Maybe so, but it's still a unreliable Ford.

This one has 100K miles on it now, and he uses the hell out of it. Not one issue besides wear items.

I originally was intending to get a V8 Raptor, and I drove a couple and put a lot of time into researching them. I almost bought a 2013 with fairly low miles, but as I was thinking about it, I decided to check out TRD Pros. I ended up finding a supercharged one and decided I couldn't pass it up. It saved me some $$$ and it's a beast :)

However, I will say that the V8 Raptors are pretty awesome. I would have gone with one had I not found my supercharged Pro. Sure, reliability probably wouldn't have been as good, but IMO the pros of the overall package would have been worth it. The supercharger in my Pro may affect reliability down the road as well, but it's an amazing upgrade for now.

I never seriously considered an Eco Boost Raptor due to the questions regarding the engine and transmission, and also the cost. Also, V8s sound so much better...

The interior on the Gen1 Raptors was OK; probably about the same as a Tundra to me. The Gen2 interiors are definitely nicer though (but for me was not worth the higher cost and other issues). The one thing I do wish my truck had (which the Raptor does) is the air conditioned seats; where I live it would make a huge difference...

I’m not saying the tundra is as good as the raptor just the gap is narrower than people claim. Mines just an SR5 because I bust wanted a basic 4x4. Not really into all the cameras and technology and such but that’s just me.

That doesn't show anything but one persons opinion, and then tries to compare tow ratings to offroad trucks. Nathan is the only one on TFL that bugs me. If he had it his way, a Cummins powered 3500 dually would be out on that trail comparing tow ratings. Then again, you don't see him as much now days on TFL.

Would I buy one? No. This truck is more worthless than tits on a boar for me. Same goes for the Pro. Guess it's all perspective.

Not sure why people can't just acknowledge that the Raptor is a pretty cool vehicle, not their cup of tea, and move on.

I like the 6.2 Raptors, always have. But the V6 Ecoboost still hasn't proven itself in a truck application. I like Ford products in general. I've had a couple, Ranger and F250 in the last 10 years, loved them both. My #1 bud has an F250 and a Focus ST. The F250 is a V10, manual trans, going on 200k miles, no issues, this truck is wheeled, takes road trip, and hauls regularly. His wife DD's the ST, it's a 2013, about 150k on the clock, only regular maintenance.

Every brand has issues. I have loyalty to Toyota and I consider myself a Toyota fan, but they've also had they're share of shit products. I roll my eyes anytime someone makes a blanket statement about why brand X is so much better than brand Y. How can a major manufacturer allow rust/corrosion problems to go on for so many years through different model lines? Why are Prius batteries only lasting 100k miles? Why are Toyota Hybrids having inverter failures so many years after the technology was first developed? Why are the cam towers on the 5.7 still an issue?

There's an '11 Raptor for sale near me, original owner, 75k miles, $31k. Beautiful truck, still hard to justify the cost. That's $10k more than I paid for my 10' Tundra with 66k miles last year. If I dumped $10k into the Tundra it would be more capable and still be a Toyota. But it's truly just not the kind of truck that I need right now.

I love the 1st gen raptors, was on a waitlist to get a 2nd gen before I bought my tundra. Two things pushed me over:

    1. The 3.5 wasn't doing it for me, despite how fast it is.

    2. If I was going to spend $68k on a truck, it would be a F250 platinum diesel.

I had the Raptor--the 6.2 and the 3.5 eco and I had the Diesel--2 of them. The Raptor was screwed up with the 3.5--made it faster but brought in all new issues. They should have stuck with the 6.2.
The diesels have been jacked up by the epa crap on them--they stutter and sputter trying to regen. Only way to have a diesel is delete it.

Diesel Raptor or Diesel F150? Had 2 diesel F150's when they've only been available for a year?

Agree they should have stuck with the 6.2 and made improvements to an already solid engine.

they do not make a diesel raptor--it had the big v8 in it. i had two diesel f-250's. The diesel engine is crap with the epa/def restrictions. Avoid at all costs.

I had the 18 gen 2; got rid of it after 6 months; engine was backfiring for no reason; gave up on the eco; it looks great inside and out; didn't care for the engine overall; good gas mpg and power, but could not deal with the backfiring

I have a Ford loving friend that bought a loaded one for some ungodly amount and it has been at the dealership more than his house. No thanks.

