The people around me can ask me to be responsible if they would like, but they never have and never will. I've proven to be a very responsible person in the 37 years in my life.
Every person, every homestead, every situation is unique. Don't push your opinion over my rights.

I lock all my firearms up in a safe but I have young children and it would be completely irresponsible to have a firearm unsecured and accessible to children. I could gain access quite quickly if need be. This is MY situation and everyone is unique.

Don’t buy a mall ninja toy. You won’t walk right for a month.

I keep all of my guns locked up in safes now. I also keep ammo in a separate safe. Before I had children, my home was my safe. Hell, I even had a shorty pistol grip shotgun mounted over my door, ready to party. If someone really wanted in a gun safe, it wouldn't be too hard to get into it. I have safes to keep my guns locked away from the kids.

A safe that is easily broken into is a cheap safe..and if you buy a cheap safe, its safe to say you are a cheap ass...but hey at least you tried. A long time ago before i ever bought my first long gun i bought a cheap safe..Now i have a safe that i would love to see a dindu try to break into..A Superior Untouchable...aint happening.
And can we also say that is smartest to keep your guns locked up when you are away from home? I dont think the criminals had cordless cut off tools and pry bars did they? If they did and the safe is quality..they would be there a long long time trying. Yea its your right to keep your guns unsecured in your home whenever but is it really smart to not secure them when you leave? Thats my thoughts and not trying sound like a dick.

I wonder what kind of safes the Colonials had?

There must have been kids and teens killing everyone. I often wonder how the human species made it.

RLHOK, I’m hoping your insurance will lump in the damage to your firearms so you can get your gear back to the way it was. You’ve made me want to call my insurance company and ask about this situation because one thing I do know is no matter how well you think you’re prepared it could happen to anyone.
Shit, Rob Gronkowski had his place burglarized while he was playing in the SB and had numerous firearms ripped off and I would have to believe he had security.
And take this for what it’s worth but I have several friends in law enforcement and have asked many times and the consensus is that most security alarm calls are LOW priority due to the fact that there are so many false alarms coming from the homeowner themselves.
Anyway, good luck. I know I would feel violated and the mental side of this shit would be the hardest to overcome so I feel your pain.

Wow what a shit show.. with that being said.

First my home was secured and locked, now most of us know that only a honest person will never know if your doors are locked or not.

Second, the people who broke the law, by breaking into my home, entering my home, going thru my property and removing my property from my home are to blame, period the end. I broke no laws in the way my firearms were stored, your mileage may vary depending on where you reside.
Responsible gun owners have "safes" huh, you know I hear that phrase "responsible gun owners" thrown around a lot, from those folks that want to ban AR15s and other firearms, well if you are a responsible gun owner you don't need those types of weapons.
As for my rifles, the two of them took me several years of saving to build. Yes build. You see I am not a millionare or wealthy, just a guy who works doing my best to make it in this world, like it or not. I guess the thought process of some here is you can only own a firearm if you have thousands of dollars to throw at high tech cameras, recorders, safes etc...what a joke.
Do not have a safe there fore I should give up my rights to self protection from criminals and a if needed a government that turns on its people, wow, amazing. No thanks.
I shared my story so others could see what a person goes thru who has had their house broken into.
As for a alarms system well that my work in a large city, but I live out of town, and when I called dial a prayer, I mean 911, no units were available, not county or state, I was told by the operator, you are on your own, handle it. Second call made when I caught one of the thieves, same thing sir, we cannot help you, we do not have a eta, you will have to handle it. So I handled it.
So the alarm argument is out the window, that day it took over 30 minutes for the deputies to come on scene, 30 long fucking minutes, in 30 minutes your house could be cleaned out, you and family murdered, house set on fire and the bad guys gone bye bye.

My insurance has a $1000 deductible so all repairs are on me, no biggie. Windows are going to be replaced by the warranty coverage from the seller/installer I found out today.

Now with all that said, am I looking at taking some other measures, yes I am, as I can afford them, oh but wait that's right since I cant afford them right now I should give up my rights, silly me....

And yes I drive a tundra and carry a 500,000/750,000/500,000 insurance policy. I also have a $1,000,000.00 umbrella policy you would be surprised and how little this costs. But then again I should go be poor elsewhere.

And yes not everyone can afford a alarm system and high tech gadgets to depend on. I know a lot of folks that bust their asses for every dollar they make and do the best they can with what they have.

No reasonable argument can be made against any of that IMHO. Level-headed comments, well said.

Yesterday I had a little party. Some of the people that attended posted on this very thread. Some of these awesome people had these sex trophies we often call kids. Were my weapons inoperable? Sure. Coffee, soda, beer, liquor, hail...what could go wrong?

This has turned into a shit show Rich. If you delete your first post, this thread goes away.

Do I think you need a safe? No. I have some very low cost ideas that can secure/hide your weapons and get everything pretty cheaply right at Home Depot. PM me or message me on bookface.

Just get some ADT stickers and signs ($30) and a cheap safe. I'd say over 90% of burglaries these days are crackheads and teens. Most of them will move onto the next house if they see an alarm sticker on your window. And if they're still stupid enough to still break in, they're highly unlikely to have the tools or knowledge to break into even the cheapest of gun safes.
