He was searching for a while and finally saw one pop up for what he was looking for. He’s the prior CEO of Toytec, so he does have a lot of hookups…just not in that industry.

3 mi door to door to my office. I'll stop driving this or another tundra when I can't climb up into it anymore.

Due to the amount of salt / brine applied to the roads here, there are some that couldn't pass for Fallujah. Truck isn't necessary, but I like having 8" of rubber on top of my wheels to help absorb the impact. And I use it for some truck stuff. And I like it. And I like the better visibility of being up a little more than most. And it's paid for.

If the price gets high enough, I would just buy a Tesla, but I would keep my Tundra. Not sure what that price point would be.

That's what I tell myself also. I may end up buying an electric in 5 years or so since there is a lot less maintenance involved. Hopefully there will be a bit more better offerings in 5 years.

I dont think gas prices will matter. I have to bring my truck to work I am paid to have a truck. So it doesn't matter how high gas prices will go.

I like my roominess and space so the price of gas is not a factor for me. I've driven cars for 25+ years and now that I've had trucks for the last 5 I won't ever go back.

3 vehicles in our house. the standard operating procedure is the Camry is always first choice unless tundra or sequoia is needed, regardless of gas price. Gets twice the mileage and cheaper to operate in other ways as well.

Also I ride bike to work couple times a week during the nicer months. That saves a couple tanks a year. Good excercise so when gas is ridiculous it's extra motivation, so sucks for wallet but good for my beer gut.

I work from home so it takes me quite awhile to go through a tank when it's not hunting season (lots of 100 mile trips during hunting seasons). We use my wife's Highlander Hybrid for all the around town stuff, which is currently getting 30 MPG and I think in summer should be up into 32-33 range.

Same here. My tundra does most of it's yearly miles in 3 months of hunting season.

You gotta love it! I see you are in Washington State. WA always seemed like a sportsman's paradise to me. The West is incredible. I am in Kansas and mostly chase ducks and whitetails.

Yeah it was a sportsmans paradise but less so each year due to the Seattle side of the state running things... we have serious predator problems for one. I have a lot more to say but don't think it's allowed...haha. let's just say a lot of us are headed to Idaho and in a big hurry.

This last fall season I did 2000 miles probably. 600 to the Cascades for elk camp then a lot of woods day/road hunting with the family. My favorite time of the year!

Paying 3.69 a gal currently here in Northwest Pa. 6 bucks a gal is insane, I thought what we pay here was bad. I will not get rid of my Tundra as long as I can afford it. I love having a Truck and hate driving cars since owning a truck. I don't have a long commute to work so the price of gas isn't enough to make me quit driving it. Takes about 60 bucks to fill it up.

I spend about $100 to fill up every other week so I figure $200/month (or $2,400/year). I commute 35 miles round trip to work Mon-Fri so I try to keep my yearly miles under 10k. When I'm just running around town I use my wife's Sienna hybrid. I just can't justify buying (plus gas and insurance) another car when we have 2 new vehicles. So to answer the question I don't really know how much it would take for me to trade my truck in. I just wish these prices would get under control. I paid $3.39 this morning. I'd happy to just get back under $3.00/gal.

For me, its more about miles driven. I knew this truck would always be a gas hog. My commute is under 12 miles a day. Triple this and I don't know if this would have been a choice for a daily driver.

I am two miles from work from my driveway to where I park and a half a mile of that is on company property. I traded in a 2004 for a 2021 so it's a keeper.

If I couldn't afford gas I would walk or pedal. I imagine by summer there will be free gas subsidies for some.

I have a Tundra Preservation Vehicle (TPV) already so hopefully won't be getting ridding of the Tundra for a very long time. 2005 Camry with 206,000 miles on it. Use it for commuting and keep the Tundra for trips

I fill up at least every other day. It hurts but, customers foot the Bill. Cheapest truck I’ve ever owned maintenance wise. Great for the customer the way I see it. 447 k miles and growing.

I am similar to you. Fill up at least 3 times a week operating my small business. 472K and still going. Fortunately I can recover some of the fuel cost by adjusting customer pricing when possible.

    Short answer: None.

Long answer: It is almost always cheaper to drive what you have than to switch vehicles for the sole purpose of fuel economy. The cost of a new vehicle (I don't buy used because I have shit luck), taxes, plates, etc. is impossible to recoup in fuel savings. I have to have 9+ inches of ground clearance, 4x4/AWD, and the ability to tow a minimum of 3500-5000 lbs. Show me a vehicle that gets way better mileage and meets those minimums.

Math: I average 10-12K miles per year at an overall 15 MPG for the most part. 12K miles divided by 15 MPG = 800 gallons of fuel. Say fuel is $4 per gallon and that's $3200 per year.
Now put me in a vehicle that averages 10 MPG more at 25. 12,000 divided by 25 = 480 gallons, times the $4 per gallon and it's $1920 per year. Total savings of $1280 per year. In a decade that'd be $12,800 and that's a fraction of a new vehicle's cost.

Go ahead and double that gas price to $8 per gallon and it still doesn't work out. Gas prices would have to get so high that economic collapse would be likely and then who the fuck cares?

TLDR: Buying something new to save money is only smart if you don't think about it at all. It's a fool's errand.

    I will add:

keeping you vehicle till it dies is the greenest thing you can do. imagine the energy it takes to make a new car.

I generally go 10 years. hence, the Toyota brand.

It simply won’t happen, I’m really young and quite frankly gas prices are killing me. I choose it over anything else because I know this truck will be more reliable over any other replacement. It’s also my passion so I’ll make it work so will many others. I am considering picking up an old Yota pickup or 4Runner to save some gas since I have a long work commute. I pay 3.50 a gallon so I’m already working towards that! Haha
