I was crawling under my truck inspection time... hit 10k miles a week ago so... looking around and found these nice little beauties.

My 2017 Tacoma had this same thing and after 3 attempts at fixing it Toyota gave up and bought it back.

I don’t know. It was with the 3rd gen Tacomas. Toyota recalled about 225,000 of them.

Sorry about your troubles big guy, I doubt it’s the axle, I’d be willing to bet the “mechanic” isn’t doing something right or getting in a hurry.

Just a little seeping, I would just monitor it. Probably from the same type of machine that applies the sealant to the cam towers.

Any seepage, weeping, leaking it’s all the same. It shouldn’t be happening on a new vehicle with 10k miles on it.

How is it possible they couldn’t fix that? You pull the diff, reseal and button it back up. :notsure:

If water was seeping into your boot your foot would get wet and you’d want new boots.

They can fix it. They fixed my Tacomas replaced the gasket “fixed it” then it started leaking again. They replaced the gasket again it started leaking again. So after replacing the gasket twice and it leaking each time they put a shit tone of RTV gasket maker and tried to call it good.
478D857A-3BCE-424F-BD73-DA8D69971093.jpg I didn’t wait to see if it started leaking again. It didn’t even have 10k miles on it had been in the shop 13 times and I didn’t have my truck for 38 days of the 18 months I owned it.

It just is odd that a dealer would do that. Toyota makes millions of axles without gooping in rvt like that and they don’t leak. Either it’s not a smooth surface or they arent torqued properly?

I think the surface was bad from the beginning. Gasket maker works but it’s not a permanent fix it will leak again.

I didn't think there was a gasket there, usually just black RTV.

Had a Tacoma myself and it also had it’s issues which is why we have the Tundra now.

Mine wasn’t as bad as this guys. His dealer really put it on thick.

tech/dealer was probably lazy and didn't want to really diagnose the issue.
