to replace?

Some can be recrafted, others not. Cost about $100 to do it. My previous pair was three years old when I replaced them. Nothing wrong with them other than worn out sole and the upper leather had alot of wear.

For me it was putting lipstick on a pig or getting a fresh pair.

Had bad foot pain for a year. Saw a doctor. Short story,,, I have the 607 Red Wings. About $250.00 foot pain is almost gone after 3 months. Don’t throw away your old boots, break in is about 3-4 weeks. Rubbed my heels so I would wear my old boots off and on. Now the Red Wings are great.

Not true I have Irish Setter wing setters and have a pair I still wear in the garden and put new sole's on twice. Have even more out the eyelets and had them replaced with new oem eyelets. Got 4 years of construction work out of them.