Key difference is you can buy tundras well under MSRP. For me it was about a $23k difference between my 1794 discounted and a 802a raptor tech pkg at MSRP with sunroof. That buys a LOT of mods.

"Almost anything can be done with enough time and money" Just for argument sake I could buy ANY truck and pump money into a custom suspension and motor and match or beat the raptor, this truck for example+ super charger (52,000) would give the raptor a run for its money. https://www.autotrader.com/cars-for-sale/vehicledetails.xhtml?listingId=486018214

Keep in mind that the 5.7 is no slouch when super charged.

p.s I am not a "fan boi" I went to buy a 2018 RAM new last year and somehow came home with a 2013 Tundra.... :)

This looks sexy as hell. One of the main reason I ever bought a pickup truck after years of having German V8s and V12 sedans. After driving it last week, 3.5v6 Ecoboost is impotent. They shoulda stayed with V8 Raptor or perhaps Fords powerful Diesel in a Raptor.

I heard baby Raptor is coming soon. May be V6 will work better on a smaller body.

Ya, That's what I heard which makes me cry that the v6 ecoboost that I drove was actually faster than the the old v8 Gen1. It does sound good like a sportier Honda civic but my supercharged Tundra will beat the hell out of Gen1&2 Raptor combined.

I don't want to talk about how great and reliable Toyota is. If you want reliability, get a Camry. I have never been a brand loyalist and never will be. I mostly change the make when I m changing cars not the models. Forget about the reliability and Toyota name and how safe life is at cruising speeds BS. Raptor really needs a v8 to be classified as a sporty truck cause it got everything else already.

    I love them both.

The Raptor is bad ass. I don’t trust it’s reliability for 72k. (72k is what MSRP on 90% of raptors is with add ons) it does also sound like shit. But it drives amazing, it’s fast as hell stock, has an amazing suspension, looks mean mean mean. Very nice tech gadgets. Good creature comforts. Definitely a very well done job by ford. The Gen2 is milessss nicer than the gen1. It will never get a large V8 again. 7.0 is all lies. The truck is designed for jumping and desert running. Lighter the engine the better. However, it could have gotten a TT coyote and that would have been amazing!!!! Kudos to ford for continuing the design for what it’s for. The Eco makes a ton of sense in the truck to lighten it up.

The TRD pro is a dinosaur. That’s a good and bad thing. It’s still ridiculously expensive for what it is. 53k with the right additions for most of us. It lacks a ton compared to the Raptor. It loses in every single way aside from reliability. Which is a huge deal. And the raptor could hold up just fine, who knows?

By the time you take a TRD pro and add a supercharger, beef up the suspension, wheels and tires, clearance bumpers. You could
Have bought a raptor. Now, I think the tundra would Be a more capable machine, but you would lack the creature comforts the raptor has.

Currently where we sit right now. 2019 TRD PRO vs. Gen 2 raptor. The ford wins in just about every single way. Raptor owners laugh at the capability of the TRD pro.

Don't waste your money and get a TRDpro. Buy an SR5, do all of the above and more = TRDPRO/Raptor Beater.

The pro isn’t really a waste of money. For one it’s body color, has a nice exhaust, comes with leather, fair - good suspension.

If you want to get a Raptor look you need to start with a Pro. People who make their SR5 tundra look like a pro, to me are just as bad as the ford guys making their lariat look like a raptor. If you get an SR5 mod it, but don’t copy cat a TRD pro. It’s silly imo

And really the raptor is designed for one specific purpose. To ride on uneven terrain fast and handle jumps. The tundra with the heavy 5.7 will never be as agile as the raptor in it’s playing ground. The eco has much better torque responses at all rpm and is far lighter.

I want the tundra to be better, but the fact of the matter is we are talking stock vs. stock. Completely factory warrantied. That’s a huge draw when buying a vehicle like this. To have it specifically design for that truck and have the manufacturer behind it. Sorry to say, I love toyota, but no way a tundra wins this battle. And for around 15-17k more. The raptor does bring a lot to the table as far as tech, ride comfort, and stock ability on and offroad.

It should be noted. I hate ford, so this is hard for me to say. I just know a good truck when I see one, and the raptor is hard
To fault. The 3.5 has been doing really well
