$3.49 at the pump on Thursday. I dusted off the heated gear and broke out the motorcycle yesterday afternoon and rode to work in 80degree weather. I was expecting it to be cold for the ride home a 4a.m. this morning but came out to a 66 degree ride. Windy, but nice weather to ride. I'll take the 44mpg over the 14mpg for now. Repeat today as far as weather, but a chance of rain in the morning. My bike doesn't know when it's raining. All is good.

I looked up a Corolla Hybrid. It was about $26,000 (ignoring markups). $26,000 / $4.00 a gallon is 6,500 gallons. Even at 13 miles per gallon, that is 84,500 miles in my truck. I drive about 15,000 miles a year, so that is over 5.5 years of additional driving. I would not buy the Corolla just because gas was high. If I needed a third car...maybe.

i agree..... I was browsing and found a 2011 Lexus ES350 for a tad under $9K, but honestly, reason to get that was more the "want" than to save gas. I mean, if I had a commuter car, would the truck sit unmoved for months on end? Hell no, it would be driven at least once a week if not more, to prevent it from going bad, then I don't really understand the reasoning behind getting another commuter car, unless it is a car that you enjoy driving then I think that's a win-win.
I will admit that I have more speeding tickets than I care to admit, so maybe driving a little more reasonably on the Tundra would also help save on gas.
Now, wife said something about that road trip from Houston to San Diego...... (need to hide)

I used to drive a Prius. I bought this truck with eyes wide open and knew exactly what I was getting into. Driving a lot for work helps with write-offs come tax time. I keep track of every eligible tenth of a mile.

I hate to say it, this post hits a wee bit too close to home. I recently took a career promotion got out the field hence I no longer get a free work vehicle/van. I only commute 30 ish miles to work each way. Careful, sensible driving has crept my mpg up from 9mpg to 13mpg over 5 months.
Its the 4 x month @ $160+ to fill up at the pump is starting to hurt, Tunny was built for fun not commuting.
I'm seriously considering bypassing hybrid and going full EV for a commuter and keeping the Tunny for now. Its paid off and has a few more mods to do before its finished.
$5.59/gal as of this morning in Orange CA has me considering it. $7/gal will kinda force me to do it.

Guess it’s time to get a horse. Oh wait, wheat and hay is about to be as much as a gallon of gas.

My advice, think long and hard about it, and do a lot of math. How much is that second car going to cost? Insurance, maintenance, and fuel (whether electric or gas). You said you were going to keep the Tundra. Is the total cost of the second car per month going to be less than gas for the Tundra? At 60 miles per day your break even might come sooner than most, but when will it come - 3 years, 6 years, 9 years?

Been there, done that. In my case, I wound up spending way more jacking around with vehicles than I would have by just paying for the extra gas.

Well, now that gas has spiked over $3.50 a gallon here, I have to say I am happy I traded off the Tundra in November...when gas was about $2.40. I did not trade it because of the MPG, but again, now I am glad I did. I am pretty conservative by nature, plus I like to drive to places for no reason, like a 55 mile round trip to a Bass Pro Shop, or 50 miles just to check out offerings at a different Academy Sports. I know if i still had the Tundra, I would not be doing that anym
And don't forget about insurance, registration, etc.

Even if gas hits $10/gal, what doesn't it really matter? We can't change what is happening and we all need the fuel. Besides, the pain will be felt in any vehicle we drive, just more of a sting in the Tundra. haha

Over $4/ gallon in middle Tn for premium; supercharger needs it.
I get about 13 mpg in the winter: 300 miles until fill up.

I’m thankful that I have a Chevy work truck that gets about 15 mpg & 400 miles until fill up. Otherwise, my tundra would be impractical.

    Lol
    Nothing like yours I’m sure.

A few dustings of snow. Once in awhile enough to go sledding for a few days.
Coldest days (not yearly) hover near 0; cold enough to freeze my well for a few days. Normally coldest nights are in the teens. Some freezing rain (Southern ice storms) once in awhile that shuts down highways, snaps power lines, etc.

I quite honestly don’t need a full sized truck so it certainly makes downsizing more attractive.

I’d love to find a real (not Tesla van), affordable truck that actually got good mpg.

Colorado bison, with the Diesel engine seems ok. It’s an expensive small truck though.

At some gas price point, full size trucks, other than for those that need them for work and recreation, will start showing up on dealer lots. If enough inventory builds (if) this should lower the crazy prices that used are going for right now due to lack of supply. Maybe also dent new truck sales, but there is not much inventory right now for new so that will probably take longer.(just my opinion).

I get can thousands above what I paid for my 2018 incl. taxes from a dealer yesterday, after almost 3+ years of ownership. Those days I think are numbered if demand for full size shrinks due to people that don't really need them start trading them in. I need my truck and my potential scenario involved a high trade in value, on a new truck at MSRP and savings of 13% Ontario sales tax.

I'm lucky in WFH now but I still have to go to the plant from time to time to do dumb stuff. I've been running 90 non-ethanol and the mileage looks good but fuely doesn't agree. Paid over $4. yesterday with intention of leaving it parked this week.

If you are concerned about gas prices on your truck you are driving for all the wrong reasons. My 2 cents.

Not necessarily. Fuel prices have increased over the year or so
