I just looked at my 1794. Not a lot of clearance ....maybe 1/8". Wonder if its a heat related thing as I am in Canada and its not warm right now

Mine has not broken, spacing seems to be ok, but it does seem like the taper is the wrong angle and should be the opposite way for extra clearance.PXL_20230305_164904322.jpg PXL_20230305_164844709.jpg

No problems with mine as of yet but its only a couple of weeks old. IF mine were to break, I would take them off and leave them off, debadged looks better in my opinion.

Frustration is more so that I just bought a brand new $70k vehicle . Should not have this issue in 2023.

I agree 100% but I / me, knew going in the Platinum trim has been an issue, so for me It's an easy fix if it breaks, I'll take the Platinum trim off both doors, for me it looks cleaner.
I bought my truck knowing this is the first year and there is going to be growing pains but knowing somewhere down the road Toyota will find fixes, make changes and all would be right with the world!

funny part the i force max badge on the hood looks really clean w/o it on the hood. too bad toyota had to put holes under the hood attachment to make it stick.

Dealership is telling me that they have to paint the doors to replace the trim piece. I don’t want my brand new truck to have repainted panels. Options?

I have the same exact problem, passenger side/rear door. Broke just like the posted photo's. Dealer told me they had over 1000 backordered parts to fix this. Clearly a universal problem. Only on the passenger side so far.

Maybe since black has a higher thermal absorptivity, and the chrome a higher reflectivity, the black heats up more and that heat works through the plastic to the double sided tape beneath? The chrome would reflect most of that heat away?

I took my platinum trim off 2 weeks after purchase, love the cleaner look. Hairdryer loosened up the adhesive and very little left to get off. Wheels and tires tomorrow if they fit before the 3” TRD lift on Wednesday. IMG_1995.jpg

This looks clean! Seeing this picture made up my mind. Taking them off today for sure lol I drove off the lot with 2 miles on the car yesterday and this morning it happened on the rear driver side door. Ridiculous but it is what it is. Did you use any other products to get the adhesive off or just the heat from hairdryer?

Just started at the back end and worked forward, the hairdryer really helped loosen up the adhesive. What was left I used my finger to roll it up and remove. When all done applied a little 3M adhesive remover to get off the very light film the adhesive left behind. I’m very happy with the results. Going to wrap the smoked chrome mustache in black and leave the grill alone, will post pics when done. Good luck. I love this

Got a 2023 platinum model. Had my molding rub a few days ago. At first I thought someone shifted my molding to a point that they touch. After trying to move it. It didn’t budge at all. So I just gave up and went about my day. Later that night I was looking again and the gap went back to normal. I remember that day one side of my truck was in direct sunlight. So today I tested out a theory. I parked one side to face the sun and that when I notice that the heat actually expanded the moulding. And I measured the gap on both sides (pictures added) so on a hot day before opening the doors. Check ur moulding (if it’s still there) and see if they touch or over lap. Let me know if my theory is correct.

I'm so glad I came across this....on Monday I parked at a store, got out of my car, cane back and before I opened the drivers door I noticed the trim bent just like the photo that started this thred. I know for a fact this had to have happened sometime from leaving home to stopping at store because it's noticeable when you go to enter car. My husband was with me and he stayed in car when I went into store and he said no one parked anywhere near us. Then I thought maybe my purse strap grabbed the corner but that didn't seemed plausible. We were stumped. Then my husband mentioned it could be a defect and to search if other owners have same issue. I couldn't believe how many other Tundras with same issue and it appears to be issue with the midnight black metallic (or darker colors in heat).

I just came back from dealership and they ordered a replacement trim. Thanks to this thred, I didn't have to prove anything.

I can join the club now.... Just had it happen last week on the drivers side...bent the rear piece back and forth till it broke off so it didn't cause any more damage. Stopped by local dealership to tell them about it (the service tech had no idea what I was talking about). Told me to schedule an appointment online or over the phone then I asked if I could just do it in person seeing how ya know I'm already here....oh yeah sure I guess we can do that.... soonest was about 2-ish weeks out and I know they won't have the part to fix it so no idea why I need an appointment for them to tell me they don't have the part (2+ weeks out probably because you have to do two appointments to fix an issue). Stopped by this dealership a couple times for parts and had a good experience till now, so thats a bummer. We will see how this goes and might have them fix it once and if it does it again I'll have them pull them off both sides.

Is this platinum specific or does it also happen on the 1794?

This is happening to my 2023 Tundra Platinum and I notice it happening on whatever side the sun is shining, it's as if the sun is expanding the trim/door just enough to touch the front door upon opening the rear door. Quite frustrating!!!

All they would have to do is reverse the angle of that back door piece. My GMC had similar trim and the back was angled back, not forward.

You'd think toyota would've made ad update by this point, so many of these issues, even on the 2023,

Looks cleaner when you just remove it anyway especially on dark trucks.

    That's nasty sick!
That is exactly what I want to replicate all matte blacked out but leave the edition in chrome how it is,the hood badges are 90% black with a hint of chrome, chrome has always been apart of any vehicle a little bit for accents are fine but God damn they drowned these trucks in it...

My apologies for jacking this thread but these door spear failures has gotta be from poor placement, 2X tape quality or even the plastic quality.
Ya gotta wonder did the tech who applied it and the and the QC Dude fell asleep at the wheel or both of them...
One would think/hope that a such a simple procedure shouldn't fail on quite a bit of trucks I mean really you don't need a road scholar to figure this one out,its not the Manhattan Project WTF already.
it's the icing on the cake the representation of your company you want it perfect for all to see your creation and be proud of it,not getting your balls busted by your competition for door badges getting bound up and falling off.
That's a kick in the nuts.
