You can use regular ol rust oleum, but then people look at you like your truck is about to burst into flames due to slight plume of smoke. On the bright side, it holds up really well. Not recommend unless you want your truck to possibly catch on fire. :bananadead:

I had about 1/2 of can left over after (4) calipers, but only had the time and patience to paint 2 coats. It is tedious work painting by hand and took me about 30 minutes for one coat on each caliper. I would imagine the spray paint is an easier job. The single small can of brake cleaner wasn't enough for me and I used another large can from Advance Auto.

Sorry, missed this question and Thanks for the compliment:
I don't profess to being an expert on painting calipers, but here's what I did to prep.:
    * Used the brake cleaner supplied with the kit and one more can to clean the calipers.
    * While wet with cleaner, I used a small wire brush to try and clean-off any extra dust/dirt.
    * Probably not necessary, but used a rag with rubbing alcohol to wipe off the calipers and just to be sure of good paint adhesion.
    * Taped-off completely around the calipers, rotors, and dust shield using 3M 2" painter's tape (if you spray, you'll need to tape-off more area, of course).
    * Taped-off the rubber caliper parts and bolt heads.
    * Taped-off the caliper opening where you access the brake pads for replacement.
    * Taped-off the front-facing S.S. brake pad shield on the rear brake caliper.
    * Taped-off speed sensor cable and brake line leading to caliper.
    * Of course, you will see there's places you just can't reach since the calipers are still bolted to the mounts. For the rear brakes, I did remove the front mount bolt, loosen the rear bolt, and tilted the calipers back for max. access. I left the front calipers alone and as mounted.

Best of Luck and send us pictures when you're done!

I did mine using VHT also. This paint is long-lasting and forgiving.

I recently painted my calipers with VHT on my 2010, followed by baking to cure the paint, and personally, I will never use that paint again. I've had beyond good luck with G2 and I should have never switched. Live and learn. IMHO there is no comparison between regular caliper pain and G2 when it comes to durability and chip resistance.

This is the best way in my opinion. Less mess than spray paint and dries up fast.

I end up using a rattle can, high temp black gloss. I didn’t want the silver calipers to show through. Even on the black wheels, if kinda stick out like a sore thumb.
