Joining the club. Owned my black platinum for 5 months before it happened. Noted that I did have truck in driveway on a hot day. Opened drivers back door and felt it catch and saw rear door trim start pulling away. Closed door and said "shit". Note that it chips paint on drivers door and that needs touch up when you get repairs.

3/3 for me too. Got it repaired twice and today it expanded. It’s only 77 degrees. Was in the sun and bend back off tape. This time hopefully they place it even further back. Only had truck 10 months.

Look how much it expands when in sun. Last night it was 1/2 inch apart.

Update. Went to dealership and will be moving it back a little compared to previous outline. Maybe 1/8 an inch as the expansion in sun is about 1/8 and will hit front door when open and 77 out

Finally got mine fixed today (first time). Covered under warranty without any trouble.

My dealer was great. Replaced all 4 moldings and it looks really nice. Time will tell but I’m optimistic.

I had my replaced but notice it will expand about 1/16 to 1/8 an inch. If it is In line with the door it will catch on heat. Make sure it’s a little back from door frame. Mine was in line with door and that is what happened above on a direct sun 77 degree day. Dealership agreed after 3
Times to move 1/4 inch back

they did make some small dents in the process so now going back

Well I have a 2024 and the problem is still happening. Drivers rear door was loose when I picked it up and it seems to seperate from the door when it gets warm out. In FL that is every day. Dealer has ordered replacements and just waiting on them to come inPXL_20231027_121812300.PORTRAIT.jpg

They moved mine back because it would expand 1/8 inch and catch front door in heat. Now about 1/4 an inch back. Have not had any issues with coming off tape other than when it hits the door. Live in South Carolina so had several 100 degree days. Time will tell. Watch closely because when they removed mine they scraped and dented the door.

And now my newly installed door trim is pulling away from the doors. Adhesive not great. Toyota does trucks well, not plastics.

Dealer offered to replace my side moldings again. I'm not sure I love these side moldings enough for more trial and error on if they will last long term (clearly they won't). So I'm thinking of removing the side moldings and just adding a simple "Tundra" or the 2nd Gen Platinum badge to the drivers/pass doors. Just sharing for those dealing with these darn molding issues as well. Anyone on here already do this? Remove side moldings on a platinum?

I am about to. Had a car turn into me and the entire left side needed repainted. I had them leave the left off to see thoughts and pick up tomorrow. The right side has dents from replacing so going to get that repaired and most likely ask for the other side. It looks more blacked out. Can always add on down the road or put a tundra decal. I have had these replaced 4 times as they kept having to move further back on door. Also spoiler plastic is now digging into my tailgate when sun expands. This plastic is an endless battle. If you take off you can always just add on later or resell and new owner can add them on.

This is actually a great idea. Take them off and decide later. Thank you I'm going this route.

Finally got the call today that my replacement molding is in. Appointment is scheduled for next week. So took about 2 months for the part to be ordered and delivered to the dealership. Now the question is, will they try and make me pay for it? I’m prepared to call Toyota customer care if I need to, I’m not paying a dime for poor design issues.

FWIW replacing them wasn't a great solution either. Mine were and now the adhesive is not adhering in parts so I'm sure it will only get worse. I do think they look nice but the darker trucks are more of an issue it seems and may think of alternatives. The simple "TUNDRA" and "Platinum" emblems from last generation are an idea I'm thinking on.

I took my off they come off in heat from glue or expand! If you do put them on put the back one 1/4 inch back or more or they hit. I’m having dealership fix the dents from removing and keeping them off. That’s why trd pro does and it looks clean

Also spoiler expands and causes paint chips on tailgate so that’s also a spoiler fix and repaint and Toyota is aware and working on solution.

Just left the dealer with a loaner. They successfully replaced the broken part, but in the process of removing the old one the tool they used created a bunch of little dents in the door. Now they are fixing the dents they made. In the meantime I’ll settle for an SR5 with the TRD package. Thankful my dealer was at least honest enough to point this out, I probably wouldn’t have noticed if they had me just come and pick it up.

The dents in the door?? I've seen this posted more then once. while other posts mention that you can just pull them off with heat and light pulling. Seems odd

I know….not thrilled about it. Where I’m located we just had a snow/ice storm, so when I brought the truck to the dealer this morning they told me they were going to have to heat the truck up to get all the ice off first, then take the molding off. My guess is they were getting impatient and decided to start trying to take it off anyways, then after getting it off realized they left dents behind. Now I have to wait until their “dent guy” comes next week.

We have an ice event here too. My dealer is replacing mine next week. The dent my ish in the process they can keep it after all I been through. Love the truck but I'll just get a different one without the dumb plastic issues. Still no update on the tailgate issues, but I'm sure they will have a fix in time. Do not repaint your gate, I did and it came back.

Had my ‘22 door badge trim replaced at the dealership due to it peeling back at the edges. As other people have posted, the dealership said it was under factory warranty so there was no charge. They replaced both sides at no cost to me.

I’ve had my Platinum for 3 months and I had the rear door driver side snap off in exactly the same way. Exactly like the pictures in the very first post in this thread. Wondering if the right answer is to just remove them all and be done with it.

For those that have removed these, what did you use to get rid of the left over tape residue?

Use a heat gun to loosen up the leftover adhesive. Most of it will peel/roll off. Anything left, use something like Goo Gone or better yet some 3M Adhesive Remover.

Mine are starting to separate from the truck. They haven't touched or broke, but the adhesive is failing.

With the constant expansion and contraction, they are bound to fail. Every single one, just a matter of time.
