I’ve had the ARE-Z topper on my 2018 for the past couple of years and it wore the paint down to the bare metal nearly all the way around the perimeter of the truck bed outside of and under the plastic bed rail caps. It’s starting to rust a tiny bit too and I’m looking for some solutions.

Had I known this would happen I would have never bought that specific topper, but hey it looked slick AF.

-getting the bed rails repainted (whole perimeter and under the plastic trim) is going to cost ~$3k

-alternatively I thought maybe of getting that area Line-X’d and it'd be $600…way cheaper…but then the bed rail caps wouldn’t go back on too well (or at all) because you’re effectively raising it up a few millimeters by the thickness of the Line-X.

Any ideas?? I’m about to get a GoFastCamper installed and need to figure something out soon.

I had a Go Fast Camper. You might contact their engineering support to see if/how installation will work if you don’t have the stock bed cap rails. The surface you have the materials they use for installation might affect dust or water intrusion. My guess is they have installed on just about everything by now and would have a point of view. The other thing to consider is that taking off the GFC is not too hard. It does take 4 people to lift safely but it’s not complicated. I did it twice and went pretty smooth. You could go cheap now and rethink later…

I actually reinstalled the oem bed rail guards / plastic trim after I raptor lined underneath. Turned out great.
