so this badge issues is a multi part problem.

    1) the plant is putting them too close together
    2) the black badges absorb way more heat than the others and that’s why we see them bending out and breaking more often
    3) they are LONG and the ends can peel. Mine I double tapped with 3m’s primo vhb tape and the passenger side front door is lifting at the edge facing the back of the cab

Still not resolved, I just noticed my passenger side platinum badge peeling off. Took delivery today and didn't notice it at the dealership but was aware thanks to this forum. No trouble with breaking yet but just the big badge piece lifting from paint. Will most likely remove these anyway due to all the temperature variants up here.

I'll keep an eye on it but I imagine a few car washes will make my job easier. ;)

I just removed my chrome 1794 door moldings and bought the black platinum ones. My initial observation is that the platinum moldings are a lot less ridged than the 1794 and feel like they're a lot cheaper plastic.

just happened yesterday, 100 temps, truck is parked in the sun at work. Trim must be expanding slightly due to heat, it has never been an issue until it got hot, the edges hit and rub each other while in the heat and direct sun, not so later if in the garage.

My rear drivers side trim just snapped off like all the others here. Dealer manager said not covered under warranty (2023 platinum). Service writer covered as a good wiil gesture one time only. seems like a 100 percent warranty issue to me. And the new replacement trim was installed further back to avoid interference. Also did some quick research finding plastics are 8-9 times more prone to expand in heat compared to metals and their alloys. First post here; new member.

Got my truck Saturday and went to make an appointment today for my trim after my passenger rear door snapped. Talked to the collision center guys and they are seeing alot of these. I guess they have a template and are going to remove all 4 pieces and position everything correctly. All covered under warranty.

If the dealership pulls this nonsense again if it pops, I would call Toyota care and I'm sure corporate will be able to explain to the Dealer manager that it is indeed covered under warranty. Just got mine replaced on drivers rear last week and at first they didn't know if it would be covered and said they would call if it isn't, but when I picked it up not a word about it.....just sign here saying we did the warranty work so we can bill Toyota for the work. No mention to me of this is a one time fix...if it breaks again they'll replace it again or pull them off completely. Dealerships simply just suck, so don't listen to their nonsense and just involve corporate to make them do their job. Rant over...for now.

ours is still going strong on our 23 platinum (8-dec-build)

this week we hit the mid/high 90's for temps and still hasnt snapped. but our temps are usually lower during the summer than most states. last week it was in the high 70's low 80's due to constant on/off raining.

While waiting to get my truck in to get this fixed, my driver side has now fell victim. I have notice both events happened in 90+ heat after sitting in direct sunlight.

Mine just happened as well, was fine until exposed to a hot day in direct sunlight. The molding on the drivers side rear door contacted the front door and snapped when I opened the back door. I've had the truck since Dec '22 and this just happened this month.

I'd be pissed too if this happen to my truck. I'm so luck I am cheap and only wanted an SR5 which not only was much less expensive but also does not have the extras that somehow aren't really all they are cracked up (pun intended) to be. The Mothership will fix this for you until your warranty runs out or they pull their head out of their ass and figure out critical clearances. Just remove the damn thing and move on - probably what Toyota will decide in the end anyway.

Happened to me last week (driver’s side). Bought my ‘23 Platinum 2 months ago and have 4K on it. I’ll try to bring it into the dealer this week, hoping that this won’t become an ongoing issue…

For anyone with a hot state, even if yours hasn't broken, push on the front of the spear and see if it sticks then lets go. I noticed the gaps when cleaning my doors and sure enough, it was starting to come un-stuck. After having already read about the door badge issues here, I decided to just remove them. Kind of sucks because I sorta liked them but I wasn't going to keep messing with a flawed design that might have issues again. Wife and kids said removing them makes my truck look less pawpaw old man so I guess that's a bonus lol.

Edit: Purchased truck 3 weeks ago but until recently its been 110F or higher daily.

from what i can tell, northern tier states dont have as much issues (only thing i can think of is the slightly cooler climate), but thats just speculation. i know on our plat, we have not had any issues.
