I'm thinking in this case the tow hitch passed all the force down to the frame where it bent. Yeah it sucks but the truck is still good to go. Not like it's driving sideways on 3 cylinders :)

    Bummerrrr

A couple of good whacks with a hammer and you'll be fine ;)

Also, there's a guy on CL that makes custom bumpers for way cheaper than those. Check him out, gonna have him start me some sliders for Christmas.
    https://denver.craigslist.org/pts/d/custom-bumpers-and-rock/6412300645.html

depending on your insurance I wonder if they'll end up totaling? maybe cut you a check for what it's worth and you can buy it back cheap.

know of a guy that lost his brand new Willy's edition Jeep in Harvey. $30K check was cut to him and he drove down to the lot and bought it back for $5k.

for sure, he quoted me around $400 with $100 upfront for materials. I'm gonna have him make them a little wider so they'll second as steps for my lady

    That is terrific [sarcasm].

Both of these things happened to me when I had my '05 Tacoma, but in two separate wrecks.

The first was shortly after I moved the ND for work and Geico didn't tell me they don't offer "Uninsured Motorist- Property Damage" coverage in that state when I transferred my policy to there from Massachusetts.

A lady with a suspended license and arest warrants hit me with a champagne colored Dodge Durango and gave me false info (false name, license number, phone number and insurance info).

I ended up paying my $1k deductable to get it fixed under my collision coverage. The body shop was crazy fast and had it all in perfect shape in 2 days, but the Geico case agent never answered the phone or responded to the invoice faxes from the body shop. They had the truck for almost two weeks before I reached a supervisor at Geico and payment was finally made. I asked if they would be willing to refund some of my deductable since I was unnessecarily without my truck for two weeks all because of their poor service. They said "no" so I told them I was dropping them and letting all of my friends and aquaintances know how I was treated. They wanted to discuss it futher at that point, but I hung up on them and kept my word.

The police finally found the lady and arrested her. They asked me to testify at her hearing so I took the day off from work and they walked her past me in the waiting area just before the hearing. Ten minutes later they came and told me she was switching to a guilty plea so I didn't need to testify.

She was fined $800 by the county for the traffic violations and warrants and I got nothing, but the satisfaction that she didn't get away with it.

About 5 years later in Washigton a lady wasn't paying attention and rear ended me at a red light in a champagne colored Dodge Durango (Yep. Same vehicle, same color). She was going about 55 mph when she hit me. I was the first in line of a five car pile-up. She hit me so hard it broke my seat recline mechanism, knocked my factory stereo out of my dash and fused the front of my truck to the Kia in front of me. Luckily I saw it coming and put my head back on the headrest and waited for impact. I made it out with only minor sprains in my wrists and feet.

The Dodge was toast, the Kia was dead and traffic was getting dangerously backed up so I let the officer push the Kia out of the road with my truck. The tow truck winched the two apart after they arrived.

That Tacoma never stopped running or lost any fluids through the whole ordeal, but the Durango hit my tow hitch and bent the frame and so the truck was totalled.

I had been seriously thinking about stepping up to a full-size truck, but decided two days earlier that I wanted to just see if I could drive my Tacoma beyond 300k miles. Out of respect for a Tacoma that was taken from this world much too early I bought a Tundra.

I was told by my uncle who owns a body shop in Texas that Toyota and some others heat-treat their frames to strengthen them so once they're bent you can't use a frame machine and a torch to straighten them back out like you can on some vehicles. You just have to replace the frame because any other repair isn't as strong as before.

Yes. The uninsured premium just lists for medical. I think it would go under my collision insurance that has a $600 deductible and doesn’t cover rental car.

So pissed off tonight. Her not having insurance is going to cost me like $2000+.

$600 deductible, $200 per week rental car, $200 replacement car seats, $50 replacement hitch, $200 replacement aftermarket reverse lights, time off work,

And I won’t get any depreciated value and my premium will most likely go up.

Your insurance should pay for new child carseats as part of the property damage. I have a freind who was in a wreck with three child carseats in the vehicle and their insurance paid for three new ones even though they were empty during the wreck.

Most companies will go above and beyond on child related stuff like that because it's a lot cheaper to buy new carseats for everyone in a wreck than it is to handle bad PR if they don't and a child is injured in a carseat that wasn't replaced.

I would ask them about the hitch as well. I bet they will include that under the collision coverage also since it's generally expected that trucks with a towing package also have a trailer hitch.

Think frame repairs or replacement frame is going to be in the $20k range?

Yea it will be small claims I think. Depends on the total cost that I have to go after. Anyone know if my insurance sued them to get covered for what they are paying for me? If so can I tag into that for the extras?

Just heard that the repairs would just need to be half the value of the truck to be totaled. Well without frame repair I was at $4300. So frame repair or replacement would only have to be $6843 to hit halfway.

I'm sure you would strip as much as possible
