I'm thinking about investing in a pair of red wings for work where I'm in a warehouse on concrete all day. Are they worth it for the price tag?

I had one pair 24 years ago and didn't like how they gripped my heal.

I'm a huge Timberland Pro fan these days.

Oh. FYI. This subject will quickly morph into an oil-like thread. Just sayin'..........

Great boots. My experience is they have a 1-2 week "break-in" period where the first few days are pretty bad. I wouldn't make it through the first few days without changing out of them. After break-in they are great. Not sure for warehouse use, do they have ones advertised as such?

Have had good luck with Wolverine, Justin, and the Timberland Pro. The Pros were great out of box, maybe the least durable.

Best boots on the market. I use Red Wing's cork insole, have them Tuff Toe the seams and swap out the laces for Iron Laces. I average 2 years out of each pair, working roughly 50 - 60 hours a week as a welder. If any job is a test of boots, it's welding. Guys in my shop not using Red Wing need new boots every 6 - 8 months.

In a warehouse, you'll likely get 5 years or more out of a pair of Red Wings.

IMO Red Wings are the best work boots made, but yes they need a break-in period. Definitely worth the price, but probably not necessary in a warehouse setting. Most people I know who wear them are oil and gas industry and if you have ever been on the floor of a drilling rig for 12 hours you definitely want your feet comfortable and protected.

I don't know if they advertise for warehouse specifically but I have foot problems and need a shoe with ankle support and I also do carpentry work and whatnot so having one really good and durable pair of boots is what I'm aiming for.

I'm thinking no. We don't have alot of heavy equipment moving around but we are getting bigger extremely fast so they might make it mandatory in the future.

Being a lineman of sorts, I've had Red Wings and Chippewas my whole career. While the comfort (after break-in as @Deuxlatch mentioned) and safety is top notch, my feet would ache after about 10 hours a day. I tried various insoles with minimal relief. Ventured out and got a pair of Timberland Pro Rigmaster with upgraded 'Anti-fatigue' insoles. Made all the difference in the world, and on my 2nd pair. I highly recommend them or at least the insoles for the best day possible l. The alloy toe keeps the weight down

I used them in a paper mill with steel toes. Other than heavy, they were comfortable and had great support. Break in period sucks, as they eat my heels up. But once broke in and conditioned, they are the best boots I've owned. I've had three pairs, average 5-7 years depending on use.

I will only use Red Wing. I get anywhere from 2 to 3 years out of them, with my job. As far as the break in period goes, i usually leave mine at the store and have them stretched out for me for a few days. Mainly cause i have slip ons not lace ups.

I used to always by red wings then six or seven years ago started buying Irish Setter wing setters. They are made by red wing and they are the most comfortable boot I have ever worn I am also a carpenter by trade.

I’m a timberland pro fan myself. They’ve never let me down and take a beating. I think it comes down to what fits you best. They all have a “break-in” period of sorts.

Ditto on the Irish setters. Super comfy. I have red wings too when I’m working around house. Been wearing danners for quite a while and like them. 10 hrs a day and they very comfortable, heavy though. You get what you pay for.

I use Redwing for work too. The leather 6" are my favorite but as others mentioned the break-in period can be a bit of a bitch!
Otherwise, they last me a good 2 years (I dont wear them everyday) and are nice and comfy after you put a few miles on them.

IMO they are worth it. It’s not like it’s a regular shoe/boot. It’s an investment since you can get them resoled when you need to. (2-5 yrs)

I love my Redwing 6” moc toe. They’ve been resoled twice.

I’m currently wearing my waterproof Irish setters that are super comfy too. The redwings have a longer break in period but the cork footbeds are really hard to beat.

As a sheet metal factory worker that did a career standing on concrete and working in the weld shop I found these to be my boot of choice.
Wolverine Wellington DuraShocks had a really thick and spongy sole with a rounded toe so the weld spatter rolled right off instead of burning the stitching that other boots had.
Easy on ~ easy off ~ the most comfortable boots I ever wore. You won't regret spending a bit extra for good work boots, I promise.

Only things I don’t like about Irish setters are that they are not made in USA and you can’t resole. I chose to spend the extra 150ish and get a better boot that I can have for more than a couple years

Fan of Red Wings. Own a pair of work chukkas 3141 for church, days I work in the office, and everyday wear really. I also wear the Red Wing Rover and /or Blacksmith when I work in the warehouse and big event setups in the field. After break in which for me is typically 4-6 weeks of every other day wear, they form to the bottom of my feet and feel really nice. They are also built with thought and care. Leather, stitching, in soles, outer soles and laces have held up well for me after 2-3 years of wear. My Tundra requires me to wear Red Wing when driving it. LOL

Hoffman Boots....made in idaho, well worth the money, thick leather, soles last plus they are rebuidable....I quit buying red wings after I would only get 6-8 months out of them.
