Since the purchase of the 2016 Toyota tundra we have noticed that the rear window sliding glass area just above where that’s located has a severe leak that when it rains it pours in like a waterfall which is in turn running the seat of the Toyota tundra we purchased. I am looking to see if there is anyone out there who is experienced the same issue and had someone at Toyota tell them it is not a manufacture defect and that they will not pay for it. I am looking to try to get people together who have had this issue so that Toyota will finally pay attention and do something about the Problem that is so clearly a manufacture defect that should be paid for by Toyota. As much as we pay for this truck a month not to include insurance payments on the truck Toyota should be responsible for making sure that this situation is rectified. Please contact me if you can at Shaunab3outlook.com If you have also experienced this problem so that we may start a petition and go after Toyota to make sure it is Taken care of as it should be by Toyota corporate office since it is leading to running the headliner and the seats due to all the water coming in where ever there is a seal broken. We have sealed off where they said if they thought it was the brake light end it has nothing to do with that brake light we have found and proven. Please contact me as soon as you get this if you are experiencing the exact same problem so that we may petition Toyota corporate offices to rectify the problem immediately.
    Thank you and sincerely,
    Shauna & Benjamin Brookman

I don't believe this is a very common issue. Your best bet is going to your dealer and asking them to go to bat with Toyota for you. You're probably not that far out of warranty, so maybe someone at Toyota will be kind enough to take care of you. The engines on these trucks are known to leak oil from the cam towers and Toyota generally won't do anything about that outside of warranty, so a leaky window isn't likely to get much more love. Good luck!

So the leak is from above the rear window? Maybe around the 3rd brake light / cargo light?

I've heard of the 3rd brake lights leaking on some of the 3rd generation Tacomas, but I'm not sure if any Tundras have the same issue.
I'd look there and see if the gasket around the 3rd brake light is pinched, damaged, or missing.

Welcome, I haven't heard of this being common either.

Used 2016? If the gaskets are good, perhaps the previous owner tried to install an aftermarket 3rd brake light and damaged the area?

    Pics would help

heard of it on the Tacomas not the Tundras, maybe similar issue. Not too many places where the water can get in.

I have heard that if you have hit a row of mailbox, a deer, or worse yet an ELK you can spring a leak. Has any of these events happened?

I'm no help. Dry as a bone... Both the rear window and cam towers. My first suspicion was the third brake light as well..

I have a 2016 as well. I am having this same issue with water coming in the 3rd brake light. I've been investigating it online. And it seems there are multiple people with this problem.

3rd brake light makes a little more sense, but not the rear window like the OP mentioned. I'm questioning whether the OP is even legit or not since this was there first and only post/ comment about the issue and they haven't said anything else. Especially since your first post is supposed to be an introduction of yourself.

I get water in my tundra when it rains, mostly when the windows are rolled down. We’re pretty sure that less water gets in with the windows rolled up. Even less, when it is not raining. I’m gonna call Toyota corporate tomorrow and see if they can stop this rain.

For me, I would be replacing the 3rd brake light seal myself and ensuring it had no leaks with a water hose.

Waiting for a vehicle manufacturer to fix this problem is not a first world issue...for them. Having water damage to deal with is a first world problem for the owner.

Does the water collect behind the seat or inside the storage box under the seat? I should check mine tomorrow. I have a '16 DC.

I have another issue when it rains. Water inside the hood. See link below:

    https://www.tundras.com/threads/water-collecting-under-the-hood.63905/

do you guys have this problem also? It rains here a lot so it's not helping.

The dealer replaced my 3rd brake light. Some water still came in. So they ended up replacing the back window. It seemed to fix the problem for about a year and a 1/2. I noticed about 3 months ago water coming in again. I replace the 3rd brake light gasket once again. It did not fix the problem water is still coming in. I am going to try replacing the 3rd brake light housing. Even though the dealer did that at the beginning of this problem. I don't know what else to do.

I would try some water testing.

Even though there is not much room between the window and light, if possible, start by wetting the window seal before allowing the light assembly to get wet. Slow and steady.

Cover the light with plastic and tape in order to isolate it from the window. No masking tape.

No high pressure blasting. Use a tiny trickle of water for the testing.

    Water testing can take time.

    Experiment.

Did you ever resolve the issue? Just bought a 2016 and it appears to have a leak there.
