I would think the overall MPG would even out between the 5.7L and the 3.5 Ecoboost if both truck owners put a trailer behind them. I am assuming its because the Ecoboost is in boost a bunch while towing that leads to its low mpg performance in the towing category. 2 or 3 mpg imo really isn't that much to be honest and wouldn't affect my purchase decision personally putting all manufacturer problems aside.

Lol ya. No offence to the new member but 2 posts total I had to check more facts. My buddy just traded his problem ridden 2015 F150 in for a 2019 Tundra. Same with my cop neighbour, had issues with his Plat F150 and got a more practical 2019 Odyssey for his growing family.

I'm like you, maybe less annual mileage although I'm sure for some of us here, it does add up.

I'm looking at pretty much everything except Ram. I had an experience with Chrysler over 30 years ago that eliminated them for me forever. Maybe stupid on my part but f me once shame on you, f me again shame on me.

Just to clarify, I was talking about highway miles as stated in my original post. But I agree with a few of the posts above - if you're only driving 10K miles a year in the city, the MPG difference is negligible. Also when pulling a trailer - probably no difference between an F150 or Tundra.

For me - I drive about 18K a year mostly highway, and yes I do believe there is a 5+ MPG difference. With those numbers and gas at $2.75, you're looking at an extra $600 a year. Not trying to turn this into another millage discussion, just saying most rational people would consider the added cost of ownership with the tundra.

For me - I like the Tundra BETTER. Just staring thoughts from a potential buyers point of view.

Wow, that's awful, I don't blame you. I have a co-worker who asked what kind of MPG I am getting in my Tundra, when I told him I'm getting mixed 16/17 MPG, he laughed and said he was lucky to get 15 in his Ecoboost 2.7 F150.

I don't believe your numbers. I get 17-18 on flat highways at 70. My brother gets 16 in his 5.0 F150

Okay so you expect me to believe that an F150 rated at 23MPG highway by the EPA is only getting 16? That's more believable that me just attaining the exact same estimate as it's rated for?? Either something is seriously wrong with his truck, or more likely he has a previous generation without the new transmission and is doing 80 the whole time.

Just stating some real world experience I have had with the F150. The EPA estimates are what they are (23 for the F150 & 17 for the tundra - highway), and I don't think there is some vast conspiracy about them unlike many of the owners here.

8MINT8 - You're probably right. You should get most of that back in lower depreciation anyway.

You gotta pay to play. That's the only thing people ever complain about a Toyota! You know what you were getting into when you buy a Tundra and it ain't for the gas savings!

The other month, my coworker just came back from his southwest trip, he drove his 2017 F150, he said he manually calculated and got 19mpg average. Not 23, no 22, not even 21.

Last year during Nov when I drove my truck from Portland to the bay area ca, I got 18mpg , on the way back i got 17. That's exactly what EPA says I should get. Manually calculated too.

His ford should be getting better than 19, southwest is all open terrain. no stop-go traffic.

Dodges were the bottom of the barrel for the longest time, especially their diesels. They were the laughing stock of the truck market. So many returns and buybacks.

Its a good thing that dodge is now moving in the right direction. If the brainchilds of Toyota don't have their heads in their asses, they will identify and break down the issues causing this swing, and retool

    Don't hold your breath though.

Fyi, i would still by a Tundra. Now if i need an hd in the future, it becomes a different story.

Thànks, I was getting ready to ask that very question. That's about the same as my Tacoma at those speeds.

Google “2019 Ram 1500 recalls”; its difficult to believe that dodges “is now moving in the right direction”. The quality level on their trucks is laughably low....

New neighbor's wife has a white Sequio. Best color and has a Pro grille. His buddy ir brother has a white Tundra like mine. He has a big ole 3/4 ton Dodge. I asked him about and he said it gas had way too many recalls and trips back to dealer.

I did the math in driving a pickup that gets a 5 mpg difference. I put 18k miles a year last year on my SUV. Gas is $2.78 a gallon. If I get a 3/4 ton that gets 13 mpg instead of a 1/2 ton that gets 18 mpg, then it will cost me an extra $90 a month for fuel costs. That's significant.

Yeah, lots of variables for sure. Gas at Sam's here is about $2.15. And we take my wife's ES pretty much everywhere if I don't have to have the truck so I put low miles on my truck.

Just dodge the dodge POS... and the MPG are not that far off if you have a similar set up. Only value peoples opinions on MPG if they are 40+ and have owned a couple of trucks.

I'm sure you can get 22 mpg in an Ecoboost....you just have to make sure the trip you're on is entirely downhill and you stay at a constant 45 mph with absolutely no stopping from beginning to end.

Simply not true. I didn't intend to become the F-150 defender here because I like the Tunrda more... but the fords really do get 22+ MPGs on the highway in NORMAL driving. TFL tested the ecoboost on a highway loop and got 23: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ogfcSTueTAw
